Tonight we look back through Flyers 81 year history for games played on November 16th.
Season 1939/40
Fife Flyers 4 Falkirk Lions 2 League Scottish Points
The Flyers maintained their unbeaten start to the season as they led the league. Red Thomson equalised before George Horn and Paul Rheault extended the Flyers lead. Rheault scored again late on to seal the win.
Season 1948/49
Paisley Pirates 9 Fife Flyers 3 Canada Cup
The Flyers second visit to the West this season and another defeat. A heavy defeat at that against a Pirates side who iced 4 juniors in their line up. Scrutton had the visitors ahead who then shipped the next six goals before Mann scored with a penalty shot. Mann got his second early in the third but there was never any inclination of a comeback.
Season 1950/51
Fife Flyers 2 Perth Panthers 4 Canada Cup
The Panthers were becoming the Flyers bogey team as they notched up their third win against the Fifers this season, no other team had beaten them more than once. Flyers were ahead after only 17 second when Lee Thorne scored and they doubled their lead with an Archie Williams goal only for Panthers to strike before the period break. Despite outshooting their visitors Flyers couldn’t find a way past Siemon.
Season 1968/69
Fife Flyers 2 Paisley Mohawks 13 Autumn Cup
The Flyers continued their winless start to the season as the Mohawks battled at the top of the Autumn Cup table with the Murrayfield Racers. Joe Baird got both goals.
Season 1974/75
Scotland 3 England 5 International
This was the first international to be staged in Kirkcaldy since 1947 when Scotland lost 2-9. Since then the Scots had not lost on home ice to the English until this game. Talk about a bogey rink!
Season 1975/76
Murrayfield Racers 5 Fife Flyers 6 Autumn Cup
With the Flyers battling with Durham Wasps at the top of the Autumn Cup table the last minute winner from Law Lovell, his fourth of the game, was arguably the goal that eventually had Fife as group winner. Fife’s other scorers were McIntosh and Les Lovell.
Season 1985/86
Peterborough Pirates 6 Fife Flyers 12 Heineken Premier League
The Flyers remained unbeaten in the league and took control of a game they outshot Pirates in 55-32 from the first period with a Bidner double and goal from Abel. Brown then had a second period hat trick to maintain their three goal lead before they doubled up in the third with another Brown hat trick another double from Bidner and one from Cottrell.
Season 1986/87
Murrayfield Racers 14 Fife Flyers 2 Heineken Premier League
This was the Flyers biggest ever Heineken league defeat to-date and came 24 hours after their loss to the Panthers in the Norwich Union Cup final at the NEC in Birmingham. The Racers reached double figures by the time Stoyanovich claimed the first of his double on the PP. Andy Linton returned to the ice for the first time since the accident that cost him his sight in his left eye.
Season 1991/92
Fife Flyers 9 Blackburn Blackhawks 4 Heineken Division One
Fife fired 67 shots on the Blackhawks keeper John Dunford but had to come from behind after the first period to maintain their top spot against the visitors 12 skaters. Millie and Laplante notched hat tricks with Land, S King and Morris completing the scoring.
Season 1996/97
Fife Flyers 7 Blackburn Hawks 3 Northern Premier League
Flyers notched up a 14th straight victory against a Hawks side who were coached by Jimmy Pennycook and had ex Flyers Neil Abel and Colin Downie in their ranks. Winning the opening period 3-0 allowed the Flyers to ease through the rest of the game. Morris 3, Parent 2, Morrison and Finlay.
Season 2002/03
Fife Flyers 6 Newcastle Vipers 2 British National League
Frank Evans (below) returned to the Flyers after six years and the Flyers pretty much had this one wrapped up after the opening period when they led 3-0. Biette 2, Dutiaume, Dailey, Haig and Roberts were the scorers.
Season 2003/04
Newcastle Vipers 3 Fife Flyers 2 Findus Cup
The Flyers trailed by a single goal margin after the first leg of this Findus Cup semi-final with all of the goals coming in the middle period. It was ex-Flyer Jonathon Weaver who scored a hat trick with Fife replying through Dutiaume and Goneau.
Season 2004/05
Fife Flyers 4 Newcastle Vipers 1 British National League
A welcome win for the Flyers against a Vipers side yet to register a point in the BNL. S King, Dutiaume and Saul had them 3-0 ahead after one. Biette missed a penalty shot before Morrison completed the scoring.
Season 2008/09
Whitley Warriors 3 Fife Flyers 4 OT Northern League
Flyers hit the top of the Northern League with their hosts bottom after a half a dozen games. Missing a number of key players the Flyers were taken to the wire. Behind three times they got goals from Dutiaume, Wands and Bell before Dutiaume scored 1:04 into overtime.
Season 2013/14
Fife Flyers 4 Dundee Stars 2 Challenge Cup
Flyers finally got the better of the Stars this season at the fifth time of asking in a “dead rubber” qualification match. The Flyers came from behind twice with goals from Stewart, Fulton, Reber and Gunn.
Season 2014/15
Edinburgh Capitals 4 Fife Flyers 3 EIHL
Tough loss for the Flyers with the winner coming just 10 seconds from the end. Matt Reber levelled in the first, and they went ahead early in the second through Scott Fleming before Bobby Chaumont levelled at 3-3 in the third. Fleming hit a post before the Caps got their winner.

Tonight we look back through Flyers 81 year history for games played on November 23rd.
Season 1939/40
Fife Flyers 4 Dundee Tigers 3 League Scottish Points
Once again Paul Rheault was the Flyers man of the match with a hat trick as a stuffy Tigers effort failed to topple the flyers from the top of the table. Arnie Pratt’s goal in the final period proved to be the game winner.
Season 1950/51
Fife Flyers 4 Dunfermline Vikings 7 Canada Cup
The Vikings were leaders in the competition and left Kirkcaldy with both points in a somewhat flattering victory. Fife were 4-3 ahead going into the third but completely collapsed in the final seven minutes when they conceded 4 goals. Scotty Reid, Marsh Bentley Floyd Snider and Bert Smith were the scorers.
Season 1963/64
Wembley Lions 8 Fife Flyers 4 London Tournament
Billed in the programme as the Lions stiffest test so far this season the Flyers were ahead 3-2 at the end of the first period. The Lions lead by one going into the third and kept the Flyers off the scoreboard to net three of their own. Goals from Ian Forbes, Graeme Farrell and a double from Jimmy Spence.
Season 1968/69
Fife Flyers 2 RCAF Three Wing Flyers 2 Challenge Match
The Three Wing Flyers Royal Canadian Airforce side based in Germany managed by Gerry Walker visited for a Saturday afternoon match which was televised live on Grandstand. A number of guests for the Flyers included, Bob Stevenson Glasgow Dynamos, Paisley Mohawks Alistair and Billy Brennan and Gerry Hudson who was coaching on the continent. Hudson and Sammy McDonald were the scorers.
Season 1977/78
Murrayfield Racers 1 Fife Flyers 3 Slapshot Trophy
This game was arranged in conjunction with the movie Slapshot which was being shown around the country in cinemas. STV Scotsport cameras were in attendance for the game to be shown on Boxing Day. Yes you couldn’t make that up. There were no pugilistic scenes and the Flyers took the one off trophy with goals from Les Lovell, Gordon Latto and Ally Brennan.
Season 1985/86
Fife Flyers 7 Ayr Bruins 8 Heineken Premier League
As British Champions the Flyers were finding it increasingly more competitive as teams wanted to knock them off their perch. The Bruins ended their unbeaten home record in the Heineken League during the ‘Plumb era’. Flyers lead 4-2 midway through but then lost 6 without reply. Linton 2, Plumb 2 and a Brown hat trick were the Fife scorers.
1986/87
Durham Wasps 8 Fife Flyers 6 Heineken Premier League
Flyers were looking to rise from the bottom of the Premier League table and it all looked positive after 40 minutes as they led 4-2 with goals from Mike Jeffrey 2, Dean Edmiston and Gordon Goodsir. Injuries to Goodsir and Drummond and the loss if Jeffrey to a 10 minute penalty saw Wasps fire 5 without reply. Jimmy Pennycook briefly stopped the rot but Edmiston’s second was a mere consolation. Following the game the Flyers three imports, Sims, Stoyanovich and Jeffrey were all given a vote of confidence by the board of KIHC.
Season 1991/92
Fife Flyers 12 Basingstoke Beavers 6 Heineken Division One
In a twist of fate, Beavers goalie Matassa was Blackburns goalie before moving south ahead of the Flyers demolition of the Blackhawks the previous week, Matassa however fared little better with the Beavers and after conceding 5 in just over 3 minutes he was hooked. Morris 4, Millie 3, Laplante, Brown, B Haig, Land and J Haig were all on target.
Season 1996/97
Fife Flyers 10 Castlereagh Knights 3 Northern Premier League
Flyers didn’t overcome their Northern Irish visitors until a 6-1 final period blitz. The Knights who were bottom of the league tied the opening period 2-2 after scoring twice in the opening three minutes. The Flyers goals came from Morrison 5, Maxwell 2, Morris, Samuel and Parent,
Season 1997/98
Kingston Hawks 1 Fife Flyers 0 British National League
The Flyers would be forgiven for having nightmares about the Hawks Finnish netminder Pasi Raitenan who for the second consecutive night stymied the Flyers attack. For the 5th time in six games between these two sides the game was decided by an odd goal. The only goal in this one came 5 minutes from time from Michael Knights.
Season 2003/04
Edinburgh Capitals 3 Fife Flyers 3 Caledonian Cup
Having the disappointment of losing in the Findus Cup semi on penalty shots the previous evening and despite fielding a young team the Flyers maintained their unbeaten run in the competition with goals from Steven King, Paul Spadafora and Todd Dutiaume.
Season 2008/09
Dundalk Bulls 3 Fife Flyers 7 Celtic Cup
The second of the Flyers games in Ireland saw them close to within a point of leaders Dundee in the Celtic Cup. Dutiaume ran rampant with 4 goals with Wilson, Gunn and Lynch also on target.
Season 2013/14
Braehead Clan 7 Fife Flyers 4 EIHL & Challenge Cup
It was four crucial points that slipped away from the Flyers despite goals from Jordan Fulton and debutant Kyle Haines giving them an early lead. Tim Hartung levelled at 3 each in the second but Clan pulled away with another Haines goal a mere consolation. Matt Nickerson and Chris Frank entertained the crowd in their inimitable style.

Fife Flyers 6 Ayr Raiders 5 League Scottish Points
A game that had six different Flyers scorers and was decided by Paul Rheault’s strike in the final minute, other scorers were Pratt, Thomson, McInroy, Morrison and Horn.
Season 1946/47
Perth Panthers 5 Fife Flyers 3 National League
This was a thrilling encounter with the Panthers going ahead 3-0 in the first to be pegged back with goals from Bob Lantz and Harry O’Connor. Panthers extended their lead with another couple before Earl McCrone got a late consolation.
Season 1950/51
Fife Flyers 7 Falkirk Lions 2 National League
Lions came to Kirkcaldy having released all but 5 of their Canadian imports citing that their Juniors would at least “put some effort in”. Season 1996/97
Fife Flyers 7 Murrayfield Royals 5 Northern Premier League
The talking point was the ejection of Frank Morris on a gross misconduct for alleged gestures to the Royals fans which left him facing a 6 game suspension. Goals from Morrison 3, Morris 3 and Maxwell.
Season 2002/03
Solihull Kings 4 Fife Flyers 2 British National League
Flyers were short benched and faced former on loan player Jeff Trembecky. Morris and Dutiaume were scorers as Flyers were always behind to the bottom placed club.
Season 2003/04
Edinburgh Capitals 4 Fife Flyers 3 OT British National League
Flyers came from behind to lead the game but were forced into overtime by a late Capitals equaliser before being denied both points by, who else, Tony Hand. John Haig, Dan Goneau and Greg Kuznik were on target.
Season 2004/05
Fife Flyers 3 Guildford Flames 4 Winter Cup
Despite going ahead 2-0 the Flyers surrendered the points as the Flames took advantage of some very sloppy play in the middle period to take the lead. Despite outshooting their guests 44-21 goals from Dutiaume, Volk and Biette were not enough.
Season 2008/09
Dundee Stars 6 Fife Flyers 4
Stars gained revenge for the previous nights’ reversal at Kirkcaldy. Steven King got a hat trick before fighting with Stars net minder Moffat with Nicholson the other scorer.
Season 2013/14
Fife Flyers 2 Coventry Blaze 4 EIHL
Despite outshooting the Blaze the visitors were well worthy of both points against a Flyers side with no real cutting edge. Wilson and Roehl were scorers.
Dec 1st

Fife Flyers 6 Kelvingrove 4 League Sottish Points
The lead exchanged hands four times before the Flyers eventually got their noses in front in the third period. A Jimmy Chappell hat trick with singles from Horn, Lovell and McCartney.
Season 1948/49
Ayr Raiders 7 Fife Flyers 4 Canada Cup
Flyers fell to another road defeat in the Canada Cup as the Flyers goalie Pete Belanger had a night he would want to forget. Not many of the Flyers were on their game though. Flyers goals came from a Moreland double and singles from Scrutton and Mann.
Season 1949/50
Fife Flyers 11 Paisley Pirates 4 Canada Cup
Flyers remained unbeaten at home in the Canada Cup against a poor Pirates outfit who actually took the lead and were tied 3-3 at one stage. The scorers were: Greger, Smith, McCrone, Mann 3, Vanier 2, Bentley 3
Season 1963/64
Fife Flyers 13 Perth Blackhawks 2 Scottish League
Law Lovell made his Flyers debut and scored one of the goals. Forbes and Spence scored 4 each, a double from Young with McDonald and Farrell a goal each.
Season 1973/74
Flyers Select 1 London Lions 10 Challenge Match
A lopsided Challenge match which was described as the “fully professional Lions v enthusiastic amateurs”. Law Lovell got the consolation goal.
Season 1979/80
Fife Flyers 10 Durham Wasps 4 Northern League
Eddie Haggerty made his Flyers debut and scored only to lose his life the following week in a car accident. Veteran Wasps goalie, Derek Metcalfe was taken to the Victoria Hospital during the game having suffered a heart attack. Jack 4, McLellan 2 Linton, G Latto and Cottrell with the other goals.
Season 1984/85
Fife Flyers 4 Durham Wasps 6 BlueCol Cup Final @streatham

Season 1985/86
Dundee Rockets 1 Fife Flyers 12 Heineken Premier League
Flyers ended a run of 3 straight defeats in what was regarded as their best performance of the season so far. By the end of the second they were ahead 6-0 and doubled their tally in the third period. Goals from Bidner 4, Brown 5, Goodsir, McLellan and Kinmond.
Season 1990/91
Fife Flyers 4 Durham Wasps 7 Heineken Premier League

Season 1991/92
Basingstoke Beavers 11 Fife Flyers 9 Heineken Division One
The Flyers were 8-4 ahead after two and their collapse surrendered a 14 game winning run. Goals from Morris 3, Laplante 2, Millie 2, Robertson and Abel.
Season 1996/97
Murrayfield Royals 1 Fife Flyers 8 Northern Premier League
Flyers without the suspended Frank Morris easily disposed of the Royals who slipped to the bottom of the league. Scorers were S King 2, Parent 2, Morrison 2, Maxwell and Dingwall.
Season 2001/02
Paisley Pirates 2 Fife flyers 5 British National League

Season 2007/08
Solway Sharks 3 Fife Flyers 4 OT Northern Premier League
Sharks came mighty close to toppling the league leaders who were kept in check on the smaller ice pad. Wands opened the scoring in the first and despite out shooting Sharks 17-8 in the second they went in tied. Lynch netted twice in the third before his OT winner.
Season 2013/14

Tonight we look back through Flyers 81 year history for games played on December 8th.
Season 1938/39
Fife Flyers 2 Dundee Tigers 2 League Scottish Points
It was a point saved by the Flyers but only just. The Tigers scored a couple in the first and in a dour encounter it looked for long spells as though the points would be going back over the Tay. Les Lovell and Jimmy Chappell however scored in the third as the Flyers eventually showed some sparkle in their play.
Season 1949/50
Fife Flyers 3 Dunfermline Vikings 1 Canada Cup
A less than inspired performance by the Flyers but a win that put them within touching distance of winning the Canada Cup. Marsh Bentley scored a double with the other from Scotty Reid.
Season 1954/55
Falkirk Lions 11 Fife Flyers 2 Autumn Cup
Falkirk secured second spot in the Autumn Cup in their last game of the competition. For the Flyers it was a familiar story away from Kirkcaldy where they had only secured two wins, both against English opposition in the shape of the Nottingham Panthers and Brighton Tigers. Hemmerling and Thrasher got the Fife goals.
Season 1962/63
Ayr Rangers 3 Fife Flyers 1 Challenge Match
Season 1963/64
Fife Flyers 15 Ayr Rangers 4 Scottish League
Flyers retained their 100% record in the Scottish League and handed last season’s Scottish Champions yet another double digit defeat. ‘Pinky’ Farrell top scored with four goals. Law Lovell and Jimmy Spence both scored hat tricks. There were doubles from Ian Forbes and Sammy McDonald and Verne Greger completed the scoring.
Season 1973/74
Fife Flyers 6 Dundee Rockets 8 Northern League
The Flyers suffered a shock home set back in the league to the Rockets, their first dropped points of the campaign. Les Lovell bagged a hat trick and there were also goals from Law Lovell, Reggie Smith and Kenny Horne.
Season 1974/75
Whitley Warriors 6 Fife Flyers 6 Autumn Cup
The Warriors were left rueing missed chances as they allowed their visitors to nick a point with an equalising goal coming just two seconds from the buzzer. Les Lovell again lead the way with three goals, whilst Lawrie Lovell, Jimmy Jack and Kenny Horne also found the net.
Season 1979/80
Fife Flyers 7 Aviemore Blackhawks 3 League
The crowd observed a minutes silence before the match to remember 17 year old Eddie Haggerty who had been killed in a car crash in the early hours of Saturday morning, a week after making his debut for the team. Murray McClelland, Gordon Latto, Charlie Kinmond, Jimmy Jack and a double from Chic Cottrell saw the Flyers register an expected win.
Season 1984/85
Fife Flyers 11 Streatham Redskins 5 Heineken Premier League
The Flyers eventually managed to shatter the hoodoo that the Redskins had over them. It was the Flyers first win over the London club since the set up of the British League three years ago. It was the dynamic duo of Brown and Stoyanovich who naturally did most of the damage, Danny with five and Stoy with four. Murray McLellan and Gordon Latto also netted for the Flyers who lost Dougie Latto early on as he fell awkwardly into the boards and was carried from the ice, on his way to hospital, using two hockey sticks.
Season 1990/91
Fife Flyers 8 Whitley Warriors 5 Heineken Premier League
Warriors one spot below the Flyers in second bottom were 3-1 down after the first and battled back to level at 4-4 after the second. A strong third period by the Flyers secured the points with Doubles from Bobby Haig, David Smith and Steve Gatzos and singles from Paul Hand and Iain Robertson.
Season 1996/97
Dumfries Border Vikings 5 Fife Flyers 9 Northern Premier League
Flyers were now 22 games into the league season and with only two defeats to their name. The Vikings were under strength and missing coach Neil Smith but even a sub standard Flyers performance was more than enough. Morrison scored 4 with S King 2 Samuel, Wilson and Finlay also on target.
Season 2001/02
Fife Flyers 7 Guildford Flames 3 British National League
Regarded in years gone by as the fixture most likely to determine the outcome of the league the Flyers got a much need win against mid table Flames to maintain an outside chance of catching Dundee and Coventry. Morrison 3, Morris, Monteith, S King and Biette were scorers.
Season 2002/03
Guildford Flames 5 Fife Flyers 2 British National League
Missing Morrison, Biette and D King the Flyers handed Scott Campbell a road debut and also added Forsyth but were never likely to take any points from the Spectrum. The Flames were 4-0 ahead after two before Morris and J Haig scored in the last period to suggest a comeback before losing the fifth goal.
Season 2007/08
Fife Flyers 7 Blackburn Hawks 1 Northern League
Flyers top of the league but home crowds demonstrated a distinct lack of interest in this level of hockey. The first period was tied with S King getting the goal but the Flyers were able to pull away with four goals in the final period to an easy victory. S King again, Samuel 2 Dutiaume, Gunn and Glasgow the scorers.
Season 2012/13
Fife Flyers 4 Belfast Giants 1 EIHL
A fine win for the Flyers against a Giants side that were challenging league leading Nottingham Panthers. This was the birth of the “PacktheBarn” promotion which resulted in 1600 being on hand and the Flyers responded to the extra noise from the stands. A Jason Pitton (below) hat trick and Casey Haines replying after Giants had taken the lead.
Season 2013/14
Coventry Blaze 4 Fife Flyers 7 EIHL
Flyers produced one of their best ever periods of hockey in the EIHL era as they scored five unanswered to break their SkyDome hoodoo to secure their first ever points in the Midlands to move them off the bottom of the table. Chaumont with 3 in the final period top scored, Roehl 2, Gunn and Hartung were also on target
Season 2018/19
Fife Flyers 5 Coventry Blaze 2 EIHL
Carlo Finucci opened the scoring after three minutes but Blaze were level by the break. A dominant middle period saw the Flyers stretch into the lead with goals from Bloodoff, Birzins and his first in the league by Jordan Buesa. A Lake goal late on allowed the Blaze to pull their goalie but the Flyers salted the win with a Stoflet empty netter.

Tonight we look back through Flyers 81 year history for games played on December 15th.
Season 1938/39
Fife Flyers 4 Glasgow Mohawks 1 League Scottish Points
Flyers continued to climb in the league standings with this win which put them just a point behind the Dundee Tigers, who had played one more game, and the Falkirk Lions. Alec Fullerton and Jimmy Chappell goals in the first period before the Mohawks reduced arrears in the middle session. Chappell again and George Horn made sure of the points in the third.
Season 1949/50
Fife Flyers 6 Ayr Raiders 0 Canada Cup
The Flyers secured the Canada Cup with this win and were never pushed at all as Pete Belanger (below left) secured his second shut out of the season. Doubles from Earl McCrone and Floyd Snider (below right) were added to by Johnny Vanier and Jimmy Mitchell.
Season 1963/64
Fife Flyers 8 Paisley Mohawks 2 Scottish League
Flyers remained unbeaten on the season against Scottish opponents and once again Jimmy Spence was the man to fill the visitors net. He bagged a double hat trick with Law Lovell and Joe McIntosh completing the scoring.
Season 1974/75
Paisley Mohawks P Fife Flyers P Autumn Cup
Cancelled as ice machine broke down at Crossmyloof Ice Rink.
Season 1979/80
Fife Flyers 7 Glasgow Dynamos 5 Northern League
The Flyers and Dynamos proved to be evenly matched teams throughout the season as they shared their four game series. In this one the Flyers had a double from Charlie Kinmond and singles from Gordon and Dougie Latto, Rab Petrie, Allan Anderson and Murray McLellan to secure the win.
Season 1984/85
Southampton Vikings 4 Fife Flyers 12 Heineken League
Flyers outshot their hosts 76-19 on the way to an easy road win. The game was being played in Oxford and Plumb hit his fist hat trick for the Flyers. Dave Stoyanovich weighed in with 4, Neil Abel a double and unusually Danny Brown just the one goal.
Season 1985/86
Durham Wasps 8 Fife Flyers 5 Heineken Premier League
The Flyers and Wasps were both playing catch up on league leaders the Murrayfield Racers and in a frantic opening period they shared 9 goals. The homeside however crucially were able to put 6 past Dickson on 11 shots to cancel out a double from Brown and one from Plumb. The Wasps went further ahead with the next two goals before Bidner and then Brown for his hat trick completed the scoring.
Season 1990/91
Nottingham Panthers 5 Fife Flyers 5 Heineken Premier League
The Flyers who were chasing the Panthers for 7th spot in the league had to settle for a share of the points but did so by coming from a goal down after the 2nd period. Les Millie with two, Steve Gatzos, Neil Abel and Bobby Haig were the scorers.
Season 1996/97
Fife Flyers 6 Dumfries Border Vikings 1 Northern Premier League
There were some doubts about the Dumfries side being able to fulfil the fixture and as a result a smaller than normal crowd, still around 1500 turned up to see another lopsided win. Mark Morrison with the hat trick, Andy Samuel a double and another from Jamie Wilson.
Season 2001/02
Fife Flyers 8 Cardiff Devils 0 British National League
This was never going to be a match that featured in the season highlights as the Welsh side sat bottom of the table and were easily swept aside. Silver and Grubb shared a 10 shot shut out. Morris 2, Robertson, Dutiaume, D King, S King, Wishart, Morrison were all on target for the Flyers.
Season 2002/03
Cardiff Devils 4 Fife Flyers 1 British National League
What a difference a year makes, the Devils were still building but no longer the whipping boys of the league. The Flyers were still short of bodies and essentially both sides played two line hockey. Jason Dailey (below) got the Flyers on the board in the second period but Devils didn’t ever look like surrendering their three goal lead.
Season 2007/08
Fife Flyers 5 Paisley Pirates 2 Northern League
Flyers continued to set the pace at the top of the table and were now 12 wins from 12 as they put all the goals on the board in the first two periods before Pirates put a better reflection on the scoreline in the third. S King, Wands, McAlpine, Dutiaume and Samuel with the goals. On front of barely 500 fans.
Season 2012/13
Coventry Blaze 6 Fife Flyers 3 EIHL
This was the Flyers 10th straight defeat at the SkyDome. They lost the opening goal 5 seconds before the period break but early in the 2nd Bobby Chaumont equalised. Further goals from Jason Pitton in the second and then Kris Hogg early in the third tied the scores but the visitors couldn’t maintain the pace as Blaze found the net another three times.
Season 2018/19
Fife Flyers 3 Guildford Flames 1 EIHL
Yet another close encounter between these two teams and the crowd had to wait until 5 minutes into the final period before the scoreboard flickered into life when Crowder netted. Bari McKenzie looked to have sealed the win with 9 minutes to go but the Flyers were made to sweat things out in the final five minutes after a Watters goal. Bulmer iced the win with an empty net goal with 90 seconds remaining.

Flyers were minus three regulars and played only two reserves but put a up a grand fight in this challenge match. Alec McKendrick from Trail Smoke-Eaters guested in nets for the homeside who got goals from Lovell, Horne and two from McQuade.
Season 1947/48
Dunfermline Vikings 9 Fife Flyers 6 National League
Flyers were on the board after 30 seconds but never recovered from losing 3 goals in 90 seconds late in the first period. Scrutton bagged 4 with Fowler and O’Rourke also on target.
Season 1952/53
Murrayfield Royals 1 Fife Flyers 3 National League
Three games into the campaign and Flyers got their first National League points. Harold ‘Pep’ Young, Bobbie Burns and Marlowe MacDonald were the scorers.
Season 1963/64
Fife Flyers 19 Glasgow Flyers 1 Scottish League
Charlie Huddleston was said to have faced about 100 shots. Spence with 8 (shares the record for most goals in a game by a British player), Forbes 3, McDonald 3, Farrell, Lovell 2, Jimmy Watson, McIntosh. Flyers netted 4 in 40 seconds in 2nd period.
Season 1973/74
Fife Flyers 6 Murrayfield Racers 6 Northern League
Both teams were chasing Whitley Warriors at the top of the league and a result that did neither a favour. Doubles form Ally Brennan, Law Lovell and Reggie Smith.
Season 1984/85
Fife Flyers 22 Southampton Vikings 5 Heineken League
The history books were rewritten as Dave Stoyanovich notched 13 goals against the hapless Vikings. The game was also notable as the debuts for three 15 year olds, Bobby Haig, Scott O’Connor and Dean Edmiston. As the game progressed the Flyers sensed that Roy Halpins record of 14 goals could be broken but Stoyanovich came up one short when he netted his 13th (which included 5 short handed goals) with just 30 seconds remaining (below) with the Flyers pulling the goalie. Other goals came from Brown 3, Abel 2, Plumb 2, Cottrell and Linton.
Season 1990/91
Fife Flyers 5 Cardiff Devils 8 Heineken Premier League
Fife were 3-1 ahead after the first period but were blown away 5-1 in the second by the Devils who didn’t let up in the third. A Gatzos double with singles from Smith, Darcy Cahill (on his home debut) and Haig.
Season 1991/92
Romford Raiders 2 Fife Flyers 13 Heineken Division One
After crushing title challengers Slough Jets 18-6 the previous night the Flyers completed a highly satisfactory road double header with another emphatic win. 6 nil ahead after the first there was never any doubt about the result. Scorers were Morris 4, J Haig 3, Laplante 2, Brown 2, Millie 2
Season 2001/02
Cardiff Devils 0 Fife Flyers 17 British National League
A scoreline that seems incredible in today’s era, the Flyers were ruthless against a Devils side icing only 2 imports. Morrison was back in Canada for Christmas but Flyers rolled 3 lines and they scored 9 times from 10 shots in the 2nd period. Scorers were M Dutiaume 3, Biette 2, Monteith 2, S King 2, Robertson 2, Wishart, Morris 3, T Dutiaume 2.
Season 2012/13
Nottingham Panthers 7 Fife Flyers 1 EIHL
The league leading Panthers inflicted the Flyers heaviest defeat so far of the season and their 10th straight away defeat. Caisey Haines scored the consolation mid-way through.
Season 2013/14
Fife Flyers 5 Hull Stingrays 3 EIHL
Stingrays arrived with only 13 skaters and after a goalless first period the Flyers were ahead 4-2 after the second to then see the game out carefully. Chaumont 3, Fulton and a Roehl empty netter with 3 seconds left sealed it.
Season 2017/18
Dundee Stars 4 Fife Flyers 2 EIHL
Stars went 3 for 5 on the PP, Flyers were 0 for 8 which was the difference in this one. Bloodoff short handed and a late Liam Heelis consolation.
Season 2018/19
Fife Flyers 2 Glasgow Clan 3 EIHL
Joe Basaraba gave the Flyers an early lead but Clan scored the next 3 and Basaraba’s second into the empty net was just a consolation.

Tonight we look back through Flyers 81 year history for games played on December 28th.
Season 1939/40
Fife Flyers 6 Dundee Tigers 6 League Scottish Points
The Flyers were three down in the fist period but fought back to salvage a point but this was not enough to prevent the Perth Panthers claiming the Scottish Points title. Doubles for Rheault and Horn with Pratt and Morrison the other scorers.
Season 1946/47
Perth Panthers 9 Fife Flyers 3 National League
The league leading Panthers scored seven in the third period to assert their superiority. It was a hotly disputed fourth Panthers goal that tipped the game as the whole Flyers bench came onto the ice to remonstrate with the goal judge and fights broke out. Snider, O’Connor and McCrone were the scorers.
Season 1950/51
Fife Flyers 1 Dunfermline Vikings 3 National League
Flyers took the lead in fortunate circumstances when Bentley’s shot was deflected into the net. Vikings then took the lead and in a frantic finish with Belanger pulled they sealed it with an empty net goal.
Season 1951/52
Ayr Raiders 7 Fife Flyers 3 National League
Raiders had won their previous 5 against the Flyers so this was very much a shock result. Vanier with a hat trick, two from Kewley and singles from Snider and Linnell.
Season 1974/75
Fife Flyers 13 Paisley Mohawks 5 Autumn Cup
The Lovell brothers combined for nine goals, Les with 5, Lawrie 4. The other Fife scorers were Alex Churchill, Gordon Latto, Kenny Horne and Jimmy Hunter.
Season 1993/94
Murrayfield Racers 7 Fife Flyers 4 British Premier League
Flyers run of 10 unbeaten came to a shuddering halt in the Forth derby defeat. Smith, Morrison and a double for Robertson were the Fife scorers.
Season 1999/00
Fife Flyers 4 Peterborough Pirates 5 Christmas Cup Q/F 2nd leg
The Flyers were ahead 4-2 from the away leg and then unbelievably 5-0 down after the first period in this one. The Flyers kept the heid whilst in typical fashion the Pirates didn’t and Haig and a double from Monteith were the prelude for the eventual decider of the tie from Ted Russell with 7 minutes to go.
Season 2002/03
Fife Flyers 1 Dundee Stars 4 British National League
Stars were chasing Coventry at the top of the league and continued their dominance over Fife this season. S King got the Flyers goal in the first but they rarely threatened the Dundee goal for the remainder of the game.
Season 2003/04
Dundee Stars 3 Fife Flyers 5 British National League
Flyers opened up a seven point gap against their nearest rivals. Dan Goneau helped himself to a treble after Biette and a rare Kyle Horne goal had the Flyers ahead after the first period.
Season 2005/06
Billingham Bombers 3 Fife Flyers 5 Northern League
It took an amazing third period come back to preserve their unbeaten league record. From 3-1 down they got goals from Wilson 2, Holmes and Nicholson to win it with the earlier counter from Gunn.
Season 2006/07
Fife Flyers 17 Paisley Pirates 2 Scottish National League
As one sided as the score suggests, S King 3, G Latto 2, Wands 2, Samuel 3, Haig 3, R Latto, McAlpine, Gunn 2 were the scorers.
Season 2008/09
Whitley Warriors 2 Fife Flyers 3 OT Northern League
On consecutive nights the Flyers were taken to OT but this time came out on top. Glasgow and McIntyre put them 2-0 up but Warriors forced OT before Glasgow netted winner.
Season 2013/14
Fife Flyers 1 Dundee Stars 4 EIHL
Lack of a cutting edge again for the Flyers who although generating lots of effort only had a Chaumont goal to show for it and Stars ground out their road win.
Season 2016/17
Dundee Stars 3 Fife Flyers 5 EIHL
A four goal first period had the Flyers on easy street. Goals from Sisca, Jackman, Finucci and a double from Turon.

Tonight we look back through Flyers 81 year history for games played on January 4th.
Season 1938/39
Falkirk Lions 4 Fife Flyers 2 League Scottish Points
The Lions swept their way to the league championship in what was a great tussle with the Flyers. The hosts took a 3 goal lead before Len McCartney and Jimmy Chappell scored to set up a tense closing before the Lions sealed it.
Season 1939/40
Fife Flyers 2 Ayr Raiders 2 League Scottish Points
The Flyers got an undeserved share of the points with both goals from players on loan. Norman McQuade from the Dunfermline Vikings who was replacing Paul Rheault and Lou Savoie from the Falkirk Lions who was deputising for Arnie Pratt got the goals.
Season 1949/50
Ayr Raiders 1 Fife Flyers 2 National League
All the action came in the final session after a strong performance from Belanger in the Fife goal had set them up for a come from behind win. Mitchell equalised and Dinardo scored the winner before a free for all ensued and Flyers held firm with the Raiders goalie Erion pulled in the closing minute.
Season 1950/51
Fife Flyers 2 Ayr Raiders 2 National League
It was a lifeless Flyers performance against a Raiders side who were content to sit back and play a negative brand of hockey that frustrated the home fans. Moe Fife deflected a Bentley shot past his own keeper to put the Flyers in front. Ayr scored a double in less than a minute and Williams got the Flyers equaliser but they couldn’t find a creative touch to get the winner.
Season 1953/54
Ayr Raiders 2 Fife Flyers 3 National League
Flyers recorded their first win in the National League but still remained bottom of the table afterwards. Jimmy Linnell was on trial for the Flyers against his old club but it was goals from Fred Kentner, Murray Banks and Scotty Dowle that won the points.
Season 1985/86
Fife Flyers 16 Glasgow Dynamos 3 Scottish Cup
The Dynamos arrived late to Kirkcaldy in blizzard conditions and then were buried by an avalanche of goals by the homeside. The Flyers easily maintained their 100 record in the competition. The goal scorers were Stuart Drummond 2, Ron Plumb 4, Todd Bidner 5, Gordon Latto, Chic Cottrell 2 and Danny Brown 2.
Season 1986/97
Solihull Barons 8 Fife Flyers 11 Heineken Premier League
Solihull were ahead 4-2 thanks to 3 in 90 seconds but destroyed themselves with penalties as Fife scored 8 straight power plays. The goals came from Stoyanovich 4, Sims 3 (below), Pennycook 2, Latto and Kinmond.
Season 1991/92
Fife Flyers 14 Lee Valley Lions 5 Heineken First Division
Yet another monumental mis match as Fife maintained their four point advantage over Slough at the top of the table. Ten Fife skaters registered 23 assists from the 14 goals off 52 shots most of which were faced by Jim Graves (he of Rockies bar in Belfast fame until very recently). The scorers were: Brown 2, Robertson 3, Morris 2, Laplante 3, Millie 2, J Haig and Wilson.
Season 1993/94
Fife Flyers 7 Murrayfield Racers 6 Heineken Premier League
In another high drama, high tension Forth derby the Flyers just edged past the Racers in front of 3100 fans. The tensions spilled over into the stands as the game was halted after objects were thrown onto the ice from sections B & C. The Racers were 3-0 up in under 12 minutes but would trail 4-3 at the end of the first with S King, Robertson, Kummu and Morrison scoring. Neil Smith kept the Flyers in front with a middle period goal and the sides shared four goals in the final period with Morrison completing his hat trick to cancel a Morris SHG and enough to keep them in from when Laplante netted with 30 seconds remaining.
Season 1996/97
Fife Flyers 18 Castlereagh Knights 5 Northern Premier League
Flyers biggest win so far in the season against a hapless Knights team who conceded goals to 10 different Flyers. Frank Morris 4, Andy Samuel 3, Richard Dingwall 3, John Haig 2, Mark Morrison, Steven King, Russ Parent, Derek King, John Reid and Daryl Venters,
Season 1999/00
Fife Flyers 5 Milton Keynes Kings 1 Christmas Cup Semi 2nd leg
The Flyers were not to repeat their first period performance of the last round against the Pirates when once again they returned from the first leg with a lead. Three goals ahead they added another four without reply in the first to kill this tie and eased their way through the remaining 40 minutes. Morrison, Morris, Dutiaume, S King and Monteith (below) were all on target.
Season 2002/03
Fife Flyers 3 Solihull Kings 0 British National League
A much needed win for the Flyers in a match that was less than memorable. Solihull looked like a side at the bottom of the league waiting for their season to end. Briere recorded his 2nd shutout of the season and goals came in each period from Frank Evans, Steven King and Karry Biette.
Season 2003/04
Guildford Flames 2 Fife Flyers 4 British National League
Flyers were now 8 points clear at the top of the league but lost Ian Fletcher to a leg injury on his first shift. Paul Spadafora gave the visitors an early lead before Kyle Horne netted, his 2nd in 3 games. The Flames battled back to tie things up but Karry Biette got the GWG before it was sealed in the last minute with an empty netter from Todd Dutiaume.
Season 2013/14
Fife Flyers 1 Edinburgh Capitals 3 EIHL
This bottom of the table clash saw the Capitals swap positions with the Flyers now rooted at the basement. Leading after the first with a Kyle Haines goal after just 90 seconds the Flyers squandered plenty of decent chances and then let the Capitals skate away with the points after some woeful defending.
Season 2014/15
Cardiff Devils 8 Fife Flyers 5
This was the Devils 11th win on the bounce and the Big Blue Tent was proving to be something of a fortress this season. That said the Flyers goal return was pleasing with a Jordan Fulton hat trick and singles from Scott Fleming and Ned Lukacevic but the Welsh side had enough in reserve to win all 3 periods.

Tonight we look back through Flyers 81 year history for games played on January 12th.
Season 1938/39
Fife Flyers 4 Glasgow Mohawks 4 Canada Cup
The Mohawks arrived in Kirkcaldy with no substitute players and the 6 skaters held the Flyers 9 skaters to an unexpected draw. In a subdued match the Flyers ‘superiority complex’ was evident as they tended to over elaborate most of their moves. Despite the heavy odds against them the Mohawks were denied by a George Horn goal which looked suspiciously offside to save the Flyers blushes. McInroy opened the scoring and a double by McQuade had the Flyers level at 3-3 before the Mohawks took the lead.
Season 1949/50
Fife Flyers 6 Dunfermline Vikings 3 National League
Flyers trailed their county rivals by two points for top spot in the league and a tense affair was expected. The fans were not disappointed although the puck ended up in the net four times in the opening 5 minutes as the Flyers took a 3-1 lead. The Flyers maintained their advantage throughout the game with goals from Greger, Bentley, Reid, McCrone 2 and Vanier. In the final few minutes there was a dust up between Greger and Thrasher with each getting 5 minutes and Thrasher a match penalty.
Season 1963/64
Fife Flyers 17 Perth Blackhawks 2 Scottish League
Flyers remained unbeaten against Scottish League opponents with their only reversals coming against the Brighton Tigers and Wembley Lions in challenge matches. ‘Pinky’ Farrell top scored with 4 and there were hat tricks for Spence, Forbes and Law Lovell, McDonald 2 and Young were also on target.
Season 1979/80
Fife Flyers 4 Murrayfield Racers 6 Northern League
The Flyers were becoming mired in a mid-table position as they lost out to the Racers for the 3rd time this season. Jimmy Jack notched a hat trick with Brian Peat the other scorer.
Season 1984/85
Cleveland Bombers 2 Fife Flyers 8 Heineken Premier League
Flyers maintained their slender single point lead over the Murrayfield Racers at the top of the table with this comfortable win. Outshooting the Bombers 52-31 the goals came from the usual suspects, Brown with a hat trick, Stoyanovich and Gordon Latto with doubles and one from Plumb.
Season 1985/86
Whitley Bay Warriors 5 Fife Flyers 4 Heineken Premier League
The Flyers failed to make any ground on the top four in the league as they twice threw away leads to drop both points to a Warriors team in the midst of a play-off battle. It looked like a road win would boost the Flyers league aspirations when they were three ahead after the first with a double from Bidner and one from Kinmond. The second period ended however with the Warriors level pegging at 3-3 only for Plumb to regain the Flyers lead early in the final period. A double in 19 seconds from the hosts sealed their win.
Season 1988/89
Fife Flyers 8 Tayside Tigers 3 Scottish Cup
A comfortable win moved Fife into second place in the Capital Foods Scottish League. The home side lost the first period 2-1 with Derek King on target. A double from Lindsay Lovell and one from Jim Lynch in the second settled any thoughts of a Tigers win. Bobby Haig, Vincent Lukac, Tim Cranston and Gordon Latto completed the scoring.
Season 1990/91
Fife Flyers 9 Peterborough Pirates 9 Heineken Premier League
Despite leading just once throughout the night the Pirates escaped Kirkcaldy with a point and yet another game where the lack of a killer instinct denied the struggling Flyers a much needed win.
Les Millie was in sparkling form on the 2nd line as he hit four goals. There was a double from Rick Fera, and singles from Bobby Haig, Darcy Cahill and Paul Cain.
Season 1991/92
Basingstoke Beavers 8 Fife Flyers 4 Heineken Division One
The Beavers followed up their win against the Flyers on home ice a few weeks previously to once again deny the league leaders. They won all three periods outshooting their visitors 51-45 as the Flyers ran into some rare penalty trouble including a misconduct for Morris. Morris, Robertson, Laplante and Millie were the Flyers scorers.
Season 1996/97
Murrayfield Royals 5 Fife Flyers 8 Northern Premier League
Flyers all but secured the NPL title but had to work hard to overcome a physical Royals side who threatened a shock over 40 minutes. The teams shared the first two periods 3-3 and 1-1 but Flyers superiority finally showed in the final session. Mark Morrison had a hat trick there was a double for Frank Morris and singles for John Haig, Russ Parent and Craig Wilson.
Season 2001/02
Fife Flyers 5 Hull Thunder 2 British National League
There had been a “shape up or ship out” warning from coach Morrison during the week but his players responded by returning a four point weekend. The first of which against the Thunder stopped a run of three consecutive losses. Ahead 1-0 after the first the Flyers were then pegged back to end the second 2-2 before securing the win in the closing minutes and outshooting their opponents 55-21 in the process. Scorers were Morrison 2, Monteith, Biette and Robertson.
Season 2002/03
Hull Thunder 1 Fife Flyers 6 British National League
Despite missing Frank Evans and Steven King the Flyers were too strong for an equally depleted home side on their final visit of the season to Hull. The first period was goal less but the visitors took complete control of the game in the second building up a four goal lead before going on to narrowly win the third. John Haig and Kyle Horne both had doubles with Karry Biette and Jason Dailey with singles.
Season 2007/08
Paisley Pirates 1 Fife Flyers 8 Northern Premier League
The Flyers were quickly into their stride at Braehead after expecting to face a much improved Pirates side under the coaching of Bobby Haig. Samuel, Gunn and Lynch started the rout. Bell and Dutaiume cancelled out a Scott Plews goal in the second and the victory was sealed with goals from Wands, Glasgow and Dutiaume again.
Season 2012/13
Fife Flyers 3 Sheffield Steelers 6 EIHL
An understrength Flyers were left rueing a number of quality scoring chances. Flyers lead 2-0 and then came back to tie the game 3-3 without the services of the injured Casey Haines and suspended Jeff Caister. The Steelers greater depth however saw them finish strongly to take the points. The Flyers goals came from Bobby Chaumont, Steven McAlpine and Kris Hogg.
Season 2013/14
Dundee Stars 4 Fife Flyers 2 EIHL
This one was a goaltending duel in which Bakala and Daly matched each other save for save until the Stars finally iced the win with a late empty net goal. The Flyers were looking to record a four point weekend against their rivals following the previous nights live TV game in Kirkcaldy. The Stars went ahead 2-0 before Chaumont got one back for the visitors. Barry McKenzie restored Stars lead for Reber to reduce arrears but despite a washed out Fulton goal the Flyers just didn’t have enough to get back on terms.
Season 2015/16
Fife Flyers 2 Sheffield Steelers 4 Challenge Cup Quarter Final 1st Leg
The Flyers were still in the tie but only just, although they would be encouraged by out-shooting the Steelers 32-23 in the game. Sheffield opened the scoring after making most of the play in the opening stages. Michael Dorr and Steven Gunn were on target in the second as the game was tied 2-2 going into the third. The Flyers lost the services of Phil Paquet in the third and the Steelers mounting pressure told as they snatched a couple of late goals.
Season 2018/19
Milton Keynes Lightning 5 Fife Flyers 6 OT EIHL
The scoreline in this one swung back and forth throughout with the Flyers on the board first through Finucci. A second period double from Bulmer and one from Schaber had the Flyers ahead going into the final period. The Lightning levelled again before Gauthier once again nudged the Flyers in front, a lead they held until 28 seconds from time. Basaraba was the OT hero to snatch both points.

Season 1938/39
Fife Flyers 1 Perth Panthers 0 John Anderson Trophy Final
The Flyers denied the Panthers their third trophy of the season when they won their home rink competition. For a final this was one of the cleanest games ever seen at the rink with only two penalties being assessed. The winner came 5 minutes from time when Fullerton combined with Horn and Fullerton who was celebrating having just been selected for his first cap for GB buried the loose puck. Chic Kerr’s shutout was the middle of three recorded in the space of 10 days.
Season 1949/50
Fife Flyers 9 Ayr Raiders 2 National League
The Flyers and Vikings remained level on points at the top of the league with the Flyers having played one game less. Golf’s three times Open Champion Henry Cotton watched from the Directors box as the Flyers dominance only produced a single goal at the first interval. They quickly went three ahead only for Ayr to draw within one going into the last period. It was all Flyers in the third however as they rattled in 6 goals. The Scorers were McCrone 2, Snider, Greger 2, Dinardo, Mann 2 and Bentley.
Season 1963/64
Durham Bees 1 Fife Flyers 3 Scottish League
The Flyers recorded a narrow win playing without top scorer Spence and youngster Law Lovell. Junior Danny Brown made his debut for the senior Flyers. It was the Flyers third win over the Bees this season. Farrell opened the scoring before Bees equalised McDonald then Farrell again secured the points.
Season 1973/74
Fife Flyers 17 Glasgow Dynamos 3 Northern League
Another run away win against the Dynamos – Chic Cottrell notched a double hat trick, Les Lovell and Dave Medd each got three with the other scorers Petrie 2, John Taylor , Hunter and Boreham. The 12 third period goals was a record for most in a period in the NIHA era beating 11 previously by Racers against Whitley Bandits in 1970.
Season 1979/80
Fife Flyers 4 Billingham Bombers 7 Northern League
A depleted Flyers side fought bravely against the league leading Bombers but their dominance meant the result of this one was hardly in doubt. Murray McLellan gave the Flyers the lead late in the second but almost immediately it was cancelled out. All of the remaining goals came in the second period with both Latto brothers netting along with Kenny Cruden for the Flyers.
Season 1984/85
Fife Flyers 13 Cleveland Bombers 6 Heineken Premier League
The Bombers proved awkward customers in this one as they threatened the Flyers unbeaten home record. They were ahead 4-3 after the first period but were then blown away in the middle stanza as the Flyers hit seven with only one reply. The home side eased to victory with a further three goals in the final period to stay two points ahead of the Racers who had a game in hand. Scorers were Brown 4, Stoyanovich 3, G Latto 2, Pennycook, Linton, Peat and Cottrell one each.
Season 1985/86
Ayr Bruins 7 Fife Flyers 7 Heineken Premier League
Ayr were chasing Durham for top spot in the league and a draw on their tiny ice pad through West would normally have been a good result had it not been for the manner in which Fife threw away their lead. A treble from Brown and one from Linton had Flyers ahead 4-3 after two and when Bidner , Pennycook and Linton again gave them a 7-4 lead both points looked assured. The Bruins scored three in the final four and a half minutes with Conway’s equaliser coming with just 1 second on the clock.
Season 1990/91
Cardiff Devils 11 Fife Flyers 6 Heineken Premier League
It was a second period slump that cost the Flyers dearly, they went into the middle period trailing 3-2 but were 8-3 down 20 minutes later thanks in part to ex Flyer Steve Moria bagging a natural hat trick. Fife goals were scored by Cain 2 and singles from Fera, Smith, G Latto and Robertson.
Season 1991/92
Romford Raiders 8 Fife Flyers 8 Heineken Division One
Having dropped a point the previous night in Milton Keynes this was another squandered after which coach Kanewischer publicly blasted his table topping side. It required a Richard Laplante short- handed goal to dig Flyers out of this one. Whyte, Morris and Millie all had singles whilst Laplante netted a magnificent five including the game saver.
Season 1996/97
Castlereagh Knights 5 Fife Flyers 16 Northern Premier League
The Flyers duly wrapped up the title at the Dundonald Ice Bowl in Belfast after they blew the Knights away in the opening period in which they lead 7-2. On the way to another lopsided victory John Haig added his name to the club record books by notching a 5+5 which currently equals the most points in a game by a British player. Craig Wilson also had a big night with 4+4 with Russ Parent and John Reid notched doubles. The Andy’s, Samuel and Finlay and Frank Morris completed the scoring.
Season 1999/00
Fife Flyers 3 Basingstoke Bison 3 Christmas Cup Final 1st leg
How crucial would Mark Morrison’s goal be 33 seconds from the end that stunned the visiting Bison and ensured it was all to play for in the return leg. The first period was scoreless but Steven King broke the deadlock early in the second before Bison scored twice to take the lead. Morris netted to tie things up going into the third. Bison netted with twelve minutes to go and looked likely to take a lead down south before the leveller by Morrison.
Season 2001/02
Fife Flyers 9 Peterborough Pirates 1 British National League
Too far behind Coventry and Dundee, who would contest the league title, the Flyers in 3rd place in the league could have been forgiving for simply going through the motions. However, Morrisons threat of a few weeks ago still hung over the dressing room and they systematically dismantled the Pirates to win comfortably. Monteith hit a hat trick, a double from Morris with singles from Dutiaume, S King, Robertson and Samuel.
Season 2002/03
Coventry Blaze 5 Fife Flyers 3 British National League
The league leading Blaze left it late to deny the battling Flyers. It was another depleted Fife line up but they battled well for forty minutes to lead the game 3-2. Blaze finally broke their resistance with three unanswered goals in the third to maintain top spot from Dundee. Mark Morrison, Jonathon Weaver and Todd Dutiaume were the scorers.
Season 2007/08
Fife Flyers 2 Dundee Stars 3 SO Northern Premier League
All good things come to an end is the saying and the Stars bonus hockey win over the Flyers was the first time in almost three years that they had lost a game on home ice! That was a 6-2 Guildford Flames win in April 2005, the last match in charge by Mark Morrison. Somewhat ironic that the Stars had goals from Haig 2 and Gordon Latto junior, the Flyers goals came from Dutiaume and Samuel.
Season 2012/13
Fife Flyers 5 Dundee Stars 0 EIHL
Flyers delivered the complete 60 minute performance that the coaching team had been demanding. They out shot, out skated and out muscled their Tayside rivals. John Dolan had a couple against his former employers and Jason Pitton, Kris Hogg and Todd Dutaiume each had singles. Bryan Pitton pitched a 38 save shut out.
Season 2018/19
Guildford Flames 3 Fife Flyers 4 OT EIHL
Another customary close battle with the Flames but one in which the Flyers almost let the points slip in. They opened in 5 minutes through Cazzola and although level going into the second they then scored through Bloodoff and Schaber to take control of the game heading into the final period. The Flames hit a couple of late goals, the equaliser with 30 seconds remaining but Bulmer popped up with the winner 80 seconds from the end of OT.

Tonight we look back through Flyers 81 year history for games played on January 25th.
Season 1939/40
Fife Flyers 7 Dunfermline Vikings 5 League Scottish Points
Once again referee Jimmy Foley left the home fans less than impressed with his handling of a game that the Flyers were always in control of. A hat trick from Pratt, a double from Thomson and goals from Ney and Rheault had them 7-2 ahead with one of the Viking replies from ex Flyer Jimmy Chappell. Foley then produced a succession of penalties culminating in the Flyers having three in the box in the closing stages and the Vikings able to reduce the leeway further with another of their goals from ex Flyer and player coach Tommy Durling.
Season 1948/49
Fife Flyers 1 Falkirk Lions 7 National League
This win lifted the Lions back to the top of the National League table. Bert Smith opened for the Flyers in the first period but Pat Casey equalised just before the interval. The Lions scored a quick- fire treble in the middle period and the Flyers never looked likely to recover afterwards. With 10 minutes to go the Lions Casey brothers and the Flyers Snider and Greger were all given 5 minute fighting penalties.
Season 1950/51
Fife Flyers 5 Perth Panthers 6 National League
The result left the Flyers still looking for their first success of the season against the Perth side. Greger opened for the home side and Blair’s first had the teams tied before the Panthers stretched their lead and they were never in any danger of losing the points despite late goals from Snider, Smith and another from Blair.
Season 1974/75
Fife Flyers 7 Ayr Bruins 6 Northern League
The Bruins arrived in Kirkcaldy without a win to their name in the league and came very close to changing that as they came back from 5-1 down. The match was played for double points with the Ayr side without a rink and playing all games on the road. Law Lovell top scored with three and there were singles for Les Lovell, John Taylor, Joe McIntosh and Jimmy Jack.
Season 1975/76
Glasgow Dynamos 3 Fife Flyers 10 Icy Smith Semi
The Flyers progressed to the Northern Section Icy Smith Cup final with a straightforward win over the Dynamos. Ahead 3-0 after the first they stretched this into double figures before Pullar was robbed of his shutout by former Flyer Barry Stevenson. Young Willie Cottrell took over in net at that point. Flyers goals came from Les Lovell 3, Brennan 2, Petrie 2, Law Lovell 2 and John Taylor.
Season 1980/81
Ayr Bruins 2 Fife Flyers 6 Northern League
Without the services of three first team players the Flyers turned the heat on the Bruins from the start and it wasn’t until they had built up a 6-0 lead that the home side managed to come back into the game. Charlie Kinmond with two, Neil McKay, Steve Crummey and Neil Abel with possibly the hardest shot of the season were on target for the visitors.
Season 1985/86
Fife Flyers 4 Dundee Rockets 8 Heineken Premier League
Flyers flickering hopes of the league title were virtually extinguished after this defeat. The Rockets won all three periods despite the visitors being outshot 40-28. Bois went nap for the visitors with the Flyers goals coming from doubles by Todd Bidner and Danny Brown.
Season 1991/92
Fife Flyers 7 Lee Valley Lions 5 Heineken Division One
A win for the Flyers who remained top but one that left them in no doubt about what the fans thought of their efforts. It was a run of the mill display against woefully week opposition. Poor defensive play largely presented Geoff Job with a five goal haul. Laplante 2, Morris, Brown, Millie, Robertson and Abel were the Fife scorers.
Season 1996/97
Dumfries Border Vikings 4 Fife Flyers 8 Northern Premier League
With the title already secured the scoreline suggested a much closer game than it actually was as the Flyers eased to another two points with plenty to spare. Ahead 8-1 they took their foot off the peddle a bit in the third and allowed the Vikings to add some respectability to the score line. Flyers scorers were John Haig 3, Russ Parent 2, Andy Samuel, Craig Wilson and Lee Mercer with one each.
Season 1997/98
Fife Flyers 5 Murrayfield Royals 3 British National League
Bottom of the table Royals should have been a much easier proposition for the Flyers and on a cold night which many stayed in doors the atmosphere and the performance was very flat inside the arena. Flyers won the opening two periods and by the third period they were enough ahead to give youngster Andy Moffat a run out in goal. The Royals scored a quick fire double before he could settle to put a better reflection on the scoreboard from their perspective. The Fife goals came from Morrison 2, Samuel, Haig and Lee Cowmeadow.
Season 1999/00
Basingstoke Bison 2 Fife Flyers 3 Christmas Cup Final 2nd leg
With around 100 travelling Flyers fans in attendance the teams served up another great advert for the sport on a night of high drama. It was a superb team performance from Fife against a formidable Bison side in their own barn. The visitors took the first period 1-0 to lead the tie with a blue line screamer from Andy Samuel. The second period saw three goals and the tie return to level pegging on the night and aggregate with Morrison the Fife scorer. Next goal the winner? That’s how it worked out with Ted Russell (below right) the hero on the power play.
Season 2002/03
Fife Flyers 6 Edinburgh Capitals 0 British National League
In a season where Steve Briere had consistently faced upwards of 40 shots a night this one was a comparative night off for him as he turned away 25 shots to blank the Capitals. Dutiaume and Derek King had doubles, a rare event for the blueliner and there were singles from Morrison and Horne.
Season 2003/04
Hull Stingrays 3 Fife Flyers 6 British National League
Stingrays defied their lowly league position by never quite giving the league leading Flyers breathing space in which they won all three periods 2-1 but it was late strikes that eventually settled the matter. Minus Ian Fletcher and Steven King they were made to work all the way. Goneau and Haig had doubles with the other goals from Biette and Spadafora.
Season 2010/11
Fife Flyers 10 Edinburgh Capitals 1 East Coast Cup
The EIHL Capitals were humbled in this inaugural competition. The rules restricted the Edinburgh side to just four imports but the crisis hit side could only muster two, Martin Cingel and a certain Jeff Hutchins. The Edinburgh side didn’t get on the board until the final minute when Cingel broke Nicol’s shutout bid. The Flyers goal scorers were Dutaiume 3, Gunn 2, Wilson, McAlpine, Scoon, Linton and Samuel.
Season 2013/14
Fife Flyers 3 Cardiff Devils 4 OT EIHL
Devils and Flyers were sitting in the last two play off spots coming into this one and the defeat was a huge blow to the Flyers hopes of making the post season as the Welsh side opened up a seven point gap. Five on five the Flyers were superior to the visitors but their power play misfired going 0 from 7 attempts. Three of the Devils goals came when they had the man advantage. Jordan Fulton hit a double and Matt Reber a single but the Devils nicked the win in overtime.
Season 2014/15
Fife Flyers 5 Belfast Giants 4 SO EIHL
Having lost 5-2 to the Giants the previous night in Belfast both teams returned to Kirkcaldy, one at 5.00am in the morning from a ferry the other a short hop over on a flight that afternoon. Tied at 1-1 after the first the Flyers lost a goal seconds from the end of the middle period to trail 4-3. They battled back with Lukacevic equalising early in the third. Milam, Haines and Chaumont were the other scorers as the Flyers then took the extra point with a shootout win with Ned getting the only goal.
Season 2018/19
Belfast Giants 6 Fife Flyers 3 EIHL
The Flyers were well in this game approaching the half way point and tied at 2-2 with a double from Gauthier. The Giants fund the net three times in 80 seconds to completely turn the game on its head with 29 minutes remaining. Basaraba reduced the deficit before the end of the second period but the Flyers could make no further in roads and gave up the final goal in the last few minutes.

Tonight we look back through Flyers 81 year history for games played on February 1st.
Season 1938/39
Falkirk Lions 4 Fife Flyers 4 Canada Cup
Flyers found themselves three goals down after the first period but staged a rousing comeback in the middle session. They lost McCartney with a facial injury to start the second but despite the handicap Durling reduced the leeway. McCartney returned to the fray and netted a second goal before the end of the Period. Despite the Flyers all out attack in search of the equaliser it was the Lions who scored next to extend their lead. Durling scored again and with only three minutes left Chappell snatched the equaliser in a thrilling encounter.
Season 1939/40
Fife Flyers 10 Dundee Tigers 3 Consolation Cup Final 2nd Leg
The Flyers had to overcome an 8-4 reverse the previous night in Dundee. Rheault scored three early on of his six as Flyers scored the first four goals to level on aggregate only for the Tigers to regain the lead. The Flyers then took control and went ahead by four goals in the tie. Tigers narrowed the aggregate to two before Flyers scored the nights final goal. Other goals came from Morrison, Pratt and a double from Eddie McMillan who was making his home debut. The competition was played for by the two teams that were knocked out of the Scottish Cup 1st round which was as every bit as convoluted as today’s Challenge Cup with Dundee and Ayr having to playoff to see who would qualify as the fourth semi finalist and who would drop into the Consolation game as they both lost their 1st round ties by a single goal. Dundee eventually had the ‘honour’ of meeting the Flyers who lost both Scottish Cup games to Dunfermline.
Season 1948/49
Paisley Pirates 0 Fife Flyers 6 National League
The Flyers recorded their first win in Paisley of the season, Pete Belanger recorded his 3rd ever shutout for the team and the result put them into second spot in the league just behind the Falkirk Lions. The Paisley bogey was under threat as early as the 6th minute when Scrutton scored. Mann then hit a double to put the Fifers well in control. Bert Smith then got in on the act adding a further two before Mann went on to collect his hat trick. In a bid to thwart the shut out the Pirates pulled their goalie late on but Belanger managed to turn aside the onslaught.
Season 1950/51
Fife Flyers 4 Falkirk Lions 3 National League
It was a rough and tumble encounter with neither side barely at full strength throughout with 20 penalties being called for a total of 50 minutes of playing time. Bentley opened the scoring and he added a second when the visitors were under penalty. The Lions almost tied things in the second with two shots off the post. Despite the five goals scored in the final period the match was described as “disgustingly poor”. After the Lions pulled one back Smith restored the two goal lead and Williams added another before the Lions narrowed the gap again just a couple of minutes from the end.
Season 1951/52
Ayr Raiders 4 Fife Flyers 2 National League
Flyers failed to capture the form that they had showed a month before when over coming the league leaders and the powerful Raiders were ahead all the way in this one after getting the opening goal. Had it not been for the brilliance of Stubby Mason in the Flyers net then this could have been a more emphatic reversal. The Flyers finally got on the board in the third at 3-0 down when Johnny Vanier scored and Frank Facto got another late consolation goal.
Season 1968/69
Fife Flyers 1 Murrayfield Racers 10 Northern League
This thumping from their neighbours was as easy a win for the Racers as the scoreline suggests. Jim Taylor was a last minute replacement in goals but that was no excuse for such a poor overall team display. Les Lovell and ‘Pecker’ Reilly both bagged triples, Norrie Boreham was the sole Flyers marksman early in the second to bring the score to 4-1.
Season 1980/81
Glasgow Dynamos 5 Fife Flyers 5 Northern League
A shaky defence cost the Flyers dearly against the Dynamos. Backed by a large Fife travelling support it was Willie Cottrell who time after time bailed them out after defensive errors. Two goals by Neil McKay and another by McLellan had the teams tied at 3-3 after the second period. It took late goals by McKay for his hat trick and Jimmy Jack to level things again in the third to share the points.
Season 1985/86
Fife Flyers 9 Streatham Redskins 5 Heineken Premier League
Neil Abel’s first ever Heineken Premier League hat trick was the highlight of a rather uninspiring match. The Flyers were ahead through Bidner after only 28 seconds and Brown doubled the lead after 8 minutes. A double in less than 20 seconds had the Redskins level but that was the only time they came close to causing an upset. Bidner also completed his hat trick, Brown grabbed another and Goodsir rounded out the scoring.
Season 1986/87
Murrayfield Racers 12 Fife Flyers 6 Heineken Premier League
Murrayfield maintained their top of the league place despite the Flyers giving them an early scare. Stoyanovich had an off night but Steve Moria was involved in all of the Fife goals and his early double along with a Stoyanovich strike had the Flyers 3-0 ahead just over midway through the opening period. Racers clawed a couple back before the interval. The first six minutes of the middle period proved to be the defining moment in the game as the homeside struck four without reply to lead by three. Moria stopped the rot with his hat trick goal before Bobby Haig further reduced arrears. The Racers added a further three in the final period before Moria had the last word with his fourth of the game just three minutes from time. Flyers protested afterwards to the BIHA as Racers iced new import Birley less than the stated 48 hours required for registrations. It fell on deaf ears as the response was there were ‘discretionary powers’ applied.
Season 1991/92
Telford Tigers 10 Fife Flyers 6 Heineken Division One
Post game coach Kanewischer announced indefinite bans on five players following allegations of indiscipline during the road trip that saw the leaders drop further points as over 1900 crammed into the Shropshire rink to see the Tigers win all three periods and outshoot the Flyers. Abel, Dickson, Millie and the Haig brothers were the ‘offenders’. B Haig, Laplante stemmed the Telford flow at 4-2. Morris scored a hat trick and Millie got the other one.
Season 1997/98
Lancashire Hawks 5 Fife Flyers 9 British National League
Flyers made it a weekend double against the Hawks but it was their strength in depth that eventually allowed them to overcome their hosts in Blackburn. David Smith was on top form as he netted four, Frank Morris and Wayne Maxwell bagged doubles with the scoring completed by Daryl Venters.
Season 1999/00
Paisley Pirates 3 Fife Flyers 6 Scottish Cup
The Scottish Cup continued to throw up bizarre situations this season, 10.30pm face offs for a home game and this one at the Lagoon where between the second and third periods there was a full scale evacuation of the building after a fire alarm was sounded. At that point the Flyers were 5-0 ahead and clearly the home side returned to action more focused but the victory was already all but secured and the running clock certainly didn’t help the Pirates chances. Scorers were Russell Monteith with four and singles for Morrison and Gary Wishart.
Season 2002/03
Fife Flyers 5 Edinburgh Capitals 3 British National League
The scoreline wasn’t the talking point it was the 140 penalty minutes called in the final minutes of the game, 122 of which came in the final two minutes in a game that had until that point seen only three minors called, all to the Capitals. Haig was tossed on a misconduct for verbals, Caps Lynch and Mark Morrison five plus game penalties for roughing with Biette also getting the gate for third man in and shortly afterwards Konder of the Caps talked his way to an early shower from referee Pirry. The Flyers recued the points with a couple of goals in the closing two minutes of an otherwise entertaining game. Scorers were Morrison 2, Dutiaume, S King and Biette.
Season 2003/04
Edinburgh Capitals 4 Fife Flyers 4 OT British National League
A point gained was how Mark Morrison put it as he emerged from the away dressing room following a terrific 70 minutes of hockey between these old rivals. Morrison opened the scoring in the fourth minute before he then doubled the Flyers lead. Haig was then sent for an early shower on a misconduct from ref Wilson and the Flyers stretched their lead to three when Goneau netted. The Capitals raced back and once they got their first against the run of play they had all the momentum to tie the scores at 3-3 going into the third. Saul had the home side in front but Dutiaume rescued the point as the sides than couldn’t be separated in over time.
Season 2008/09
Solway Sharks 2 Fife Flyers 3 Celtic Cup
Flyers survived a nervy third period to secure the victory in a feisty encounter in Dumfries. It was a match littered with penalties but when Fife stretched to a 3-0 lead the result looked as though it would never be in doubt. The Sharks however struck with a couple of power play goals in the third period to set up a tense final 10 minutes. The Flyers scorers were S King, Dutaiume and Wands.
Season 2010/11
Edinburgh Capitals 2 Fife Flyers 2 East Coast Cup
Following their comprehensive win the week before against the Caps all eyes were on Murrayfield to see if the strengthened EIHL Caps team would gain revenge on their rivals. Stephen Gunn and Andy Samuel had the Flyers ahead 2-1 going into the third and Cingel’s second of the game tied it. The Murrayfield man was denied the game winner and his hat trick with 6 seconds remaining but it was the least the Flyers deserved from the game.
Season 2013/14
Hull Stingrays 4 Fife Flyers 1 EIHL
This result all but mathematically ended the Flyers chances of playoff hockey. Once again Fife failed on the power play going 0 for 7 with the man advantage. Ned Lukacevic tied the score midway through the match but doubles from Doucet and Tendler eased the home side to victory.
Season 2014/15
Hull Stingrays 3 Fife Flyers 4 SO EIHL
Flyers took their remarkable success in penalty shoot outs to 10 wins from 11 with Kevin Regan in net for all but one of these wins as they returned with two points from Humberside. Lukacevic was once again the hero with the winner in the last four shoot outs. Flyers found themselves 3-2 ahead after two with goals from Milam, Wilson and Reber only to be denied the regulation win 76 seconds from the buzzer.
Season 2018/19
Glasgow Clan 2 Fife Flyers 1 EIHL
A third defeat on Clan ice for the Flyers in the season. All the goals came in the middle period. Connolly opened for Glasgow before Paul Crowder levelled a few minutes later. The tie was broken 28 seconds before the end of the period when Beca beat Owen.

Tonight we look back through Flyers 81 year history for games played on this day, February 8th.
Season 1939/40
Fife Flyers 4 Falkirk Lions 7 League Scottish Points
Falkirk arrived two men short so having only one substitute to rotate with during the game. They played a defensive game to conserve energy and against a Flyers side that failed to reach the standards of recent weeks it was enough to carve out a comfortable win. Arnie Pratt and Paul Rheault scored doubles for the Flyers.
Season 1950/51
Fife Flyers 6 Ayr Raiders 1 Autumn Cup
After the Flyers and Raiders finished the group on the same points and there had been a decision made not to award the winners on goal difference these two had a two legged playoff to decide. The Flyers came into this second leg 7-2 behind and faced an Ayr team who had won their last 7 in a row. It was a remarkable come back with goals from Smith, Campone, Reid and Blair bringing them within one goal before the Raiders scored. Blair again before the 2nd period break set up a frantic final period in which he completed his hat trick with 5 minutes remaining to tie to scores on aggregate. The teams had to do it all again over two legs when the Flyers once again lost the away leg 7-3 but romped home 11-4 in Kirkcaldy to take the title.
Season 1963/64
Fife Flyers 6 Brighton Tigers 6 Challenge Match
More than 3000 packed the rink as the Tigers arrived late so causing a 30 minute delay to the face off. In what was considered the best game seen at the rink since the demise of the professional game the Flyers found it hard going in the opening period, some considered that the similarity in colour of the jerseys didn’t help. Changing to a darker jersey from the second period the Flyers fought their way back twice from being two goals down. Law Lovell had opened for the Flyers before brother Les put the visitors in front. Doubles from Young and Farrell and another from Spence eventually had the Flyers ahead but the Tigers equalised with 70 seconds remaining. The Flyers tried to go for the win by pulling Reid in the last 30 seconds but were beaten by the clock.
Season 1968/69
Fife Flyers 4 Wearl Beavers 4 Challenge Match
Flyers were ‘reinforced’ by four Paisley Mohawk forwards for this challenge game against Canadian Army opponents. It was the Paisley boys who featured strongly on the score sheet with Ray Collins grabbing a brace and a single from J Conway. There was never more than a goal in the game as the lead changed hands several times. Norrie Boreham netted the other Flyers goal.
Season 1974/75
Fife Flyers 10 Glasgow Dynamos 4 Northern League
Dynamos coached by ex-Flyer Joe Baird were no match for the home side as the Flyers looked to remain in contention with the Racers who were a point ahead at the top of the league. Cottrell opened the scoring on the way to collecting a hat trick. There were doubles for Les Lovell 2 and Jack 2 with Law Lovell, Boreham and Hunter completing the scoring.
Season 1975/76
Ayr Bruins 2 Fife Flyers 5 Northern League
Law Lovell bagged a hat trick as the Flyers early bombardment of the home side yielded a 5-1 lead by early in the third period and they coasted to victory from there. Les Lovell and Jack were the other scorers and the Bruins were left in no doubt that they would have to improve significantly before meeting the Flyers in the Icy Smith Cup Final.
Season 1980/81
Murrayfield Racers 7 Fife Flyers 5 Northern League
A late slump denied the Flyers their first win in 10 games against their rivals. They were ahead 3-1 going into the final period with goals from G Latto, McKay and Kinmond. The Racers banged in three before Gordon Latto scored again to level things. Another three from the Racers meant that Chic Cottrell’s goal was a mere consolation.
Season1985/86
Fife Flyers 5 Ayr Bruins 6 Heineken Premier League
The Flyers and Bruins rattled out their customary brand of hard-hitting hockey in a match that just about everything apart from the right result for home fans. The Bruins built up a four goal lead before a spirited fightback by the Flyers. A double from Bidner and one from Brown had the Flyers roaring back but Ayr regained their two goal advantage before Cottrell once again got them close. Bruins wouldn’t be beaten and sealed the game with another before Plumbs consolation late on.
Season 1986/87
Streatham Redskins 6 Fife Flyers 13 Heineken Premier League
An excellent road win was marred by ugly scenes during the post-match hand-shakes. Stoyanovich and Linton along with Redskins Goldstone and Smith were all handed match misconduct penalties. The Flyers were always in control of this one and were ahead 6-1 after the opening period despite losing the opening goal. Leading 11-2 they took their foot off the gas in the final period. Goal scorers were Sims 2, Moria 6, B Haig, Stoyanovich 4,
Season 1989/90
Fife Flyers 8 Murrayfield Racers 5 Capital Foods Scottish League
The sixth encounter between these bitter rivals this season and at last a win for the Flyers who also halted the Racers 22 game unbeaten run. Not a fiery derby by any stretch of the imagination as the Scottish League competition continued to underwhelm players, coaches and fans alike. Still for the record Fera 5, Beausoleil 2 and D Smith were the Fife scorers.
Season 1991/92
Fife Flyers 5 Telford Tigers 8 Heineken Division One
The Tigers succeeded where everyone else had failed and finally ended the Flyers unbeaten home record just a week after beating them on home ice. Craig Wilson netted and Frank Morris carried the offensive threat with four goals but with the enforced player suspensions the Flyers huffed and puffed against a well organised and extremely efficient Tigers team who were heavily outshot but never lost control of the hockey game.
Season1997/98
Fife Flyers 6 Telford Tigers 6 OT British National League
The Flyers final game of the BNL campaign and the most exciting of the season as the momentum swung to and fro between these two sides for the entire game. The Tigers had three players ejected in the opening period and twice came from two goals down to take it into overtime. Indeed, the visitors thought they had won both points with only 19 seconds to go but ref Neil Wilson ruled that the puck had been kicked in behind McCrone. Morrison scored two with singles from Morris, Smith, S King and Samuel.
Season 2003/04
Dundee Stars 5 Fife Flyers 4 OT British National League
Another point gained as the Flyers extended their lead at the top of the table from six to seven points over the Guildford Flames who they had beaten 4-3 at Kirkcaldy just 24 hours earlier. Morrison and Biette twice had Flyers ahead in the third only for the Stars to take the lead before the buzzer. Morrison grabbed his second and Kuznik also found the net as the teams were tied 4-4 after two. It stayed that way into overtime and Decosty beat Briere with 66 seconds remaining.
Season 2008/09
Dundee Stars 4 Fife Flyers 3 OT Celtic Cup
Despite the loss the Flyers were happy to take a point that kept them in the driving seat in the Celtic Cup standings. Wands and S King had the Flyers ahead after the first period, Dundee tied it in the second and went ahead in the third and looked to be on course for the win before a Lynch pass found Dutiaume who netted with just 8 seconds remaining. As I say the Flyers were happy with the point and the silverware was theirs to lose.
Season2013/14
Belfast Giants 6 Fife Flyers 4 EIHL
Flyers visited the Champion Giants with nothing to play for. The game was ultimately decided in the opening period when the Giants took a 3-1 lead. There was a double from Reber and singles from Roehl and Fulton as the Flyers did draw level at 3-3 before losing the next three before reply.
Season 2014/15
Dundee Stars 3 Fife Flyers 0 EIHL
A woeful Scottish weekend ended with no points following defeats at the Capitals and Stars. The Stars hadn’t won a game in regulation in the league since October. James Isaacs opened the Stars account and the Flyers simply had no killer touch to recover as they lost each of the periods by a single goal.
Season 2016/17
Sheffield Steelers 6 Fife Flyers 1 EIHL
Flyers continued their Jeckyll & Hyde performances with a heavy defeat at Ice Sheffield – a place they rarely win. The Steelers who were still clinging on the coat tails of the Cardiff Devils in the race for the league title heavily outshot their visitors 43-26 but were only a couple of goals ahead going into the third. The Flyers tired in the final period losing four without reply in as many minutes before Sebastien Thinel finally broke Mustukov’s shut out 9 minutes from time.

Tonight we look back through Flyers 81 year history for games played on February 16th
Season 1938/39
Fife Flyers 16 Bristol Bombers 2 Friendly
The tourists were soundly thrashed by the Flyers in their fifth game in Scotland, losing all five games and conceding 51 goals in the process. The Flyers were merciless and they took the opportunity to rest Chic Kerr after the first period and introduced Alec McKendrick, the ex-Trail Smoke Eaters goalie, in net. McQuade led the scoring with 6 goals closely followed by McCartney who went nap. Horn bagged a double with Durling, Chappell and Billy Fullerton rounding out the rout.
Season 1939/40
Ayr Raiders 4 Fife Flyers 3 League Sottish Points
Top of the table Flyers were deservedly beaten by the Raiders who built up a 3-1 lead but Paul Rheault completed his hat trick to bring the visitors level. Ayr were regarded the better side on the night and they snatched the winner before the end.
Season 1948/49
Ayr Raiders 4 Fife Flyers 7 National League
Despite the fact that the Raiders took the lead three times in this one the Flyers ended up comfortable winners. They got doubles from Scrutton, Mann and Snider and a single counter from Greger.
Season 1949/50
Fife Flyers 6 Paisley Pirates 5 National League
Following a series of recent defeats the league leading Flyers just about overcame their jitters to squeeze past the Pirates. Mostly outplayed by the visitors it was Belanger that was responsible for the win with a string of fine saves. Behind 3-1 after the first with Greger having opened the scoring, Smith and Vanier scored in the second to leave them trailing 4-3. In the third there was a double from Bentley and one from McCrone who struck the winner two minutes from time. The Flyers survived the Raiders hitting the post in the final seconds.
Season 1952/53
Falkirk Lions 5 Fife Flyers 3 National League
The Flyers struggling at the foot of the table were now firmly established in the cellar after this latest defeat. Len Smigel, Scotty Dowle and Hal Poulin were the Flyers scorers.
Season 1954/55
Dundee Tigers 6 Fife Flyers 3 British National League
After taking a 3-1 lead in the first session the Flyers lost the place and were eventually soundly thrashed by the never-say-die Tigers. Andrews put them ahead early on and following Dundee’s equaliser Davidson and Thrasher extended the Flyers lead. That was to be it though as the Flyers recent resurgence in form came to a shuddering halt as the home side netted five without reply to win the points.
Season 1963/64
Brighton Tigers 2 Fife Flyers 4 Friendly
The Flyers ended the homesides unbeaten run at 19 matches. A week after the teams drew 6-6 at Kirkcaldy they served up yet another closely fought contest. Law Lovell opened for the Flyers before the game was tied. Farrell again put the visitors in front only for the Tigers to draw level once more. In the final five minutes the Flyers secured victory with goals from Spence and Lovell.
Season 1972/3
The Hague 11 Fife Flyers 0 Friendly
The Flyers travelled to Holland to play what they thought wold be a mainly amateur side called Veronica 538 but maybe because of the Flyers reputation of recent trophy wins the hosts brought in some assistance and created an “All Star” team containing seven Canadians and an American goaltender all of whom were professional. The match was played in a recently completed £2M rink used solely for hockey and it was every bit as one sided as the scoreline suggests.
Season 1973/74
Fife Flyers 26 Paisley Mohawks 4 Skol Trophy
The Flyers created a then club record for goals and also a NIHA record for total goals in a game. The Flyers were expected to win easily as the Paisley side took their total of goals conceded in Kirkcaldy to 61 in the three games this season. Tom Houston who was the practice goalie with the Flyers was drafted in by Paisley and what a “debut” to make in your home town. The goals parade read: Petrie 6, Cottrell 5, Les Lovell 3, Law Lovell 3, Muir 3, Jack 3, Horne 2, G Latto
Season 1974/75
Murrayfield Racers 10 Fife Flyers 4 Northern League
Racers who had defeated the Flyers the previous night in Kirkcaldy in a Cup match cemented their position at the top of the league with this easy win. Tormentors in chief were once again Reilly and Wood who each scored four. Down 7-1 with a goal from Les Lovell Flyers briefly game themselves a shake and Law Lovell and John Taylor reduced arrears. The Racers restored their advantage before Norrie Boreham hit a late consolation.
Season 1979/80
Fife Flyers 5 Whitley Bay Warriors 5 Northern League
A draw did little for the Flyers chances of reaching a Spring Cup playoff place for a top four finish in the Northern League. A Gordon Latto double, Andy Linton, Brian Peat and Chic Cottrell singles had the Flyers ahead only to be denied three minutes from time with a Warriors equaliser.
Season 1984/85
Cleveland Bombers 6 Fife Flyers 10 Heineken Premier League
Flyers maintained their top of the league position but the Durham Wasps were menacingly closing in, now four points behind but with three games less played. In their latest triumph The Flyers took a 3-1 lead in the first, the Bombers narrowed things to being behind 5-4 after two but the Flyers powered through the final period with a 5-1 scoreline. Stoyanovich scored four, Pennycook two with singles from Linton, Plumb, Brown and Cottrell.
Season 1985/86
Streatham Redskins 1 Fife flyers 7 Heineken Premier League
Fife completed a weekend road doubleheader against the two teams just behind them in the standings with a four point return. After the win in Nottingham the previous night they comfortably downed the Redskins. A double from Brown and one from Bidner had them three up before Streatham scored late in the second. The visitors dominated the final period with two from Pennycook and singles from Plumb and Linton.
Season 1990/91
Fife Flyers 6 Murrayfield Racers 8 Heineken Premier League
There was an air of inevitability about the Flyers struggles to retain Premier League status as they desperately sought two points against their rivals. The game was tied 6-6 with a couple of minutes to go when Paul Pentland took a penalty to put the Flyers on the power play. This was surely their chance, instead an error gifted the puck to Tony Hand who went through and scored a solo short handed goal to shatter the Flyers. It was the Racers 3rd short handed goal of the game, they also had three on the power play and the other two were when the sides were 4 on 4. Robertson and Fera notched doubles with singles from Millie and Smith.
Season 1991/92
Fife Flyers 26 Trafford Metros 8 Heineken Division One
The Metros who had propped up Division One from day one were scored on at will by a Flyers team who threw 68 shots on net. Every Flyers skater appeared on the stats sheet and the goals were spread amongst eight players. Laplante recorded a 9+3, Morris and Robertson had 4, there were doubles for Wilson, S King, Berrington, Land and a single for Page.
Season 1996/97
Paisley Pirates 6 Fife flyers 8 Northern Premier League
Flyers closed off their league winning campaign with another two points and in doing so gained a little revenge on the Pirates who had unexpectedly beaten them in the Scottish Cup the previous week. They left it late though as they came back from 5-4 down after the second period in front of yet another full house at the Lagoon. Indeed the Flyers couldn’t have ended the season in any more spectacular style trailing 6-5 with a couple of minutes remaining they hit three goas in 70 seconds. The scorers were Morrison 3 and singles from Parent, Haig, Morris, S King and Wilson.
Season 2001/02
Fife Flyers 8 Paisley Pirates 1 British National League
Pirates were battling for a play off spot with the Flyers still sitting comfortably in third position in the league. There was little suggest the West of Scotland side would be successful in their quest as they were easily brushed aside by the Flyers. The Flyers took the opportunity to try out some new line combinations and got goals from Monteith 2, Dutiaume, S King, Morrison, Morris, Quinnell, and Biette.
Season 2002/03
Fife Flyers 5 Newcastle Vipers 4 British National League
Flyers playoff position was all but secure going into this game but there was also a growing optimism that they were becoming genuine contenders for the post season. This was a come from behind win as the Vipers raced to a 3-0 lead after the first period. In a reversal of fortunes the Flyers had the game tied 3-3 after 40 minutes with Weaver and a double from Dutiaume. A third period brace from Biette eventually settled the game.
Season 2007/08
Fife Flyers 4 Paisley Pirates 1 Scottish Premier League
A low key affair with both teams minds perhaps on bigger games to follow. Never behind in the game the Flyers got a double from Lewis Glasgow and singles from Dutiaume and Steven Gunn before Blair Daly lost his shut out near the end.
Season 2012/13
Sheffield Steelers 3 Fife Flyers 0 EIHL
Flyers were blanked as they visited title chasing Steelers. It was the third time they had been shut out this season and at the other end Blair Daly was awarded the man of the match for his heroics. The result left Fife clinging on to the last play off place on a tie breaker over the Dundee Stars.
Season 2013/14
Fife Flyers 7 Hull Stingrays 2 EIHL
Still clinging to an outside chance of catching the Devils for the final play off place a revitalised Flyers concluded another four point weekend with a demolition job on the visiting Stingrays. Flyers were 2-0 ahead inside 10 minutes thanks to Fulton and Dacosta. They extended their lead to 5-1 after the second to effectively kill the game with goals from Hartung, Roehl and Lukacevic. Fulton with his second and Gunn completed the rout.
Season 2017/18
Braehead Clan 3 Fife Flyers 6 EIHL
For Flyers to have a chance of winning the Gardiner Conference over the weekend it all hinged on getting a result on the Friday night in Braehead. Fife demonstrated their dominance over Clan by notching their seventh win of the season against them. The Flyers got off to the prefect start and were two up with goals from Shayne Stockton and Liam Heelis before Chase Schaber gave them a 3-0 lead before the end of the first period. LeBlanc regained the three goal advantage and when Clan pulled it back to 4-3 Carlo Finucci struck again. Desperation from the Clan saw Nie lifted with over 6 minutes remaining and Danick Gauthier found the empty net to confirm the win.
Season 2018/19
Fife Flyers 4 Coventry Blaze 7 EIHL
Flyers got off to the perfect start and were two goals ahead inside five minutes. Basara opened the scoring and 26 seconds later Bulmer doubled the advantage. Flodqvist pulled one back but 90 seconds later Basaraba restored the two goal advantage. Blaze hit back before the end of the first however and levelled the game at 3-3. The second saw Blaze take the lead late on, Fife equalised within 25 seconds of the final period through Bloodoff. Tim Crowder scored his second and Pauly a double, to complete his hat trick, as the Blaze ran out comfortable winners.

Tonight we look back through Flyers 81 year history for games played on February 23rd.
Season 1938/39
Fife Flyers 9 Falkirk Lions 1 Canada Cup
With Pantalone under suspension and Amantea out with a knee injury the Lions were heavily handicapped minus their two star players. McKendrick was loaned to the Lions from the Flyers but he could do nothing to stem the pucks entering his net. Durling, McQuade and Chappell scored doubles with Stover, McCartney and McInroy also finding the net.
Season 1949/50
Fife Flyers 4 Dundee Tigers 4 National League
A game to be remembered for the fuss and bother created when Chick Mann, five seconds from time, guided the puck into the net but the ‘goal’ was disallowed – quite rightly – because Mann had kicked the puck in. Something that he later admitted after the match but that did not stop the home fans from littering the ice with orange peels and other ‘ongauns’ as the Fife Free Press reported. The lead had alternated four times with Smith opening then Bentley equalising before Mann gave the Flyers the lead again only for Bentley once to tie things with just three minutes remaining.
Season 1962/63
Fife Flyers 5 Murrayfield Royals 4 Friendly
This was a hastily arranged afternoon game, as the big freeze continued to hit football, at the request of STV so they could air it later that evening on Scotsport. This was the Flyers debut on TV but something they would grow accustomed to as the decade wore on. Flyers played Sammy McDonald (Altrincham) as a guest and the McDonald, Forbes, Spence line was born. Murrayfield also guested Dorrie Boyle from Paisley in an entertaining game. Forbes and Spence each bagged a brace with Greger getting the other Flyers goal.
Season 1963/64
Fife Flyers 6 Paisley Mohawks 3 Scottish League Playoff Final
Winners of Section A Flyers met the Section B winners Mohawks, Flyers had already beaten the Paisley side three times and there was to be no upset in a drab affair with doubles from Spence (his first from the centre spot!) and Forbes and singles from Farrell and Law Lovell.
Season 1984/85
Fife Flyers 11 Ayr Bruins 5 Heineken Premier League
Ayr were on a run of eight games without defeat coming into this one and it looked as though they would extend this after they lead 4-3 at the first break. Flyers however still leading the way in the league dominated the final 40 minutes scoring seven times with only one in reply. Stoyanovich was once again the leading scorer as he went nap, Pennycook bagged a double and there were goals from Plumb, Linton and both Latto brothers.
Season 1988/89
Ayr Bruins 9 Fife Flyers 8 Scottish League @ Livingston
In front of a near capacity crowd in Livingston Danny Shea struck with 29 seconds left to lift the Bruins into second spot in the Capital Foods Scottish League at the end of the round robin phase. The Flyers iced a depleted squad with Alan Makin getting his debut and collecting an assist. Kokrment and Haig both bagged hat tricks with Figala and Lynch also on target.
Season 1990/91
Nottingham Panthers 5 Fife Flyers 4 Heineken Premier League
The Flyers crashed to the foot of the table after an abysmal double header south of the border. In a tight encounter, the first of the weekend, the Flyers lost a goal in 19 seconds to former import Bidner. Fera tied the scores before they fell 3-1 behind. The second period saw them level the match at 4-4 with goals from Smith, Fera and Millie. Adey scored the decisive goal in the third period.
Season 1991/92
Fife Flyers 8 Romford Raiders 3 Heineken Division One
This one was tied 3-3 going into the final period but the Flyers then found a way through an energy sapping Raiders set up to win by a comfortable margin. With only 11 skaters the visitors played the game to avoid a hammering and to an extent it worked but made for a very poor spectacle. There was another five goal performance from Laplante with Morris, Berrington and Steven King also on target.
Season 2001/02
Fife Flyers 7 Milton Keynes Kings 1 British National League
The final regular home game of the season saw another comfortable Fife win and one which aided West Coast rival Paisley Pirates who were in a play off fight with the Kings. Frank Morris had a hat trick and Todd Dutiaume a double with singles from Biette and Morrison.
Season 2002/03
Newcastle Vipers 5 Fife Flyers 1 British National League
Final regular season match and the Flyers were simply beaten by the better team who finished one place below them in the final play off position and who perhaps fancied their chances of being spoilers in the post season. The Flyers solitary goal in the final period came from Jonathon Weaver.
Season 2007/08
Paisley Pirates 2 Fife Flyers 8 Scottish Premier League
A game arranged at short notice as the Pirates original opponents the Billingham Bombers pulled out of the fixture in midweek. Flyers executed another solid road win as they won all three periods and outshot their hosts. Lynch, Gunn and S King with doubles with Dutiaume and Beattie getting the other goals.
Season 2012/13
Fife Flyers 4 Hull Stingrays 2 EIHL
Podge Turnbull made his Flyers debut and the team recorded what was considered a crucial win against the bottom of the league Stingrays. Kris Hogg hit a double and there were goals for Bobby Chaumont and Zach Carriveau as the Fifers climbed a couple of spots in the play off race.
Season 2013/14
Cardiff Devils 2 Fife Flyers 3 OT EIHL
Flyers opened the scoring in the 9th minute through Derek Roehl on the power play. The Devils levelled midway through the second before Danny Stewart assisted by Hartung gave the Flyers the lead again before the break. The Devils took the game to OT when they converted a penalty shot with 10 seconds remaining after the net had been knocked off. Fulton won it in OT after the Flyers killed a penalty.
Season 2018/19
Fife Flyers 4 Dundee Stars 3 EIHL
Fife made another good start to the game and heavily outshot Stars in the first period to be rewarded when Bloodoff bagged a double. They extended their lead early in the 2nd through a short handed Finucci strike but Dundee pulled one back before the break. A crazy couple of minutes at the start of the third allowed Stars to level and the momentum was clearly with the visitors. Flyers steadied the ship and grabbed the game winner with seven minutes remaining through Pinkston.
