Good read for Caps fans that. Will be interesting to see if Edinburgh's crowds pick up towards the end of the season, although I doubt they will.
It's always a strange one with the Caps. They've got the second biggest potential audience in Scotland (maybe even first when you consider how many Canadians/Europeans study or work in the Capital) but until they get their facilities sorted out they're knackered. I spent nearly three years living about a five minute drive from Murrayfield but you couldn't have paid me to go and watch them in the freezing cold with no atmosphere. I ended up spending a fortune driving to Kirkcaldy every week instead.
The feedback I always got from the North Americans I spoke to was that the standard was too poor for them, and that's fair enough, they'd probably say that about all the Scottish teams, but a lot of my other friends had been once or twice and just never felt the need to go regularly.
One thing the Flyers have always been good at is making people who've only been once passionate about the sport, and I'm actually struggling to think of people I know who've been to the Flyers with me and not ended up a big fan. The atmosphere in the Auld Barn is key to that.
The Groupon deals have shown there's a pretty big market for Edinburgh waiting to be tapped, they just need to learn how to entice people back. For me a new rink would go an absolute mile for them, but that's probably even out of Scott Neil's hands. Best bet there would be the council deciding they needed a new one probably, but even a small one that they could nearly fill every week would be awesome.
Anyhow, probably veered off topic from the article itself there, but was just something that always annoyed me when I lived in the Burgh so figured I'd put my tuppence worth in!

i think a lot of there fans are of the same opinion austin, it's the capital but why is the crowd so low, one is defo the facilities, 2 i would say football and rugby are definatly bigger sports there , and some even thought speed way bigger than the hockey so what chance have they got.

You're probably right re: the other sports, I guess we've actually been pretty lucky with the Rovers being perennially rubbish over the years and rugby not being much of a draw in Kirkcaldy. I guess there's just quite a lot to do there as well. It's either the Flyers or Kitty's on a Saturday night here and I know where I'd rather be ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

As a Flyers and Rovers fan both have been down for a number of years, not just the Rovers. Just get behind all Kirkcaldy teams
