As things stand in Gardiner Conference
Flyers 30 Games played 39 points two games left away to Caps and Storm 43 points max if we win both games
Clan 26 games played 33 points 6 games left, two away to Dundee and Home and Away to Caps and Storm 45 points max if they win all six games.
Stars 27 games played 33 points 5 games left to Play max 43 points if they win all 5 games their two games against Clan are huge.
Its too early to say who will win the Conference but Flyers have points in the bag and we are still in control of our own destiny if we win both our remaining games but Storm are in form right now and will be a tall order to win down at the shelter. If Clan slip up tonight its going to be intresting

It was a good game Stirling, its a real pity you missed it. In the first period we weathered what little Clan could throw at us and probably scored a bit against the run of play. In the second period Clan did virtually nothing, Flyers got two goals, dominated the period playing little above training session level. The third period started with a Clan goal early on which was immediately countered by a strike from the Flyers, after that Flyers again dominated and had countless chances to score. It was a great result from what was not such a great Flyers performance, we can play a lot better than that. Braehead were woeful, I though that they would win the league 6 weeks or so ago, not anymore, worst Clan team I've seen. To see their fans leave in their droves after the 5th goal went in was just sweet, accompanied by chants of we can see you sneaking out, cheerio, cheerio, cheerio and is this a fire drill. Magic! You're hard to please Joe!- after the first 10-12 minutes Flyers were absolutely terrific. I don't know if it was possible to be more in control of an away game against one of the top teams to be honest. No doubt David Brown set the table, because he was amazing in that first period, but once we went ahead we were just too good for them. All 6 of our d-men were disciplined and effective (in Delahey's case- perfect) and we looked dangerous when we broke. Got to mention Kyle Horne again too- delighted for a great Flyers player to be back playing the way he is. Holt pulled off some great saves as well so the scoreline in no way flattered Flyers. Fans were different class- we couldn't get tickets for the Flyers section so (like many others) were sat with the Clan fans and it was great to watch and listen to the chants. "Is this a fire drill?" was the highlight. Flyers fans seem to get a bad press at times but I've never seen a clear out like that at FIA with 4 minutes left or heard that level of booing. The Clan fans have spent their existence telling everyone how amazing they are- didn't look that way tonight. It's going to be absolute class if we win this Conference and I don't see why not now. That`s what happens when you have a west coast fitbaw mentality that they 'should' be winning everything.

Delahey's heads up pass for the fifth goal was sublime

I thought we looked really nervous with our lay in that first 10 minutes. Yes Clan came out all guns blazing and trying to intimidate us and really looked up for it but we just couldn't string passes together and had real trouble getting the puck out of our zone. Even after going ahead I thought we didn't really settle down and we had to rely on Brown to keep us tied at 0-0 and then with the single goal lead. After first period though it was all us and Clan looked totally done and clueless as how to get out of the slump they are in. Thankfully we learnt from our last visit not to let Clan into the game before the end of the second only to do it 19 seconds into the third so Caigs breakaway goal to restore the three goal advantage shortly afterwards was vital, and what a block by Fox to set it up. Nice to hear the self proclaimed best fans in the league giving their team the bird at the end of the second and third. Conference isn't in our hands but the pressure is certainly on Clan or Stars to win probably all of their remaining games. How many people will be looking to go to Manchester on March 6th now if it looks like we can win it there Oh yeah and special mention to David Brown who went 103 mins 59 seconds between goals We will only be able to win the Conference on Mar 6 if Stars and Clan drop points before then and we win our game at Murrayfield. Lets hope we do qne it would be brilliant if he could welcome back Dutes and his men as the team who proved so many of their own fans wrong.

Aye and then perhaps Dutes could explain at the same time why it took the bulk of the season to get a run going to put them in that position bearing in mind that mostly all results have went Flyers way the last few weeks with Manchester being the banana skin for the other contenders lately.

Are you saying if Flyers won the Conference the first thing you'd do is ask Todd to explain why we didnt win it more easily? Everyone all over the UK thought Clan would romp this Conference- but we've beaten them 6 times out of 8. If Flyers do win it it's because over the full season we've been the best team. I think we deserve it now- even at the start when the team was playing really not too great we were still able to grind out results against our Gardiner rivals. It wasnt pretty but they did. Now we're actually brushing teams aside. I'd rather be poor at the start and finish strong than do what Stars , Caps and Clan are doing.

It's a forum, that's where debates and opinions are aired not everybody has the same thoughts, mine are a balance on the subject so my point is ....How come the same bunch of players are now turning on the style we all thought they were capable of from the start perhaps had we seen that all season everybody would have sung even Todd's praises.

It's no coincidence that the recent up turn in form has coincided with Sacchetti being brought in. He has made such a difference to our forward lines which has also allowed our D to concentrate on what they should be doing.
He would be at the tip of my list of players for next year.

They did make a fairly significant change getting Sachetti in so you can't say they didn't do anything to address the form they were in early on. Maybe it was 'the same bunch of players' that were letting Todd and Danny down early on? We might also just need to accept that sometimes it takes a while for a brand new team to settle? It didn't look like the team could perform like they did last Saturday a few months ago- surely that means Todd's done something that proves he can coach?

I'll be the 1st to eat my words, I had given up all hope of even challenging for the conference after the defeat by dundee at FIA, Signing of Nico and the almighty fall of the Clan have major factors, credit where credit is due to dutes & danny for signing Nico
I just hope we can win our last 2 conference games and hopefully that should be enough
Pray we don't trip ourselves up before the finish line

We always seem to do better in the second half of the season. Maybe its the players gearing themselves up for a play-off run?
