There is a debate to be had about Nickerson, personally I love him, think he's a top player and plays his role almost perfectly and has a huge impact, but he's another 1 who lets face it, is in poor shape for a professional athlete and his give away you're talking about and similar others are probably a result of a lack of fitness. He would have been the first name I had back after last season but surely he should have been told to come back fitter.

It would be helpful if you could name other enforcers that were also D men and compare the points they bring to their team? The guys you mention are all forwards, though I'll accept Emmersson has played some games on D this year. Are you not going to give Nickerson credit for the defensive work he does? He's our one guy that's capable of clearing the crease and also has a great pass from the back. Todd's right about one thing, we're a far better and more confident team when Matt's in the line-up. if you watch the game against Edinburgh you might see matts blatant give away resulted in an instant goal.and todd did say "we are a better team with matt on thr ice " I think he meant an import up as opposed to an import siting in the fife lounge signing autographs . Im not convinced by the "great pass from the back " that your talking about and for the record I am not looking to be punished by a ban from here for my disagreement with "top brass" I am however stating facts that are in your face on youtube and readily available for "fans" of matt and "nonfans" alike Who's disputing he coughed up a goal on Saturday? It'll not be the last one either, but it doesn't make him a bad player. You see it happen every week, even at the highest level. I'm happy with my judgement that the guys got a good pass out from the back, if you don't agree that's fine with me. For the record, the "top brass" only issue warnings when you break the forum rules, but you had that explained to you the last time.

And im not doing that now .Nickerson is losing his glitter im my opinion Todd doesn't like him thats no secret hes a fans favourite ill give you that dirkster and he puts or put bums on second hand seats but have a close look at his "smart play" his line clearances and his power play presence its not existent theese days .fitness and cockyness has had its way with big nicker

Get a sniper in there that can pick up the tips and rebounds. He's a big guy that plays half his games on a massive ice pad, he's going to get turned every so often; you just have to play him with a mobile guy. I'll disagree again though, I think he still does a good job for us around the crease and along the boards. Did you hear Danny on the radio during the week? Said that If he's back next season we'd have a greater physical presence next season. There's got to be a good chance that'll include Matt.

I think Matt has been great this season..he is a very skillful D man and his enforcing duties an added bonus..we could have done with a tough forward who could throw his weight around to ..ease the burden..a Salters..J Pitton type..Matts points are good too..I think weve seen a bit of a tough time defensively as Tommys levels dropped and Kyles out injured.

Simple answer to this, Matt puts bums on seats! He's not has a solid a season as last year, but none of the team has either. Would I have him back next year....100% yes. We needed, and should have brought in a 2nd enforcer type player too, too much of it falls on Matt's shoulders, and when he doesn't play, there is without doubt teams that take full advantage of that.
One thing I think we should be a wee bit cautious about is playing the "fear the beard" music every time Matt looks "interested" in something, it simply draws the referees attention to the fact Matt is in the middle and he gets a penalty by default. Fair enough playing it when he is fighting, or heading to the sin bin etc, but don't make the ref's job easy for him. He already stands out with his size, and if the music plays, you could argue refs think "well he's obviously done something, better bin him"

A couple of refs are intimidated by Matt, they are obviously scared world war 3 kicks off when he is involved so that makes him an easy target, in my opinion if he just walked the walk and fought when he had to there would be no problem, its all the stupid stuff (pretty minor actually) that gets him the bans. Matt is a very good player and strong in his own end, he passes very well(apart from that 1 at Edinburgh)and reads the game very well too, needs to up the fitness a wee bit and should be one of the first on the list for next season.

Pretty much spot on, Matt is one of our best on the PK his size and ability to protect his teammates make him for me one of our key resigings. He does need more help though, we have to sign up at least one other guy who can do the same job as Matt. A forward as loads of people have mentioned would be good (Salters, Colt King etc).
