Rather have a winning team, than a better to watch team sitting near the bottom not looking at it with blue white and gold tinted glasses but that’s a totally unfair representation of the squad and season

Rather have a winning team, than a better to watch team sitting near the bottom Bar the horrendous injuries including to Owen, players leaving also causing shortages, and our lack of depth, we have probably been a mid table team consistently since Jan so the current position is not a true indicator of this teams ability in this league. I also don't see the pile on against Emmerdahl I think he has his off moments as alot of this team does, but just as when Owen was apparently terrible, you'll probably find he is not responsible for hardly any goals against.

The hockey has been night and day compared to the last few years, so much more enjoyable to watch, dump and chase has gone.
In the form table, we sit 5th over the last 30 games. Have away wins in Cardiff, Belfast, Nottigham, Glasgow, Coventry and Guildford. Pretty sure we've beaten everyone in the league bar Dundee, although we did beat them in the CC.
I'd say barring injuries, a horrific schedule, and the coach/players getting up to speed with the league, then we'd already have qualified for the playoffs.

I thought that was a really good performance from Fife. You know its been a good game when half a dozen guys could of been given man of the match. After the first 3 minutes flyers found there feet and as soon as teemu tied it up we looked the better team. Second period was a bit chippy with a lot of stickwork. The spear on Osterberg looked nasty. Fight went out of Guildford in the third and fife saw the game out easily. One of our better performances out of a lot of good performances.
As usual though this board is dominated by negativity even after a win like that. I really dont understand the beef with emmer. He isnt flashy but he's a solid d man who does a good job. Some folk are never happy though eh.

The true indication surely is current form, exciting play to watch, and better crowds highlighting this. I think at Fife unfortunately there's always going to be room for improvement and so people will always have something, rightly at times, to complain about wondering what could be if these were improved. But hopefully the owners have seen if they speculate a bit then the crowds will come back, give Coolen another season, and if he brings in defensive talent the way he has with forwards then I think we will see a mid table team next season. And this optimism is regardless now if they make play offs or not.

Take this in the way it’s intended. As a genuine question. What good has emmers loyalty been for the fife flyers? I am asking as I really want to understand the other side of this debate. If I asked that about Owen’s loyalty it’s easy. His performances, his stats, his accolades, his endless MoM, passion for the club, his league wide reputation as one of the best netminders year in and year out, his unquestionable position as a fan favourite. Look around any given night and see loads of #50 shirts on the back of fans. (Note: the stats wasn’t a dig, I had been looking up stats of captains around the league out of my own curiosity so already knew his stat count. Which I got wrong. That was goal number 5 for him and point 13.) G,I get what you’re saying here Last night he popped up with a good goal when we needed it The game tying goal against the Giants that we went on to win in OT last Sunday Emmer put the pass in He can get caught out at times but overall when you look around the league he’s a solid reliable d man and when he was out injured we missed him and the results reflected that. I don’t think he deserves any criticism for last nights win The results without him: Played 4 Won 1 (v steelers) Lost 1 (v steelers) Lost in OT 2. ( flames and blaze) Pretty much the average for the season, so not agreeing with you on that bud. Especially the win against runaway leaders Sheffield I’ll leave it. I’ve made me views clear, not my captain. Not a top 4 d man. No one is really able to say much more than he’s steady. Fine. Also - it is ok to have opinions here you know folks. Personal attacks on players aren’t welcome. But critical analysis of players is a normal thing to do on a fans forum. Discussions and debates. Loads of you only seem to appear to roll out the old “it’s so negative on here” while still never contributing in any way to the content.

My take on Emmerdahl is he can be relied upon to play heavy minutes every night, prior to his injury was sitting at between 26 and 32 minutes every game which isn’t the norm lets be honest. I think he’s actually a pretty good skater at this level, I dont remember seeing him being burnt on the outside many times in his career in Fife, his long reach probably helps him. I think he’s really strong in battles along the wall and can pin guys well and utilise his size to his advantage. Can mix it up too and play heavy when he needs to but i think that’s when mistakes start to creep into his game when he tries to pinch on hits but doesnt do it anywhere near what someone like Pouteau does and he seems to be a fan favourite for whatever reason. My opinion on his weaknesses are probably his concentration on the breakout sometimes but no sure if that comes down to tiredness by being overplayed, and i also think his shooting from the point leaves a bit to be desired. If he was the perfect player he wouldn’t be playing in Fife, can pull up holes in every one of the players in this roster but theyre the reasons why theyre at this level.
Overall for me Emmerdahl nothing flashy but solid and dependable with a great engine on him, something that Fife rely on with being so short benched every game. I think in one of the avftb podcasts Mark Cooper said that Emmerdahl was fifes best player so perhaps his colleagues rate him pretty well too.

Would you have him back as captain next year if available? Only counter point is I think your estimate for the TOI is a a bit inflated. For sure one or two of games saw 30 mins+ but mostly his minutes were in the sub 24 range. His average this season is 21.46

Was discussing Emmerdale earlier today with somebody who knows him very well and has done since he came here. I’m reliably informed that he came back from his groin injury strongly against doctors order to help the team out when they were struggling for defensive numbers and that he continues to play through pain with his groin. Rightly or wrongly that attitude should be commended and may well explain why he’s putting in less minutes and perhaps not skating as strongly.

If that is true (not calling you a liar bud) then that’s something to respect and would explain the drop in ice time.

If true, thats bad . the club should not ice the player if doctor said he should not play. Dont put the club in a good light,

I've just watched the highlights from last night, couple of nice goals and a very good result again against a team above us in the league. This team has been far better than anything we've been served up over the past few seasons, not just by a little bit but by a country mile. Our current position is testament to the horrific schedule and injuries/lack of depth over the christmas period. I'd love to hang on to the likes of Laj and Osterberg next year but unfortunately we may well see the money doing the talking, and who can blame them.
On the negative, jeez who on earth films the webcast, I swear the camera spends more time on empty ice than the play or the puck. I appreciate the angle makes it hard to focus on everything at once, but it just means it needs to move more. Tragic. The commentary, well that's been discussed to death. I seem to remember someone else spending a game or two a few years back helping out, whoever it was can we PLEASE find their number and at least ask the question?
