i don't understand why we don't have the quarter finals best of say 3 then the semi's best of 5 and the 2 teams left play on the sunday for the trophy, on the saturday why not have a skills comp like the nhl , fastest skater, faster skater - goalie, then may be saturday night have a gardner v erdhart game and then all teams will be involved, it should after all be about all the teams and the seasons they have had right.

Most ridiculous idea yet, lets make the whole Saturday pointless instead of one game on a Sunday.

I agree that play off series would be a better way to finish the season, to play a 52 game season and then finish it of with a quarter final, semi and final seems a little weak to me.
But I hear that the play off weekend is the only real money making event for the EIHL and it is unlikely to change. I enjoyed the Saturday with the two semi finals and fans from all teams there.
I think you know my feelings on the 3d/4th place game, this really has to be replaced with some sort of competitive game or just dumped all together leaving the Sunday for the grand final only. This would let the fans who have travelled get back home a bit earlier. If there is to be a game before the final it has to be a competitive one though, the fans that have spent their cash to attend the weekend deserve this not a non contact pantomine game which does nothing to showcase our sport. Scotland v England at some level might be ok.

I'm sure its been said before that the issue with increasing the playoffs to multi game series is the ice availability for the arena teams.
We have to remember that the likes of Nottingham, Sheffield, Belfast and Braehead don't have the luxury of first call on their arenas and have to pre book months in advance. A multi game series would mean they would have to provisionally book the arena for the 5 or 7 game series and then it not be needed if its all over in 3 or 4 games. Very costly to pay for ab empty arena

Perhaps an All Star Select Game could replace the current 3rd/4th playoff. Possibly a Gardiner v Erhardt Conference match up involving players from the teams that didn't make the actual playoff finals. For this season then, it would have been a Dundee/Hull/Caps Select versus a Panthers/Blaze/Devils Select. This would give fans from non qualifying teams added interest, with some of their own players to cheer on during the weekend. Having a small trophy up for grabs may even help make the game more competitive than merely an exhibition game. It may not guarantee a high tempo body crunching, lay it all on the line match, but certainly, I think it would be a better option than the staus quo.

"Someone also mentioned that a few years ago there used to be a Scotland v England under 18s match. I am sure they could and should come up with something other than what is on offer just now with this 3rd/4th place playoff"
The Scotland v. England game is now on the friday night at the conference weekend at Hull. May bank holiday weekend.

They should make it the 'custard pie' game. The winning captain or coach gets to wallop the loser with a custard pie at centre ice. That would give them something to play for

Why not have a beer fest ............... well maybe we did get one, only 1 casualty though and he got the bullet from the purple squad, conspicuous by his absence in the bore fest that was the non-event, the EIHL must ditch that 3rd place game.

You should have come to Coventry for the EPL Finals weekend :-)
2 Excellent Semi Finals, then on Sunday, the Under 18 National Final (Was Nottingham v Bracknell) with Hornets winning a really game, then the final itself was superb.
4 Great Games.
EIHL needs to drop the 3rd v 4th, nobody wants it, but I wouldn't get upset about it, it was always going to be that way. So many other options the league could consider, why not let Nottingham Lions (ENL side) play a league game maybe in front of a huge crowd? Wasn't my idea that one, was Sabre74, but it's a good one, could be a really good build up for the final.
