To ship 9 goals in a play off game, an away play off game, one where if ever we needed to keep things low scoring this was it is well disappointing.
Defensively we are an accident waiting to happen, we cough up the puck in our end zone far to often give up grade A chances and put ourselves right under pressure. Last night should all have been getting out of there with minimal damage, damage is done now though.

It was noticeable that all our defence started trying to carry the puck, and like of Osterberg trying to beat players at his own goal line. The message has to have been to go for it in this leg. For me the coach likes offensive hockey as all of our forwards are offensively minded and take loads of chances. Also our d with exception of Emmer and Brady cannot play physical in their own end, and end up running around chasing forwards. Regardless this season has been way better but I hope Tom has seen what a more rounded team with better Brits could do in this league.

I'm not sure what Owen was at fault for last night apart from the one on the ice through his legs from Schudra? He was hung out to dry rest of them, but will see what highlights show

To be fair to Owen he saved two breakaways and made a couple of other really good saves. He did give up a couple of softies as well though. You can’t blame him for most though some absolute rookie errors from our D

In fairness to Pavlovs I think he is usually very sound defensively and shored us up when he came in as was good on face offs and has an active stick. Because he’s not the fastest skater out there you don’t always see it. His issues arise when he tries to play offensively like the giveaway for Balmas breakaway. There is a reason he’s a Latvian international and that’s his defensive game. We lost the game because of individual errors, and conceding goals off the rush and second opportunities where we didn’t get the puck out at the time of asking. I think Wehrs was injured so I’ll let him off tonight but as a collective group we were all over the place. Humitz and Pulkinnen were skating hard from the get go but what does Shirley give us. He needs to play much more physical for a man of his size and is so passive out there and not strong along the boards. This group has a great core we need to hang on to the following and then look for upgrades: - Osterberg - TLJ - Humitz - Pavlovs - Pulkinnen - Chiodo - Giles - Makela As others have pointed out defense is where our problem lies. We held Sheffield to one goal with 4 D (one of which was Pavlovs) but since then have got away from the defensive side of the game. I hope the guys leave it all out there on Sunday and don’t just go through the motions they need to leave the rink on a positive note. I don’t expect us to qualify but I hope we give Sheffield a proper test and show them what Flyers hockey is all about Can you describe what flyers hockey is all about ?

Totally agree with your comments and the 8 returnees you have listed, add a decent Brit so we can play at least 3 full lines, strengthen the D the priority for next season, playing 5 D man against 12 forwards most games was always going to be a challenge. Let's hope with the increased crowds this season, the extra games in challenge cup and play offs, will give us an increased budget for next season to build on the progress we have made this season.

Really think we need to be getting full time brits and run 4 lines next season Full time Brits will take a big wage and will need housed and a car, this will not happen at Fife.

I have to disagree, Coolan now knows what is required for this league…. More Brit, a back up goalie, better fixture schedule, better travel arrangements…etc and will have made these clear to the owners as part of his return agreement. I think between better crowds and potentially better sponsorship deals there should be a better chance of this happening. I’d like to hope that somebody is chapping on Mr Diageo’s and others doors this week trying to get a cash injection

But Coolan gets folk through the doors and bums on seats not Tam. This time last year there were less than 1000 attending games. That’s considerably less wonga in Tams hipper than it is now

Tam muir has to see and understand this league teams need depth you either need a couple of full time brits or you run 4 lines or both if the money is there, if you don't have depth your bottom 3 or 4 every season. Flyers have done the business in every league they have ever been in its about time muir put his money up and made this club great again
