Wouldn't say stars stepped up? Or had the better of the 3rd at all. They scored 3 bad goals. Good for them as a goal is a goal but they were all bad goals defensively and goalkeeping wise. They definitely did not step up a gear

We dont train enough, and when we do, its at 10 and 11pm, for a pro team its ridiculous.
We have no stamina, and seem to tire, especially when the heads go down.
A radicle overall of coaching and methods needed.
Until a winning mentality is introduced to the club, we'll be going nowhere apart from scrabbling about at the bottom

Flyers were not outplayed or outworked they simply lost 4 bad goals and gifted Stars 2 points, BP had a bad game and that was the difference, its more noticeable when its the goalie that has an off night ............. he's not had many.

Ah good to see the same old knee-jerkers demanding instant changes from top to bottom.
We lost a game - a painful one, a tough loss for sure. but let's get a wee sense of perspective.
Play-offs? Still in the mix in what has to be the tightest league anyone has ever seemn (no doubt that's the fault of the club as well) and have as much of a chance as anyone else.
If we make iot - brilliant. If we don't - well the season has still been a huge improvement on last year and if we learn some more lessons next season can be even better.

Sorry but if we don't make the playoffs the season is no better than last year, yes we have made strides forward BUT only at home. Every club has moved on from last year its the least you look for in everyteam. In all honesty if we want to learn lessons for next year we need to have a full time coach not a player coach and as a must we have to start the season with 11 imports. We also can't afford to have guys like Todd or Danny playing anymore. No disrespect meant to both those guys who have both be great for Flyers more so Todd obviously. If they are to be our coach/s then stay behind the bench and control games, change the gameplan. to often we have seen our guys outplay a team in the first for the other coach to change things and we have no plan b or at least that's how it looks from the stands. Missing the playoffs is more down to us being short on depth for to long and losing so many one goal games earlier in the season. The workload our key guys have been through shows at the business end of the season they look knackered halfway through most games. It's been a long hard slog for them all year hence so many carrying injuries through the year.

Yup. Some lessons no doubt have been learned, others sadly not.
Mine certainly isn't a knee jerk reaction, I've been calling for most of this all year, and indeed since we joined the EIHL.
If we don't make the play off's, it's our own fault.
Age old problem as Waterboy says of playing short benched for so long, that by the time we get to 11 imports (3 or 4 weeks from the end of the season), the rest of the guys are dead on their feet. Look at how many impact guys we had when they were sharp early doors in the year, now they are knackered, that is nobodies fault but ours. Same goes for the training schedules, we seldom appear to look match fit, and that can only be down the training program that is set for the guys. I know some of the Brits have their jobs etc, so OK, maybe they can only train round that, but for the full time guys, there's no excuses, even if it's going onto a public skating session if that's what it takes. They need to be on the ice, almost every day.
I think it is hard to argue we haven't had a better season than last year, that would be folly, however, in terms of success, it has to be measured in results, and position finished. Lose on Tuesday, and I worry that we won't recover, and subsequently the play off's are gone. For me, the Gardiner went a few weeks back, but somehow, we've just about managed to hang on to the tails of the other clubs.
Do I think changes are needed for next year. I can't be more incisive, absolutely yes, changes are needed.
For me the two key changes would be a new Full time bench coach (we were arguably at our best this year with Danny on the bench when he was out injured), and a new, much stricter, fitness regime for all the players.
Tactically this year, we've heard all about the game plan, and sticking to the system, but I don't really see much evidence of what this is, and if, as the coach, the players aren't sticking to the plan, whatever it may be, then bench them. I'd rather have players who are doing as the coach expects (even if it's maybe not right, he's the coach) than players off on their own agenda's. Coach's need to be firm, hard, but fair, it can't be about playing hockey with their pals, that's SNL stuff.
A new bench coach, with clear direction, and someone that has a plan B for when things are going wrong, or to help grind out those dirty wins on the road is what we need. That, coupled with a far more intense fitness plan, and of course, starting with 11 imports on day 1, would see a much improved Fife Flyers, and not one that would be struggling with 4 games left to fight for a play off slot.
The rest of the league has improved big time, we need to install a winning mentality at the club, and that starts with expectations in the boardroom, right down through the core of the organisation. There appears from what I see, and I appreciate this is only my opinion, but it looks like at present, it's a "that will do" attitude. We're happy to be just about hanging on, and that's not right, any sporting club needs winners, giving clear direction about what's acceptable in terms of performances and results, and at the end of the day, if things aren't going to expectation, then changes should be made.
It is however, not the Fife way to make changes, and whilst this mentality exists, sadly, we'll find ourselves year on year, probably not too far away from where we are now.

I'm sorry to say this but Bryan had a terrible night at the office and he knew it. That was the difference last night.

Rumour going around that this will be Todd's last season. I hope not considering all that he has given to the club

I'm sure if you ask him yourself he'll say the same. He's admitted to struggling in the second games of the weekend.

For me, the ideal job for Todd is some kind of Club Ambassador, and maybe being put in charge of the Junior Development program, or Director of Ice Hockey something like that. This would allow Todd to balance Ice Hockey with other work, and personal commitments much more effectively, and I think he'd be an ideal choice to kick start this off. If we had someone of EIHL experience, and a seasoned Import bringing through the next batch of young flyers, with a direct link between junior development and Fife Flyers, this would be a huge step forward. It won't happen overnight, but our long term strategy should involve a program like this. Interesting to see Todd taking the hockey school in April this year too, I thought Danny usually did that, I just wonder if this is a step already being considered by Todd and the club.

Surely as Head Coach, Todd is already that link though? Danny Stewart is working at the Best of British camp in Auchenharvie, which is the same week as the Kirkcaldy one.

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure what the links are between Junior and Senior, I know it had pretty much stopped for a while, but I suspect some of it is back now. Not sure if as Head Coach of the Senior Side, if that automatically gives you involvement in the Juniors though, you'd suspect there wouldn't be time to do everything. Could be wrong though, not sure how it works

How do you know the imports aren't on during the day on some days because I'm pretty sure try are. Like a Friday for example. Not being on the ice every day would not be an excuse for not being fit either. It's not that at all. It's that they play incredible minutes and did more at the start of the year. They'll be totally burnt out. Last night was nothing to do with that though. The ONLY reason Dundee one was Brian's bad day and our lack of finishing/not getting the lucky bounce in front of net. We could have had 5/6 that just didnt go in! I hope we have signed up the bulk of our guys for next year to build on what we currently have. Start with 11 without Todd and Danny(who cost us 3 goals last night - he's been mega poor this season) and I think you'd see an unbelievable difference!
