Well I never saw that coming. A very good team performance that made Storm look really ordinary. 3 from 4 on the powerplay if my calculations are right. Good first period with goals from Benson on a rebound and from Chase, who had a wee meltdown at Pavel at the end of the period earning him a two minute penalty. An early soft pen on McNicholas gave Manchester a 5 on 3 but excellent penalty killing saw the pens out. The third goal was a thing of beauty with Carter converting after nice passes from Chase and McNicholas and by the time Peacock made it 5 just after halfway Ginn was gone from Storm’s net. Benson got a second and McKenzie got the seventh before the end of two. In the third Flyers played a disciplined game seeing the game out with a goal from the point from Lescovs finishing the scoring. A couple of great stops from Owen in the second and good defending around Owen throughout gave Shane his shutout. No failures in the team tonight with the most confidence shown by Flyers in any game I’ve seen this season. Good to see Jamieson taking a regular shift and looking the part. Krogh even had a few shifts near the end. Hopefully this type of performance can continue next weekend.

The question has to be asked, if it was simply a case of not having them play a dump and chase system then why has it been played for the last however many seasons? Fans have been saying that they didn’t like watching it, that it was ineffective and from the results , not just this season, that it clearly doesn’t work when continuously adopted. Down to one guy for instilling it in his team year on year

Hell of a result so massive congrats to the team, it will have taken a huge weight of them. Not seen any of the game but if the system has been changed hopefully it stays changed. Been one of my major issues for a few years just how boring the games had become under Todd's leadership.
Really hope they can kick on from this game, Its not going to get any easier.
Shut Out for Shane is probably the best bit for me given how hard he has had to work so far.

Shut Out for Shane is probably the best bit for me given how hard he has had to work so far. It was much simpler than that - there was no real change in systems. On the dump and chase - if you have time on the puck then you won't see dump and chase - we had time on the puck for almost the first time this season 1st period, if Owen doesn't stand tall then they are in the game as much as we are - the quality of their finishing (these were missed shots) was dire - they had a lot of chances throughout the game The 2nd period we stretch the lead, they get more ragged, we get more confident, guys feel good with the puck etc etc etc My Messier statement wasn't a wind up - what I saw on Saturday night suggested that Storm were as poor as their record to date demonstrated However you can only beat what is in front of you and they did it with some style. 3 PPG's - the first of the season from 4 tries - huge difference maker - although the PP's were still generally a bit harum scarum. There were a lot of the usual faults but they went unpunished for a change. There were some nice 'team goals' in the total too which again shows that when this team are not busting their ass just to stay in games they do have some intelligent hockey players and nice to see a spread of goals. McNicholas leads the entire league in helpers with 10 on the season so far.

Well done to the team, great result no doubt, hopefully this is a sign of better things to come. However I hope that Todd doesn’t think his decision to go with such a lightweight squad should be vindicated based on this one result! …….just like a good team doesn’t become bad overnight the same applies to a bad team becoming good overnight. Too many weak links in this team and change is still needed if we are to have any chance of being even mid table.

The lightweight team would be fine if they got to play at home against Springer every game. He was chasing shadows most of the night and I'm still trying to work out how we scored 8 goals and he only finished with a -2 rating.

Statement from the storm
First and foremost the club would like to thank the fans for their continued support. Although it’s very early days and we’re just a handful of home games into the season, it’s been a tough start and we understand the concerns from the fan base.
After Saturdays convincing 5-0 victory over Fife Flyers at the Storm Shelter we had hoped that could be a turning point for our group, but after suffering a heavy defeat against Fife Flyers in Kirkaldy last night, we would like our fans to understand that we will not sit back and we will not accept that level of performance here in Manchester, we expect much more from the team we have put together.
As we always have, we will act quickly to make any adjustments needed, but we also understand it is a strangely quiet market for players and must be patient to make sure we find the correct pieces to ensure we are competitive every night. The management team are working tirelessly to improve and move this team forwards as fast as possible and now we must prepare accordingly for what is a very important week. A maximum of SIX league points are available, with four of them on the table at the Storm Shelter.
Head Coach Ryan Finnerty commented; “After a great team performance on Saturday, to show up like we did Sunday was extremely disappointing. You can not take a night off in this league and expect to have any success. We pride ourselves on being a team that’s hard to play against and right now we couldn’t be further from that position. The focus now turns to see how we respond as team this week. We are extremely active in the open market and will not hesitate to improve this team.”

At least they put out a statement and all take ownership, more than can be said for our individuals
