Every team in Britain would love to have a song like Geordie Munro with which to open proceedings on a hockey night. What do we do? We dump it from our pre-game build-up and instead of having the full version played we have a snatch of it two or three times during the game.
Not good enough. And neither is the constant "Make Some Noise" pleas from the announcers box.
Our current team is good enough to compete with anyone if a hard man personality is signed NOW. Big Matt was our greatest asset for the last couple of seasons and we let him go, costing us 200-300 fans every week. Bring in an enforcer and watch the reaction from the fans!
And bring back Geordie.

I agree with all off the above.
I remember back in the BNL it used to get belted out at the start of the game, but this was mainly fans signing in section G. Can’t remember if it was played on the tannoy.
Then it was sung towards the end of the game followed by carnival de Paris. Good times. Such a shame what’s happened to the atmosphere since this guy got the Job. However, I can understand that his hands are tied as the speakers play at different volumes throughout the rink.
I’ve not been to the hockey for a couple of months now and though this is mainly due to the on Ice product the off-ice product is equally dire. If the truth was told if it wasn’t for Matt last season, that season wouldn’t of been much different to this in terms of excitement.
Todd is the cause of all this. If the Flyers had an exciting winning team on the ice no one would really care about the DJ and his faults.

Possibly agree that they could play a better version of Geordie Munro (jazzed up/electric guitar?) at the start but it's an absolutely awful tune for playing during breaks in play like we did ad nauseum last season.
The problem though is that the 'build up' to games is a woefully co-ordinated mess anyway so would it really matter?
The Geordie Munro mascot was tacky and cheap. Never seen a sporting mascot get less reaction from a crowd. What was with him being an old man with a Santa head? That eagle thing they have now is as bad.
Teams with traditions need to captitalise on that by keeping them but also exploiting them commercially. We've gone from being stuck in the dark ages (but having some charm and pride) to a mish mash of tacky gimmicks that just never quite work. There's either no thought goes into it or the one's with the thoughts are not up to it. The club is losing it's identity because nobody is in tune with the fans. It's a shame because in some ways we're obviously growing.
The other thing that people have to bear in mind is that to Flyers fans, unlike others- what happens on the ice is far and away what makes or breaks the 'match night experience'...

Listening to the purple army podcast this week they have a good interview with Neil Russell from Manchester Storm, he speaks about the match night experience and what is needed. It is something that has to cover off first timers and the hockey purists alike.
It is hard to please everybody, Flyers though as Finchy points out appear to have lost their own identity and seem stuck between doing what others do just because or having there own way. The biggest problem I see is that they come across as reluctant to change things when its clearly not working (both on and off the ice).
I agree with your last point Finchy, Fife possible more than other teams have a crowd who are driven by what happens on the ice and having the DJ attempting to turn us into performing seals (aka Sheffield) just gets folks backs up.
This team seriously needs to excite/entertain the fans way more than it is, the match night is fast becoming one of the worst in the league. Does the board above the main door still say "A GREAT NIGHT OUT" because that need changed to "YOU WOULD BE BETTER WATCHING X-FACTOR".

And bring back Geordie. while I agree with what your saying, only 30 people have signed the petition so maybe not such a commonly held view as i and others thought, at least not enough to sign up !!

in terms of having or losing our identity, i agree we're out there in the mid-atlantic with no sail and no rudder, being pushed around by the tide of the latest new whim and by trying to cater for everyones wants, we actually don't satisfy anybody. surely the club defines it's identity and you either buy into it as great thing or you don't. Provide a clear image of what we are, who we are, what we stand for and the paying public will decide if it's still for them, the fans then decide the direction of the off-ice experience whilst the club defines the on-ice product, get it sorted before the crowds drop to an embarrassingly low level

Hasn't exactly been a success for entertainment purposes. If we were winning but still bored at least the wins would help but were not winning we are in 9th place. We have won 4 out of the last 15 games. Skillful play, big hits and fights that's what fans want. That's what provides fans the chance to get going. The crowds loved it when Matt came on the ice and intimidated or fought one of our rivals. Fitzgerald first game at FIA last season the place was buzzing then. Has it even come close to that this year, Blaze 6-0 win caps 8-3 win maybe. I am not saying Matt or a similar enforcer is the answer to everything but it sure would help. We beat the Clan 2-0 and it was just boring as hell. Fans are staying away because the games are boring, the team are playing poorly, the match night experience is poor at best. £16 to be bored no wonder folk are staying at home.

Gritty team = hard working, difficult to beat but not the most entertaining brand of hockey I think my last game was the 2-0 Clan game, good win but flat afterwards, not elated. The whole matchnight experience for me is tragic, the life has been sucked out of the building and coached (i think) out of the team. Getting my moneys worth out of NHL Gamecentre this year

Geordie Munro was a joke from day one, the Bird is even worse it's intro is one of the best songs from The Blues Brothers and he / she /it obviously doesn't know the words to it, the DJ actually almost kills my night out altogether The coaching is dire, the position being no better than year 1 currently second bottom with the team below having games in hand, in essence the whole picture is bleak and would only benefit from a clear out, jeez i've even seen previously happy clappers posts being wiped on the Flyers pages, would there even be changes if the team hit the bottom rung, probably not as there doesn't appear to be any panic from the owners and its already went way too far.

Nailed it in there, there's massive changes needed to turn this season around, 3/4 players, coach and that stupid DJ, none of which will happen, there is so much wrong with the club it's almost beyond repair, don't want to sound to dramatic but I really fear for flyers existence as a professional club.

I'd like to stick up for Geordie and the bird thing.... Oh no I can't because they are both tragic, cringe worthy, cheap looking and embarrassing. Bit like our imports really!
