Yes but at least the British player can play every night... Surely that's better value than paying a wage for an import who has to sit out Is it? In theory it should be but say you have £2k to spend a month on a player. That MIGHT get you a 3rd line Brit if you are lucky who can play every night. It could get you a little known import on a 1st year pro deal who turns out to be Troy Lajuenesse. Which is the better value then? Don't get me wrong, I want to see full time Brits in this team. We need them! I'm just saying that our managements mindset is usually towards bang for buck and with imports, there is way more bang for buck available.

Todd had a lot to answer for resulting in the current situation at the club with Brits. A good few would have still been at the club had it not been for him.

Reece Kelly has never been anywhere close to the Flyers setup so doesn't fall into the "Todd to Blame" category. Out of all the young Brits we've had I'll say Cochrane on D and The 2 Scotts (Henderson and Jamieson) are the only forwards I think could have still been here and contributing if they were given the ice time to get up to speed in the EIHL. I still think Henderson can do a job for us as he was good in the short spells we saw him. I think as a full time player with his size and hockey IQ he could be a productive 3rd line forward in the Elite League. These are players who left the club because they weren't getting the icetime they were told they would and no matter what they did, they weren't going to get it.
You've got players like Jordan Buesa and Caly Robertson who are showing now that they are perfectly capable of playing in the EIHL based on their NIHL performances but at the time, they were not ready. Caly is a PPG player in the NIHL (when used correctly) so could also absolutely contribute here but I don't see him being used correctly here. Jordan Buesa falls into the same category as Caly for me.

What we thinking about Coolens latest interview with FFP? It's no surprise to anyone that he is looking at our D. It has been woeful the last few years, yeah we have had good individuals but as a unit, defensively we have been poor. We also haven't had enough to kick start the offense with good puck possession, there was nobody on the back end last year to control the PP and no big shot from the blue line for us. It seems like he was looking to give opportunities to others, particularly Kay and he did have a very good U18 World Championship, but our horrendous December prevented him from doing that for the rest of the season. Coolen has learned this league very quickly and it sounds as if we are going with spares from the start of the season again but we can't run with 5 D for half the season. I do think we were really looking at Moore but offered him nothing to persuade to come here. Muir really doesn't belive Brits give good value for money. I think we should have been putting a system in place as soon as we joined the EIHL, looking at our juniors and identifying anybody with significant talent and putting them on programmes to prepare them for the Elite and getting those 16 and above to train with the Flyers to show them what would be needed. I disagree that this isn't a development league you just need to look at Jones, Cochrane, Kelly and even Finucci and Chiodo. They all developed into really good quality I don't think Coolen would of returned for this season if it was going to be same set up as last season, he knows we need a capable full time Brit to make up 3 lines, the up and coming local youngsters can be used in training and in a fourth line, even just a few shifts a game to bring them on, have them on a 2 way if possible in NIHL to help their progression, I pretty sure Tom and Todd are well aware of this and trying their best to make it work.

For whatever reasons "brits" don't want to come here. Hell we couldn't even keep Cochrane who was getting regular shifts. If Flyers did find someone with potential and developed him he would jump ship at the earliest opportunity so it would all have been a waste of effort. Sign extra imports and rotate them properly so we don't have another Gilling sitting twidling his thumbs for two months.

Really hoping for a quality Brit so we can look forward to 3 full lines, possibly 4.
