With this season finished by all accounts thought it would be fun to reminisce. With 14 imports available who would be in your All time Flyers team from the EIHL era. Would any of the current guys get in there.
My lines would be as follows:
NM: Kevin Regan
NM: Blair Daly
D1: Derek Keller and Jeff Caister
D2: Matt Cohen and Russ Moyer (Captain)
D3: Matt Nickerson and Sam Jones
F1: Jason Pitton Casey Haines Bobby Chaumont
F2: Jordan Fulton Ryan Dingle TJ Caig
F3: Carlo Finucci Mike Cazzola John Dolan
F4. Hamish McAlpine Bari McKenzie
One thing is for sure we have had some pretty great players who have worn the jersey in the EIHL era. Others that got us off our seats include the likes of Lukacevic, Gauthier, Schaber, Kyle Haines, Shane Owen, Bryan Pitton. Many many great names.
I went with this team for a couple of reasons.
D1: Arguably our most complete pairing complemented each other brilliantly.
D2: Two of our best ever D men could do a bit of everything both very well rounded and can play all situations
D3: Nickerson put bums on seats was a huge character and helped provide some much needed toughness. Whilst there’s been better players he has to be in the team in my opinion. Sam Jones has gone onto play GB and is our best British D man in the elite era. Horne from the BNL would have pipped him but not EIHL Horne.
F1: Our most balanced forward line in the elite league era. Still remember the night they ripped the giants apart. Bobby was unbelievable that season and whilst he divides opinion was a great goalscorer.
F2: I nearly went with Schaber but Dingle was a great leader good on the draw and in all situations. Fulton was an absolute nightmare to play against and whilst I did consider Bloodoff felt he was the best choice. Right hand shots is something we have lacked and this was therefore a tough decision. I felt Caig gave us something different and got us to the final 4 so for me a worthy inclusion.
F3: Carlo has to take that spot no other third liner has done as much whilst other players were bigger names Finucci brought it every night and loved the club. Cazzola was a top face off man and he and Finucci are two of our best penalty killers. Dolan has to be in there as our best point scorer.
F4: Hamish and Bari to play 5/6 mins a night with an alternating centre (Dingle/Cazzola) to check the life out the opposition and provide some much needed energy.
Only Bari makes it from this years team. Interested to hear others thoughts but one thing is for sure we’ve had the talent in the past. Now we need to build for the future a mix of skill, size, speed and toughness is a must,
