He’s not one of the best this year. He is bang average. 9th (for goalies with more than 10 games player) best save % is not being one of the best. 90.90 is not exactly all star stats. Yes he makes big saves in some games, but he’s not a league leader this season in any regard. In fact he is on track for his worst season in the league this year. Yes, he needed help and didn’t get it. But at least 3 of the 9 goals he allowed was all on him. The wrap around, the wrister from the point where particularly bad. Not sure many people have said anything about the effort from the team in that game, they all tried hard, except maybe Philips. And as others said - Larry in particular gave it everything. We ultimately made this final thanks to Glasgow getting 0 points in the group stages, and then battling hard against a steelers team whose wheels are falling off. I’m glad the boys made a final, as it’s great for the fans. But losing like that hurt. Mostly cause I felt like we could have competed with them had Owen been flashing the leather like he has done in some games earlier this season. If you listened to Todd’s post game interview you would have heard that he explicitly said they practise not doing the very thing that cost us the first shortie. Bottom line - this is a forgettable squad and I hope we start over fresh next season. Keeping any of the import d would be a mistake, not a single one of them have had pass marks this season. As sad as it is I can’t not agree with everything here. Owen has had his time. Settled down here, (easy pay check)as for the squad again total rebuild required again for next season.

Owen is on a 2 year deal and granted last night wasnt his best performance but we rely too heavily on him every game. No-one plays physical infront of him, clearing his crease or chasing down the players who blatantly stick him to get in his head. When we lose everyone says its the D or Owens fault however we need to score goals as well, we just havent found an out and out goal scorer who takes all the chances given. Losing Cameron at the beginning of the season was brutal. Not sure I agree with getting rid of all imports and starting fresh. I think Nault has done well and albeit from a couple of turn overs Sherbinin has been a decent d man Do we think Bari Mac and Larry will retire at the end of this season?

I disagree that none of the d have played well, I think Hausinger has come on to a game, sherbinin has been good his points production is good, Emmerdahl has cut out the mistakes has been most physical and pitched in offensively. Bafaro is well out his depth, so to is Harsh for a big boy he can't hit and doesn't add any offensive quality. Reece does well in general for a young Brit d and is there to basically give others a breather. Page we just don't know, I hear he is doing ok at Solway nothing startling but is able to perform at that level. We need a better mix of stay at home physical d me n we can't have them all trying to always make plays it leads to allowing teams to run around our end. But I think this is the coaches faults playing that type game.

I am utterly surprised that folk think Owen has had his time and is average. He has kept the team in games when they have been bang average and poor. He has been absolutely peppered, and faced more ice time than any other keeper. Yet despite this he sticks out in every game bar one or two as a top class keeper in a poor team who do not play defensively and try to cut down shots or teams times in our zone?

Bit harsh to get at the players, they are an easy target and i agree some are not good enough. But the problem at fife goes deeper than the players

Owen is anything but past his best. Owen yet again has prevented us this season from being firmly glued to the bottom of the league. You only need to look at how many MOM awards he has picked up. Yes he didn’t have his best game last night but come on folks! Any team in the league, perhaps excluding Belfast, would happily have him in their squad. Our downfall this season is we’re not scoring enough goals and to me that comes down to the coaches not bringing in the right players. We still don’t have an out and out goal scorer

No one is saying he’s past his best man. I’m just saying that in last nights cup game, he was an average goalie. And average goalies don’t win cups. Shame, but it is what it is. And having known a fair amount of net minders, my semi educated guess was that he was overwhelmed by the occasion. It happens.
He’s a fine goalie, and a good starting piece for next year. Happy to have him.

No surprise in the scoreline really, something like this was always a possibility. Giants are just better than us in every aspect of hockey. It was men against boys, great to get to a final c*** to get hammered in one.
We're a bottom three team this season, third bottom if we're lucky, big changes are required before we make ourselves a permanent fixture at this end of the league. We should at least be looking to compete comfortably mid table and thats going to require a top to bottom clear out.

And that is right we are a bottom 3 side have been for years, but most times we do something that papers over the cracks. We're the only team to still have the same coach for more than 10 years in this league, we bring in the same style of players every year, don't bud a sqaud that has all elements to win in it.
When are people gonna realise as long as muir owns the club and Todd and hutchy wanna coach this is what yer getting

I think if you factored in all the injuries meaning the team has had very little consistent selection, and boys playing injured I think if we are going to analyse something then this must have had an impact. But there is no doubt recruiting was not right mix of talents wise, lack of depth Brit wise, and coaching tactics and principles have not been right for the league or the team they recruited. All to some extent. But not a simple as one thing.

Getting to the final papers over the cracks the hockey has been horrible Aye but you'd surely want to get there, it is an achievement whether it's suits whatever agenda, as in poor team papers over cracks, or possible good team what if...... Just think some folk struggle to call it for that it is, a good achievement.

Just think some folk struggle to call it for that it is, a good achievement. Let’s be realistic here, we beat the worst Clan team in their history, we scrapped a win over possibly the worst Dundee team in years, we scrapped a win over a complacent Steelers team in turmoil and were leathered by a Giants team who are in a league of their own. Other teams results benefited us. We fluked a final no ifs nor buts. Is that really a good achievement?? Now folk are like “Playoff push” we can only finish as high as 8th which means we will play the league winners ie Flames or Giants. If the latter, we will get leathered again. We lack goal scoring, Brit depth and physical players who are prepared to put hits in. I think folk struggle to call it is what it is… a shambles of a season again, season after season the same story on repeat.
