Hi guys, would like to let you all know about our brand new, starting from scratch Handball team based in Kirkcaldy. We are complete novices and are looking for players of all abilities who want to seriously get involved with setting the club up, another thing we need steady guidance in ;D. Our overall aim is to be ready to begin play in the Scottish Handball League in 1-2 years time, so we need people who want to try a brand new sport or even better, experienced players and also coaching staff. Anyone wanting to get involved, post here and I'll keep regular updates of how we are progressing. Any questions, just ask. Thanks

I would be interested in giving it a bash. I am 50 next month but play floorball twice weekly so I am not a couch potatoe. :-)

Thanks go for it, i started playing last year, it's the best team sport i've played. biggest disappointment is we never had this at school, yet it's bursting at the seems with every playground skill you ever used from tig to british bulldogs to football. there was a first level coaching course in Cumbernauld last September, hopefully another this year which i'll hope to go on, and start coaching kids in primary school and work my way up to high school kids, thats where i'd strongly recommend you recruit from. i know the schools through here loved it but theres a lack of coaches to take it on. good luck in your search, oh and if you've any contacts with the Polish community, speak to them, you'll probably find a dozen players there for starters. could always put an ad in the local Polish shop too.

We are still searching for suitable facilities in Kirkcaldy at the moment, we were hoping Adam Smith College or the new leisure centre, but still going to ring round the schools Community Use departments to see if any of them have goals. Once we have a nucleus of a team we will organise a meeting to form the club proper. Hope to have you on board!

[/quote] Superb! We've been in touch with the SHA and they are so glad a new team from Fife, an area that's never been represented in the league before, are wanting to join! I was hooked as soon as I watched Handball at the Olympics and was inspired enough to try and start my own club. That's also an excellent suggestion regarding advertising within the Polish community, we will have to get on that as a lot of those lads will have been playing Handball most of their lives, it's massive over there so great shout. We are also hoping to ask St Andrews Uni to advertise for players, especially European guys who will be resident over here. It's early days for that though, but the think tank is in full swing lol. A qualified coach would be the first massive step but as you said, there's not many based in Fife, if any at all! Me and my mate Alex would be thinking of going on the coaching courses eventually, so as to help eventually expand into juniors. Would you like to coach us when the time comes? It's just like pulling hens teeth looking for a seasoned coach. The staff at SHA have said they would maybe be able to send out registered coaches on an interim basis to teach us the basics and develop a bunch of complete novices. Thank you for your reply, excellent suggestions and a lot to think about.
