That was painful to watch last night, especially the third period.
We started off fairly well, on the front foot, taking the game to Hull and creating a few chances but cruciallly Hull got the first goal and that gave them the momentum.
For the rest of the night anything we tried just didn't work, passes were going astray or into Hull players skates, the little touches to a flying winger didn't come off and we became nervous and tried too hard and the harder we tried the more stuff didn't happen and that lead to the frustration and indiscipline in the third period.
We also relied a lot on the Roehl, Reber, Lukacevic line a lot last night and gave them a lot of ice time to try and get something going for us but it was one of those nights when we never got going and were never relaxed.
We had to work really hard twice to tie the game only for us to loose concentration and immediately give the lead back to Hull and you knew with the way we lost the third goal that it was never going to be our night.
Dutes said in his interview that players didn't show up and he was absolutley right, too many in white just didn't play last night
The Nickerson incident happened after he served his penalty for hooking in th 46th min. He was getting goaded by Hull fans when he was in the penalty box and squirted water at them, the announcer then announced his name twice as Nickers on and Matt started having words with him over this and then Cloutier scored on the powerplay and celebrated in front of Nickerson so by this time he was wound up like nothing else on earth and then when he got out of the penalty box Smith and DaCosta were already involved and he just jumped in.
I still don't know what he got his match penalty for as it wasn't announced, nor do I know what Fulton got his misconduct for in the last minute as that also wasn't announced but Nickersons penalty also came with a 5 min powerplay for Hull, there isn't a penalty that gives a 5+Match is there?
To give Hull 5 powerplay goals is unaccptable so either Dutes didn't get a message across about being disciplined or the team didn't listen whichever it was surely has to come down to the coaching
