Right, that's it, I'm off to get me Spade :-) There has been some sort of precedent. In Dec 2010 Brad Cruickshank received a match penalty for obscene gestures and another for excessive roughness and he had an added match added to both offences as it was stated that as per Elite league tariffs an additional one match penalty was added to both offences. So whether this is still the case or whether this is due to the nature and seriousness of the offence is open to debate It'll depend if the set tariffs are still the same, but even if that's the case it's not a precedent- it's just applying the rules as they're set out. I'm sure that's not what Davie was referring to in any case. A 2 game ban would just be too much IMO if that's still the league tariff. You're allowed 3 abuse of official misconducts before you get a 1 match ban, or 2 stick offences! What's more serious?

It's why I said it was a sort of precedent in as much it had happened before and whether they threw the cigarette packet with those tariffs on it out or not. I do agree that a two match ban would be too harsh as well

Can anyone actually say what the obscene gestures were, I have read loads about them but nothing yet about what they were, surely if it was that bad someone (apart from smith) must have seen them.

All I saw was Matt giving the 'mon then' gesture to the fans. Not saying that was all he did. Just, that`s what I seen.

Happens quite a lot as players are skating over to the penalty box and the fans behind it are welcoming them!

This is where history comes back to bite you up the proverbial, there was NO-ONE any worse than Moray Hanson at making gestures to the crowd as a player especially in Fife and he continued to do so as a referee as well.

If it has been gesturing, and no more, then in the context of society itself, you could argue it's just Matt playing the part of the panto baddie that he does so well. Some fans hurl pretty dreadful abuse at the players (and I'm sure at FIA it's no better, especially near the sin bin), I just wonder how difficult this could become to manage. There isn't a game that goes past without some kind of incident like this.
The rules states it's a ban, so it's a ban, but is this really any worse than any other night, or is it simply that Matt has been the target again?
Can't be that bad what he did, even on Cardiff's live twitter feed, they said what he'd done, followed by, "I'd have him on my team any day", in fact, they were actually looking for Matt to have a little "dance" as the guy hadn't seen him fight in the flesh.
I suspect this is an over reaction to probably almost nothing, although, I didn't see the incident myself.
Wonder if Mr Finnerty will get anything said to him during his next tantrum....Matt has obviously become a target, right from day 1, but when you look at his penalties, and bans, you could argue they're maybe self inflicted, or silly at times, but I don't think we've ever seen him looking to injure a player, or do anything dangerous. There are a lot worse out there, who seem to get off scott free more than they should.
Oh, and as above, Mr Hanson, worth looking back at some of your old videos too, more than a few gestures made in your day....that's why we made a song for you :-)
