Hard to stop my cynical brain from just going yeah whatever heard it all before, BUT Daryl will try and do this the best he can and he isnt the reason why i'm cynical.
"Local club for local players" a statement that was first uttered by Dutes during the first EIHL season. "Bigger stronger faster" said pretty much every off season about any local player. The need for this academy was about 10 years ago. Jeff Hutchins brought in as director of player development (just not with guys in KIHC) has managed what exactly since joining in that capacity.
You get the idea why I hold very little hope for this.
I hope Wish Daryl and Sammy can make this a success but again they aren't the problem that needs fixed. KIHC has had success for decades and producing talented young players isn't the problem it's the senior team coaching staff taking no interest in local guys that is and always has been the issue.
If the club where deadly serious about this then invest in a Club strength and conditioning coach, invest in a gym built at the rink for all ages to use. Maybe do something radical and give young players some ice time rather than riding the pine.
Going to say this yet again - with Dutes and Muir running the Flyers I just don't see any change coming.

There's a couple of things here. My biggest gripe is with KIHC. So what has Stephen Lynch done for last however many years he was coaching co-ordinator and the publicised link between the Flyers and KIHC. What about the now 21 years plus players who have been failed by him and the coaches for years, while they took £400 mortgage paying salary per month for hee haw?
There was nothing stopping good level training etc for years since a lot of our coaches coach at national level also, and Lynchy runs the whole weekends that the players used to attend for Scotland, giving seminars and talks on nutrition etc?
Yes it's good to see, but what is going to tempt the best young players to Fife, or to stay at Fife. Currently we have Dumfries, Murrayfield, Dundee bossing the SNL and all playing English teams in a highly competitive cross over league offering free to play hockey. The only realistic prospect left at Kdy due to this is Scott Jamieson.
What the Kestrels need is actual sponsorship to allow free hockey, proper coaching as is only NOW being hinted at, and an actual proper link with Flyers. Otherwise the good players will go elsewhere. They need all 3 things, along with an appetite to actually help from Flyers coaches, and directors, talk is cheap, and has been for a number of years.
Bring back the days of Bean, Chic, and Kenny Horne who coached for nothing, and produced top notch players. I'm sorry Daz means well, and change has to start somewhere, but he has been part of the problem for years also, along with the I'll coach teams my son is in, or to get my son in them brigade.

You have pretty much hit the nail on the head! Apart from stating the obvious issue at KIHC which is CORRUPTION! The club is rotten to the core! Coaches have ALWAYS and WILL ALWAYS be in it for their kids, that is no secret. I can't think of one coach or manager at KIHC who doesn't have a child at the club (with the exception of Kestrels coach & John Simpkins? - think that's his surname). I'm all for change, I am also all for giving people a chance, which Daryl Venters has to get! to prove to the club/players/parents etc he's not just in it for his own son (who I'm sure will do fine at any club without Daryl's input). I say give Daryl a chance! I also say TD, JH are the wrong people to be running the Flyers now and who folks should be looking to, for the kids to get a chance to play up! (they will always be roster fillers in Fife, whilst they two are in charge) as they are only in it (like all coaches) to win and have had more than their fair share of chances to help support KIHC deliver the next future stars. Good luck again to Daryl, but I have a feeling your vision, bubble, hopes will meet a sour end! But I hope not! For what it's worth, it's great to see Lynch away! He is without a shadow of a doubt, the most obnoxious, self centred individual in hockey and not even his friends have a good word to say about him...good riddance!
