Next Season would like to see the club move away from no news for months Have a two week holiday after playoffs Get the fans engaged in May Get the Coach signed Hopefully Tom Coolen Make off season exciting And continue with weekly updates Get season tickets on sale early If returning players get them announced Also what is our strategy for Brits The NIHL must have guys we can sign up We need to increase our depth it’s the only way to be competitive in this league

Being optimistic, if Coolan is returning, it would be a nice touch if he took to the ice after tomorrow nights game and announced it.

Great news that coach Coolen is returning. There is a bit of a feel good factor at the club at the moment, there was a decent atmosphere tonight despite it being as good as a dead rubber. It’s important the momentum carries on through the close season. Regular updates, a few early signings, early bird season tickets, etc, etc. It’s time to get that average attendance back to where it needs to be. Roll on 24/25.

Who we bringing back then? I’ll leave my list of yes, maybes and no’s below.
Yes: Lajuenesse Osterberg Humitz Chiodo Giles Owen
Maybe: Makela Pulkkinen Emmerdahl Shirley
No: Wehrs Pouteau Pilon Pavlovs Eriksson
Need a complete overhaul on the Brits but not getting in to that discussion again. Would look to bring in Moore, Korol and another two from the NIHL

I would be happy for a top to bottom overhaul.
Certainly think the d core could be totally replaced and it would not be a bad thing.
The forwards we have are good, but unlikely to keep the top boys.
A full fresh squad wouldn’t be a bad move.
Assume that we get Owen back next year again too. Which would be great. He’s a fantastic netminder and a solid base to build on.
Please please please do not resign emmers.

I think it speaks volumes that none of the players reacted to this news and that once announced he walked off to the room

You could make a case for bringing any of the forwards back even down to the third line. Chiodo has been a real hidden gem in the team, he does all parts of the game well despite his diminutive size. Eriksson is one of the slowest players I have seen in a Flyers jersey but his numbers are really good which suggests he is a clever player. Pilon is a lot of fun to watch, his numbers are not great but he really puts himself about. Even Gilling has never let the side down when he has played despite often being the odd one out.
Defence needs overhauled. There are 2 I would perhaps bring back but I would pass on the other 3. I think Pouteau has done quite well as a first year pro. His decision making and timing sometimes lets him down but I think that will come. There is a time to step forward or go for the big hit but other times when he has to take a step back. Makela is technically very good but I think struggles a bit with the physical side of the game in this league.
After making roots here, I think Owen is here until he hangs up the skates and possibly beyond but I am not sure that is a good thing. I know this will not be a popular opinion but I think he is average. Average for the league at this time and average amongst all the goalies we have had in the Elite League era. He occasionally has a night where he stands on his head to keep everything(or almost everything) out but he also occasionally has off nights as well. Most nights he is just decent but I think there could be better out there if we were looking.
We probably need a British defenceman and 2 forwards that are good enough to get regular minutes on the ice. Unfortunately, I don't think Spence or Page will ever get to that level. Spence is technically sound but there is nothing about him that stands out. I had higher hopes for Page, I think because of his size but he has not pushed on and it always feels like he has a mistake in him. I would not totally write off Kay yet. I am basing this more on what I have read and heard about him than what I have seen myself but apparently he was the stand out player at every age level coming through the ranks at Kirkcaldy Ice Hockey Club and has recently been called up to play for GB under-18's. For next season though, I think we will have to look down south and see what we can get from the NIHL to fill our ranks and give us more depth.
I have faith in Coolen. Given a whole summer to put a roster together, I think he can make us even more competitive. I still think it is highly unlikely that any team outwith the big 3 or 4 are going to win the league any time soon but surely at some point, somebody else is going to win the cup or the play-offs. Guildford have come the closest over the last few years but why not Fife to consistently get to the level that the Flames have. This season has proved that if the club can put an entertaining, competitive team on the ice then the fans will come to watch. The board have clearly backed Coolen with the imports we have brought in this season including a lot of ins and outs. Hopefully the budget can be stretched a little further to the Brits for next season.

I have to agree with your comment on Gilling. He had another good game last night. He is not afraid to get stuck in and is a deceptively fast skater. There are parts of his game that he could improve on but I think he could really develop if given the chance. I personally think he should have been making Shirley work for his regular place throughout the season. I’d have him back
