Kay again showed that he was more than capable of taking a regular shift. Every bit as good as any of last years D and looked very solid for the whole of tonight’s game. Coolan saw something in him and he was right.

Well that was exactly the workout we wanted. Very enjoyable, watchable game. Little bit of an edge and fiestiness which was good.
I thought their passing looked a little off, maybe not as crisp as they would want and at times they dragged us out off position with their PP but regained composure.
Our D is a lot more composed than last seasons and we kept them to the outside a lot. I didn't feel that we panicked at all and worked really hard all night. We obviously tired as the game went on but last season that would have cost us goals but it didn't look like that was going to happen tonight Pairing Kay with Kreznelok worked really well. We have speed and skill to burn. That Kazakh line, my word. The shot form the bad angle and then through his legs by Musorov were just obscene.
There is an awful lot to like about this team and I don't know who we would leave out for Latal. It's a very hard working, speedy, skilled team and they seem to have a good vibe about them already

Really enjoyable game last night. Quebec were a solid organized team and they had a full bench so i thought Fife would tire. But the stuck with it all the way through and played a very good game.
To me each line looks dangerous and the defence looks very solid. They mimimized quality chances and got to most rebounds first. Owen played a very strong game as well. Kay looks like he can handle regular ice time as well which is great. I think he even got some shifts killing penalties.
Theres alot of potential in this team. Bring on braehead next week!

Another vote for Kay to be getting ice time this season. Thought he did very well against a fast, physical, and well-drilled team. Didn't look panicky at all on the puck and was looking for passes and not just launching it away.

Early days and only the pre-season obviously, but it's almost like that with very limited minutes but lots of training and coaching input last season that Kay....developed a bit. Who'd have thought.

Play him alongside whoever turns out to be our top D man and he will quickly develop. Been many over the years that have been a result of that recipe…..Al Sims /Derek King / Les Millie to name a few

Been many over the years that have been a result of that recipe…..Al Sims /Derek King / Les Millie to name a few Very different times where the gulf in level between junior/snl and the Flyers was far less. But in theory aye it should work. Biggest problem nowadays though is that young guys need to be much more talented to make it and also much bigger and stronger physically. Kay looks a good bit bigger to me this year which will help him. Last year it would of been dangerous putting him out there he would of got hurt. But he looks up to it this year so fair play to him for the work he put in. And to be fair to the old regime they managed it with Reece Cochrane. He played limited minutes with Moyer and came on well. We suffer from the fact that nihl teams can offer far more minutes due to reduced import numbers. That tempts some guys on the fringes of getting ice time away. Guaranteed ice time without needing to put in nearly as much work is a tempting prospect I guess.

I completely agree with you on Kays physical size, this season. I think he could be a real asset from what I’ve seen so far.

Would be massive if Kay could play regular minutes for us.
6D 9F with Spence providing a couple of shifts a period will make the minutes manageable. Yes not ideal compared to running 4 solid forward lines but we can compete with those numbers.
The Kazakhs are going to be exciting to watch and we need to make sure we protect them at all costs, will need to ensure we take a team toughness approach as teams will no doubt target them.

Might have to hope the referees do their bit too to protect Kazakh boys. Agree Brody Kay looks like he's done the work in the office season, and doesn't look out of place, can only get better as well with more exposure and patience.

I would certainly be much happier if we had a Nickerson out there to protect them from any nonsense but it’s not the way of things anymore unfortunately.
Troy and Osterberg managed to avoid being roughed up too often and we can only hope it’s the same for our Kazakhs who are only going to get better as they get adjusted to the league and the environment. Must be nice for them to see the Kazakh flag flying in the stands though!

One thing I did notice about the Kazakh's was that they're not scared to get stuck in when it gets a bit feisty. Few times there was a stramash in front of the opposition goals and they were getting fired into it.
