Matts first game for Flyers when he attacked the now Cardiff coach Andrew Lord set the bar, as far as ref's went you could see they were physically worried about his presence on the ice and what could kick off around him, he was a marked man and harshly dealt with at times in my opinion. Do they need a tough guy at Fife .......you bet, as long as other teams have them then so do you or you see what has happened at KIA many times in the past where the team have been bullied, embarrassed and lost games in their own building, it's time Todd the pacifist realised that, recent happenings may then have been only .....what if's.
It's no coincidence that the teams at the top of the Elite League year on year have one or two known heavy weights who can play the game as well, even The Great One Wayne Gretzky openly admitted that he would never have been the player he was in the NHL if not for the likes of Marty McSorley watching his back.

I agree with all the comments about having heavyweights in the team. The big draw back is Fife "innit"" to "winnit" or only "innit". If the latter we have a coach to meet the lower aspirations.

It shouldn't matter if you are in it to win it or not the point of the matter is every other team has at least a couple off policemen on there team and that is why Matt had the target on his back because teams knew get rid of him and we were fair game

I'm sorry, the point isn't that every other team has, we don't, and our management are obviously happy with the coaches pacifist style.

Heard there are three guys from Heathery wood prepared to sign until the end of the season. Neither of them have ever skated but reckon they could do the job

Ronnie we do have guys who can drop the gloves but it seems when they come to us they aren't allowed to play there normal game so if that is the case why do we sign them gauthier Bulmer pinkston schaber come to mind stoflet is another. The fans deserve to see the imports play at there best and there normal game not some manufactured game they aren't familiar with

I remember when Matt signed there was an element of the fan base up in arms stating that they weren’t happy as this wasn’t the Fife Way and that they wouldn’t return. I recon there was an average of 500 extra bums on seats during that season. The Flyers were recently asking how they could attract more fans as it is a gate based Club. I may be completely wrong but didn’t they already have the answer.

Ye they did the ideal policeman is one who can put up points and drop the gloves when necessary Leigh salters was perfect for this league put up points and looked after the star players on his team. Fans are up in arms about byers for the storm using words like goon but the guy has racked up 111 points in 90 odd guys since he arrived in this league that imo isn't to shabby a return for a guy mainly known for dropping the gloves

I think that joking aside there is a serious point to how this thread is going. No question dops have got things wrong. The point being made is that there is no intimidation factor to the flyers and there needs to be or things like this happen and folk get injuries. I maintain you still need a big skilful player that is used to protect when called on and its down to the coach to maintain the correct balance and control of that player..... pretty much what Pete Russell has done with Fitzy this session.

I can honestly say that as the league stands today I would have 2 guys in my line up that would be a deterrent to opposing teams for two reasons. 1. Protect their team mates 2. Bums on seats in the stand. Hockey when played for monetary sums is SHOWTIME in my book, nobody says those guys need to fight every week in most cases they cancel themselves out with the opposing equivalent anyway so everybody is happy but you have sold more merchandise and more seats ....big Matt proved that beyond a doubt ......jeez he was that popular at the skate with the Flyers he couldn't get past the gate ...... I rest my case.

Ronnie in your opinion if Matt had played against the storm on Sunday would we have had the debacle at the end of the game

Where to go from here? It appears the Flyers lack a competitive edge in submitting cases to DOPS. Manchester look to have played this far better.
Manchester were essentially given a final warning earlier in the season and may have the league over a barrel. Punish us too harshly and we are off? The Flyers can't play that card. How hard did the league really fight for an Edinburgh team? Are we a team too far away and one that Hull can replace?
The Flyers do themselves no favours here. The Old Course can't really compete with purpose built and heavily financed courses but it gets the Open every 5 years. Why - because it is the home of golf and it pulls in fans from everywhere. We are by far the oldest club and rink in the league. Kirkcaldy is hockey town but you wouldn't know it. It should be a pilgrimage for hockey fans. Instead social media has it as the one away trip to be avoided.
The stewarding is awful. Only intent with arguing with kids who haven't brought ID with them. Not bringing stuff they need is exactly what bairns do! Where are the stewards where they are really needed?
Market the club as a founding father of hockey in the UK and the very reason the league exists. Then the league needs us as much as they need representation in one of England's biggest cities. Remember we were to have a series of events marking the 80th year?
Ask for fans to become ambassadors to make the experience of away fans better. Brief stewards properly on how to assist fans, the potential problem areas and not to view the very people handing over money as just there to cheat the club out of money!
But also look at how else DOPS came to their decision. The refs will have submitted a report and have given context to the video. We have to endure Toby far too much - it is almost every week. Familiarity breeds contempt and the refs have clearly done us no favours at all this week.
Maybe one for the stattos but are there refs in the league that have not been to Kirkcaldy?
Whilst I've said the club needs to be a friendlier place remember the refs role in this tonight.
One final point - we have wanted this Flyers team to show passion and commitment. Last week they stood as one, so please come out tonight with as many pals as you can get and show your appreciation.
