G, I hear what your saying but the crowds they're getting at both Edinburgh and Aberdeen would disagree with you. The SNL this year has mostly been lots of close games with few blow outs. Ideally I'd like to see a return to 3 imports as I still think those days were the most entertaining.

I'd rather see it go the other way. The elite league is stale and boring, playing the same clubs 6 times a year. Massive turnover of players every year, playing with no care for the badge on the front, it's just a job. It lacks passion. I think a restructure of UK ice hockey, a proper pyrimid. Add in Edinburgh, whitley bay, solway and a couple more southern teams, make a 16 team league playing 3 teams a year, 45 game season with promotion and relegation as well. 10 import limit with a salary cap. Hockey would be a lot more entertaining imo, forces brits to be given ice time which then helps team GB as well. Agree. Promotion/relegation would be an excellent addition.

Edinburgh is resurgent in recent years as the locals have no alternative and the team are winning. A lot are pretty fair-weather fans who would leave if the team isn’t winning week in week out. And Aberdeen only holds 1,000 max. Ayrand Kilmarnock are hilariously bad.

I do get your point tho. And I would really love to see it be possible for entertaining high level, competitive hockey including lots of brits. But I just don’t see that happening. British ice hockey is what it is.

Edinburgh hit over 2200 on hogmanay against the worst team in the league. However, both teams are the only hockey team in their city. If you look at comets/tigers/kestrels/pirates attendances (where people have a choice to go to elite league) compared to lynx and caps, it's not even close. Each of those teams is probably only getting 4/500 fans to a game depending on if the elite teams are playing down south or just up the road.

Slightly off thread, but someone with better knowledge and brains than me, Belfasts roster seems to absolutely vast how have they got so many players and still in the squad rules.

Good question. I really don’t know the specific rules. But did find this ——— The number of players on a gameday roster will remain at 20, comprised of 18 skaters and two netminders. A maximum of 15 non-homegrown players (imports) will be permitted on each team’s game day roster in the 2023/24 season. There is no change to the overall roster size for the season, which remains at 29 players including two-way players, but excluding injured reserve cover. The total number of non-homegrown players a team may sign in one season (excluding injured reserve cover) remains at 20. ————— Source www.eliteleague.co.uk/article/3155-roster-regulations-confirmed-for-2023-24
