I think it is very harsh to call the weekend a disgrace. I don't think Coventry are a disgrace for getting thumped in Belfast and then losing narrowly to the same opponents at home the following night. We were competitive on Saturday night and the game could have went either way. I have not looked at the stats but I felt like we had more of the puck and more shots at goal although perhaps Dundee had the more clear cut chances. The game came down to Dundee converting on a powerplay late on after we had done very little with a powerplay about 5 minutes earlier. Lots of teams are going to get hammered in Sheffield, Belfast and Cardiff this season. We should be competitive but there are going to be nights when we are not quite at it and if a team like Sheffield are on their game, then we are going to get punished.
Success in this league is relative for us, Dundee, Glasgow, Manchester, Coventry and Guildford. Since we have been in the league, Coventry have won the play-offs once. Every other league, cup and play-offs have been won by Sheffield, Cardiff, Belfast or Nottingham. Realistically, success for us is to get out of our Challenge Cup group and make the play-offs. We have a decent team this season that has achieved the first goal and I expect us to make the play-offs as well. On our night, we might give a heavyweight a bloody nose but not over the course of a whole season. We have the right to be disappointed with a narrow home defeat to a rival club or a heavy defeat away to a big club but some perspective is needed.
