Owen watch, is he at fault Goal 1 No Goal 2 No Goal 3 No Goal 4 No Goal 5 No Goal 6 No Goal 7 Yes
Can't see what he could have done on any of regular time goals, so not sure why he's getting such a hard time.

The problem was the defence from the hole team. Owen was left hung out to dry far too often.

He was left to dry a few times. But the stats tell a story. He’s slid from 94-95% down to 80% & 77% this weekend. www.eliteleague.co.uk/player/279-shane-owenFor some context, littles 10 game hammering ht Dundee, he was at 78%. I don’t think anyone on here is laying blame at his door alone, but you cannot pretend that he is blameless here. It was a must win weekend, and had the usual version of Owen turned up (90% or better) we would have walked away comfortably with 4 points.

I completely agree that he wasn't on form but the defensive performance was shocking in front of him. I think if any player has saved up some goodwill its Owen.

Only thing is though if he has no chance on 6 out of 7 goals his percentages are going to be down through no fault of his own? It's not as simple as saying his percentages have went down, we are shipping lots of sloppy goals as a team, to me the keepers are not to blame bar one or two of those goals.

You have to love this coach. [b He's a legend (even if he goes at end of season) I recall reading the rule book a number if years ago and it did say you could pick your helmet up and put it back on or skate off with it. Think it changed but different leagues have different rules so Tom will just have to suck it up. Legend?. been in bottom half of table all season.. everyone to their own

Don’t think anyone is saying Owen sucks. He’s been a great goalie for us for years. And will come good again. Just sucks that he has an off weekend, when we really needed him to help us out. Sure he feels it more than most. Hoping he bounces back. Still think we should have started the other guy in at least one of the game.

Which goal do you think he should have done better? The winner? Stuffed short side cause he went down early. The breakaway first goal against the British kid who went glove side? He’s at fault for more than just one goal in that game. He knows it. We know it. Tbf the playoff hope died with our Christmas performances, in fact it died prob earlier - Coolen was brought on with a couple too many resigned players who are not good enough. The ones he could gas, he did. But the rock around our defences neck (emmer) had been a problem all year. Hence why Coolen is cutting his minutes. Simply not good enough and brought back by his number one fan boy TD. If Coolen stays, I’d wager emmer won’t be resigned.

It's mental how people can look at the same game and see two different things, but that's the beauty of an opinion, and I'm not going to slate anyone for it. I disagree with both Owens contribution to the goals scored against and Emmer. I do agree at times with the problems around Wehrs, and I do think our defence is poor compared to the obvious talent up front. But I think coaching philosophy is an offensive one and it shows with the amount of turnovers and problems we create for ourselves. I can see lots of good things that Coolen has done, I don't think we will make play offs, I hope he comes back with a fair chunk of the forwards, and that there is serious effort to get a Brit d to stop overplaying defencemen, and at least one more Brit forwards that can play minutes. Our form since January I think is pretty decent and that's how it needs to be as a minimum all season.

That’s fair. We can agree to disagree.
It’s been a frustrating year - this team has been better than any squad of the last few years. They are playing entertaining hockey and the fans are returning. Even tho we are not doing well in the standings.
A proper offseason for the coach will let us really see what we have in tom. And the owners do appear to be willing to spend the cash. Hope they continue to do that into next year.
Brits is the key to unlocking potential. Just seems like we would have more chance of striking oil in the carpark. Let’s hope that changes. No idea about the youth coming up in Scotland, but there has to be some!

Going in to 3rd 6-3 up Losing 6-7 in OT and that was having the man advantage IMO Coolen got caught up in the Drama And red mist He had opportunities to call a TIme Out Get his team grounded and the best line combo on 1st shift This hurts more than the last period capitulation to the Caps and Hutchins Stars Poor poor outcome We gave them life when they were done

To me if you are 16, 17 year old and doing well in the SNL, you will still struggle with the complicated systems, pace, and playing against the men in the Elite. More likely the NIHL is the route at that age, then by early 20s you have matured enough in body and mind to have a chance in Elite as long as you are also competing at that level. Different though if your parents have managed to get you experience in North America or Europe. But then they have to see Flyers and Kirkcaldy as a place to come and be developed. Although all other Elite teams do it, so no reason Flyers can't?

Has anyone actually given thought to a British goal tender? We have undoubtably a great history even in the elite league of having good, possibly, great goaltenders. Stephen Murphy created an extra import out one the ice and that was the key to much of Morrisons successes. Surely it is easier to have a young goalie of 16/17 learning their trade with whoever is the current goaltender as the physical side of the game is more manageable than an out ice skater.
