That halfwit Simms down in Sheffield claims that talks between Troy and Steelers never happened.
The 'never happened' wording makes me think he's already signed somewhere else, hopefully back here...

Laj clearly enjoyed his hockey in Kirkcaldy last year. Sometimes better to be the superstar fans favourite, big fish small pond scenario. I am confident he will be back and will be announced as our final signing as another good bit of marketing.

Aye its not easy with the money these guys want to move up to Scotland. I'd of hoped we could of gotten a guy like Cownie who looks like hes headed to MK. Just have to wait and see how the final roster looks though.

By sounds of it they are finding it hard to compete with the wages around the whole country for experienced Brits, along with players not wanting to come here. They may need to try and forge links with NIHL teams for regular two ways, and maybe success would be turning one of these players, like James Spence in to an effective 3rd line forward, just like Flyers had to do when they came in to the league. Need to think outside the box like offer a young boy from down south an apprenticeship or college/uni place, other teams do these things to bridge the gap, along with accomodation.

This is it we need to accept the reality and start building for the future now get young guys in that can start playing 5/6 mins a night in a 4th line role and try and build them up. Me and the guys we stand with at the games for years have been saying we should be using uni or college places to attract brits as well. There isn't a quick fix unfortunately.

My thoughts are that reality is that Elite is not a development league. Unless you are an exceptional Brit then it’s maybe not the league for young Brits. Reality is Fife do not have anybody good enough to play at this level and unless we’re prepared to pay well, offer incentives, good education, car, accommodation…etc, then we’re not going to attract folk from elsewhere. I personally think that the number of imports should be raised and folk resign themselves to the fact

What we thinking about Coolens latest interview with FFP? It's no surprise to anyone that he is looking at our D. It has been woeful the last few years, yeah we have had good individuals but as a unit, defensively we have been poor. We also haven't had enough to kick start the offense with good puck possession, there was nobody on the back end last year to control the PP and no big shot from the blue line for us. It seems like he was looking to give opportunities to others, particularly Kay and he did have a very good U18 World Championship, but our horrendous December prevented him from doing that for the rest of the season. Coolen has learned this league very quickly and it sounds as if we are going with spares from the start of the season again but we can't run with 5 D for half the season. I do think we were really looking at Moore but offered him nothing to persuade to come here. Muir really doesn't belive Brits give good value for money. I think we should have been putting a system in place as soon as we joined the EIHL, looking at our juniors and identifying anybody with significant talent and putting them on programmes to prepare them for the Elite and getting those 16 and above to train with the Flyers to show them what would be needed. I disagree that this isn't a development league you just need to look at Jones, Cochrane, Kelly and even Finucci and Chiodo. They all developed into really good quality

I disagree that this isn't a development league you just need to look at Jones, Cochrane, Kelly and even Finucci and Chiodo. They all developed into really good quality Finucci was 28 when he joined us and was developed in the NCAA, to suggest he was developed in the EIHL is ridiculous. Chiodo was 24 when he joined us, his development came in the form of 4 years in the OHL. Kelly and Jones also developed in junior hockey in Canada. Cochrane got development through Kirkcaldy Juniors but wasn't until he had spent a season in the NIHL that he proved his ability to play beyond SNL to other teams. The EIHL is NOT a development league. It's a league where young players who have proven they can cut it in development leagues get a shot to prove they belong. If this was a development league, Brodie Kay and Fynn Page would have seen a lot of ice time last year, as would James Spence. Brodie Kay and Josh Saunders are 2 of the brightest lights in the junior development in Kirkcaldy but both of them need some regular ice time in the NIHL to show their abilities at a higher level than SNL. What Fife need is some sort of link with both Kirkcaldy Juniors and an NIHL team to allow them to send promising youngsters to get game time and see whether or not they have a shot at an EIHL role. You can't go SNL to Elite, the jump is too great. NIHL 1 and 2, SNL, these are development leagues. NIHL to an extent too is a development league although it's moving a little more away from that and more towards a viable 2nd tier hockey league in the UK. If we have the money to sit with 2 spare imports every night, we have the money to pay for 2 full time Brits IMO. The problem is that for the money, an import will be much better value for money than the Brit you get for that price.

Yes but at least the British player can play every night... Surely that's better value than paying a wage for an import who has to sit out
