Got to agree with finchy, the announcer is cringeworthy and why must we have music at every dead puck!!!! I find we can't hear each other speak, just because they do it for free means they are any good at it.

Again Dave does this as a volunteer, give the man a break, great night with a well deserved shut out and people still find things to complain about. What ever happened to the Flyers Forum used to be a great place to come, now not so much, this is why I don't post much now

He needs to volunteer to take himself right back out the door

People quick to complain and moan but would they put themselves forward to do the job? I doubt very few if any would.

They may be volunteers and big well done to them for doing so but they also need to get things right as the match night atmosphere is a big part of the night. Take for example the Slapshot Challenge, do we really need to go through the same routine every week when a young kid comes on? That is, put them on the centre line, then ask the crowd to cheer for them to move forward etc...you can tell from the lack of clapping/cheering last night that people are getting fed up with it.

I said to my wife when leaving FIA tonight what negative can someone on the forum can find after such a great evening? That sums it up for me. You left the rink after a great performance and win and you were already thinking about finding something negative on the forum. It'll be no surprise to you that I agree with Finchy, It was a terrible mistake to make if you know anything about hockey. While i'm being negative and spoiling the forum, can I ask the DJ's to stop this pantomime every week with the slapshot challenge. Just take the kids up to the blue line, nobody even cheers now when you do the same routine very week.

What ever happened to the Flyers Forum used to be a great place to come, now not so much, this is why I don't post much now What happened was that some people became total cry babies when they read things they didn't like simply because they deemed them negative. The point is either valid or it's not. I don't mind if folk want to argue that they think mentioning a shut-out to 1500 folk is ok, but please spare me all this 'ooohh there always has to be a moan' nonsense. As a poster who generally tries to be positive and stick up for Flyers that gets my goat.

Thats the problem with the announcers/dj. They have experience in communicating and talking but they have very limited experience in knowing the game and the subtle nuances/superstitions in it.
90% of people going to Flyers games know the intricacies of the game, we thankfully don't need to be turned into the performing seals that Braehead, Sheffield, Belfast and Nottingham have
Previous announcers have known the game and translated the information across and knew when music should be played and when to let the crowd dictate the atmosphere.
Less is indeed more

Our last announcer had a pretty good wealth of hockey knowledge and that came across in what he would do night in night out. No one is ever going to live up to him, or our former DJ so we just have to accept it

Flyers are a professional organisation and the announcer needs to be professional in approach; volunteer or paid is irrelevant. If he's professional about it he'll learn about the way it is very quickly or realise he can't do it and move on. In my opinion the announcer needs to enhance the atmosphere not try to dictate it. I'm not sure the announcer I've heard this year has got the balance quite right for me. However, until they get the PA system sorted it'll just be an unintelligible noise on the "away side". The sound heads towards Rosslyn Street, bounces off every surface and arrives at your ears at different times. No matter what the announcer says or does the jumbled mess of sound that reaches that side simply kills any atmosphere. I still enjoy the games I get to see in the Ice Rink despite the PA system and the announcer's best efforts, the ancient and much-loved Ice Rink, the pot-holes in the car park, the inadequate toilets etc etc. There isn't a venue in the country with so much atmosphere. If the announcer and PA system are threatening the best atmosphere in the country then perhaps it's right to question it. You are the people that make the game experience at THE Ice Rink the best. Shut out was fantastic as was a 5-0 win, even though I was only reading the updates. From 250 miles away I was trying so hard not to think about a shut-out let alone say it . I didn't want it to be my fault.

Thats what you get when you push yourself forward, we now have an announcer who i heard butting into someone elses conversation at a Caps / Flyers game waiting at the door to get in that HE was the DJ at KIA when he wasn't at the time Wee Brian was and had been for years, funnily enough that changed very soon after..........Hmmm, The lady put him in his place and told him she knew he was the announcer but NOT the Dj and to mind his own business. Now we have his son interviewing his favourite /family sponsored player, his wife on Sky Sports EIHL show so i can see where real hockey fans get hacked off. In my opinion the DJ is in the same league as Geordie Monroe and i have made my opinions clear on him, before anybody goes on about moaning......... i pay my way and am entitled to my opinion and opinions are what forums are about.

I dont mind the DJ at all, only problem I have is the need to play crappy music from the minute play stops until the puck is dropped again.
This doesn't happen all the time but more often than not, all this does is actually prevent an atmosphere building in the crowd.
Do we need music at all I would ask ? You only need to go and experience the dreadful match night nonsense at Braehead to see where this eventually leads.

Just from reading this forum I know you (ronniemac) are probably one of the more intelligent hockey people on here, but I think it's unfair to suggest the guy and his family aren't real hockey fans. Unless of course you know they are involved at the Flyers for there own personal gain? If I am reading it wrong I appologise in advance.

We have gone from Craig to our new announcer its like going from a Fillet Steak to Corn Beef. One was excellent and knew what to say and what not to say, you knew what you were going to get. Our new guy you just dont know what is going to come out his mouth weve had twitter plugs, weve had advertising (apart from match night sponsor), weve had him starting hoggi chants after its been around the rink and now this shutout nonsense.
Never mention a shutout after 2 periods it is an unspoke rule. I agree wholeheartedly with Finchy. At the end of the day we need to make match night a great experience for all hockey and non-hockey fans. Our match night experience is seriously lacking at the minute and needs to be looked at.
