The butt end on Dacosta from the bold Hutchy was right in front of Wilson with nobody between them, how 3 officials missed that was unbelievable. The linesmen need to learn what offside is, its embarassing to watch simple mistakes and have they changed the rule about knocking the puck straight out of play from your own defence zone because it used to be that if it went over the players benches it didn't count, i think Flyers actually got a bit of luck on that play.

Sounds like Flyers deserved the win, regardless of the officiating, and we've certainly been on the brunt of things the other way this year.
Another good result, Flyers on track to proving a lot of folks wrong.....watch this space

I thought stars were unlucky with the delay of game penalty as it did seem to go out over the benches, but every other penalties was a Wilson lottery penalty, he sometimes calls and sometimes he doesn't. And he wonders why players get frustrated. Instead of handing out bans willy nilly it's about time Hanson maybe started looking at the root of the frustration, his referees pure incompetence.

Totally agree. Players need to control themselves, but if it's frustrating for fans, just imagine how frustrating it must be when your jobs on the line. There has never, from what I can recall, been anything said by the EIHL about the quality of referees in this league. They made a bit of a fanfare when Moray was appointed, but I suspect, they've not given him any budget to actually make any improvements. So the challenge surely, to the EIHL, and this goes to all member clubs (as there is of course no governing body, over and above the clubs themselves), is take this issue seriously, but some funding aside, and then get some criteria that can be measured to grade the officials on an ongoing basis, and take appropriate steps to improve where needed.

As an FYI - There have also been quite a few players this year making comments about the standard of officiating via social media platforms, but I can't recall the EIHL dishing out any bans this season, compared to quite a few last year. Is this the league admitting they have a problem by not actually punishing those who speak out?

Think they dished out fines for breaching social media rules last season.

Think they dished out fines for breaching social media rules last season. Sorry yeh, it was fines, that's what I meant. Haven't seen any this season yet, at least I don't think I have?

The club owners will never do anything when they are still get paying punters coming in through the doors. Do they care if the referees are awful, and can incite bad behaviour on and off the ice. Is it any wonder few players return, the standard is so inconsistent and so bad that they are banging their heads against a brick wall. Flowing hockey just doesn't happen, and we don't pay our money to see the referees antics we pay to hockey being played with referees that know the rules of the game and are capable of keeping up with the play.
Perhaps we need to start an inter club petition to the Elite League about the standard of officiating and how it is bringing the game into disrepute and affecting the livelihoods of the players and the enjoyment of the fans.
Moray Hanson was introduced with great fanfare as the Referee Supremo, but what has he actually achieved, embarrassing everyone by endorsing bad refereeing and not sorting anything out. As I have said before if you had good consistent refereeing you would get better hockey.
Another sad feature is that some of the players who have stayed, having passed their best are resorting to goon tactics in the knowledge that most of the time they will get away with it, good refereeing would nip that in the bud and clean up the game for everyone.
If you care about hockey, no matter which team you support, let's get together and try and get this sorted.

Its easy to sit in a room and review video footage and dish out bans. Its another thing to have a vision and implement real changes.

My view from section G was that the puck went out over the benches... but it did look to be "above glass height" when it went out into the stands. I'm guessing that is why the call was made.

That was my take on it - It was deliberately shot out - which is a penalty - rather than directly over unintentionally. Just about took Todds head off - if he had jumped up!
