Here you go :-)
Basic Rules:
Welcome to the Flyers prediction competition.
For this season, you will be asked to predict a random selection of 8 results over each match weekend (this will always include all Fife matches taking place on Saturday’s and Sunday’s). Points will be awarded to each participant for their predictions, and the cumulative scores will be published every Monday.
The following week’s matches will be listed on the Forum for your predictions on the Monday, with predictions being accepted until Midday on the Saturday of the matches.
NB: Please note, it may not always be Elite League games you are asked to predict, there may be occasions when EPL games are also used if there are insufficient games in the EIHL to make up a total of 8 predictions.
What do you need to do now?
The competition is now open. All you need to do at this stage is register your interest via the open thread on the Forum, and provide your chosen team name that I will use in the league table publications. As an example, my team name this year will be “Rising from the Ashes”. You do not need to submit any predictions at the moment, simply just acknowledge you are taking part, and provide the team name of your choice.
Please note there is no actual closing date to enter the competition, and forum members can enter at any point during the season by simply letting me know they wish to take part. Predictions will then be permitted, providing of course, they are submitted by midday on the Saturday.
Who can take part?
The only stipulation is that you must be a member of the Forum to enter. All members can take part in the competition.
Submitting your prediction:
It is your responsibility for submitting your prediction via the weekly thread on the Forum. The first post in the thread will detail all those matches you are being asked to predict, and you simply just need to respond with your predicted score lines.
If your results are submitted after the midday deadline, but before face off of any of the matches, these predictions may be considered. However, this will only be if a majority of participating teams agree to their inclusion. This will be done in the form of a vote on the forum, and the majority decision will be accepted.
NB: Please note, each member can only enter 1 set of predicted results for each week. Multiple entries are not permitted.
What is deemed as the Final Score?
The actual published result will be used. I.e. if overtime and penalty shots have been necessary, these will be taken into consideration and used.
How are the scores calculated?
You will be asked to predict 8 individual matches each week, and I have taken 1 fictional prediction below to show how points could be awarded. Essentially, 3 points are at stake for correctly predicting the winning team (regardless of score), 2 points for predicting how many goals the home team will score, and 2 points for predicting how many goals the away team will score. Therefore, if you predict the result completely, you could net 7 points for each prediction you make. The examples below will hopefully make this clear, and shows how points will be awarded against your prediction versus the actual score.
Example:
Match 1: Fife v Sheffield
Your Prediction: Fife 5 Sheffield 3
Actual Score: Fife 4 Sheffield 3
For the scenario above, you would have received 5 points. 3 points for predicting a Fife win, and 2 for predicting Sheffield to score 3 goals.
Looking at a selection of other potential predictions below, this shows example points you could have received.
Prediction: Fife 5 Sheffield 3 - 5 Points
Prediction: Fife 4 Sheffield 3 - 7 Points
Prediction: Fife 4 Sheffield 2 - 5 Points
Prediction: Fife 6 Sheffield 2 - 3 Points
Prediction: Fife 5 Sheffield 5 - 0 Points
Prediction: Fife 4 Sheffield 4 - 2 Points
Prediction: Fife 4 Sheffield 5 - 2 Points
Prediction: Fife 2 Sheffield 3 - 0 Points
Manager of the Month:
The highest scoring team in any calendar month (i.e. results predicted in September or October etc), will receive 25 additional bonus points at the end of that month.
A separate table will be published at the end of each month showing the points earned specifically in that month alone.
If you need help:
If you need any help, either in understanding the rules clearer, or have any questions, please just drop me a PM at any time.
