Details here www.braeheadclan.com/news-s12153So one of the worst kept secrets in hockey is finally out. As a Flyers fan I like this announcement as I don't think it takes Braehead forward any. Finnerty will have had a bigger budget at Sheffield than he will ever get at Clan and if he couldn't do anything with that budget with Steelers I don't see him doing anything at Braehead. His signing might change the dynamics of our conference from one that saw decent tactical hockey and it may now go to one with grinders and see him bring in players with little flair and other teams may do the same just to match his style. I know the press release says he will bring grit and skill to his team but last years Steelers had more of the former than the latter

Ive said it before what are Clan doing you go from Gardiner with all that experience to Finnerty who had two awful years at Sheffield.
Finnerty will sign his mates up for Clan like Legue and Hewitt who are pretty poor players. I mean Leggy needs a top player alongside him like a Talbot to shine he can't do it on his own. It will be interesting to see what happens with Goldie, Galbraith and Krestanovich going into next year.

I certainly don't see Galbraith still being there, he definitely isn't the type of player that Finnerty seems to like. I would also say that the other two aren't typical Finnerty players either but he was certainly after Krestanovich when he walked out on Clan in January. It will be interesting to see whether Krestanovich wants pastures new and his motivation is to play for a big budget team or whether he really wanted to play for Finnerty. Can Goldie and Legue be on the same Finnerty team or will that be one really skilled player too many for him?

I think Goldie is a much better player than Legue if I am being honest. He is more direct, carries more speed through the neutral zone and will rack up more goals than Legue. The one advantage Legue has over him is he can quarterback a powerplay and loves to set up for the big one timer on the PP.
Yeah I think Finnerty needs to get a bit of an identity to the way he plays. I mean we all talk about his hard hitting style of play but the Giants were way more physical than the Steelers as were Coventry. It will be interesting to see what happens I certainly see him re-signing Haywood and Birnstill but otherwise I'm not so sure who he will look to re-sign.
For the steelers the only players I really liked were, Fata, Goertzen, Michel and Ferguson. I really can't think of anyone else who particularly stood out.

Steelers top point scorer last season and 429 points in 341 games for them. I hope Danny and Todd can find a couple of 'poor' players like him this off season.

I think he has been made to look good in the past when he had the great partnership with Talbot but since then I think he has struggled. Finner brought Ramsay into play with him two seasons back who I think made him look better than his stats suggest and this year he had a poor season in my opinion. Ok he was still over a point per game but I didn't think he showed up in the big games.
Poor is an overstatement but I still think he is a pretty average player. If it were Legue or Casey I would choose Casey every time

Guess he's just been lucky to play with some really talented guys ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) I think most people would struggle to think of another guy in the league they'd take over Casey.

Ha ha ha, you guys better get worried as any easy ride you thought you had playing Clan has well and truly gone.
A grittier in your face type of Clan is just what Clan need - so look out and keep yer heid's up ;-)
Oh and all have a good summer you guys and let battles commence in September :-)
I think all the teams will be stronger, which is great for the conference and the league.

Budget alone should ensure the Clan are top dogs in our conference. Having said that, I'd be more concerened if you'd kept a top class coach like Gardner instead of a signing a Steelers flop.

Will Clan's new home top have blue collars? ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) Load of rubbish this 'grittier'=better. Ask Coventry. Finnerty was a failure at Sheffield don't forget. Why should him coming make you automatically think that things will improve? Will Clan's fanbase really rather see toughness over flair? To be honest, Clan had the edge on us last season and it didn't bother me when you look at the comparative spending. It wouldn't bother me next season either if we continue to progress.

You could also ask Sheffield if grittier=better. Steelers were supposed to be loaded with gritty players on the team with the supposed biggest budget in the league last season and where did that get them? We have seen time and time again at Kirkcaldy that speed and skill beat supposed grit. We will continue to see it. It may not really bother Flyers fans considering Clans compartitive spending but tell you something they seem to be really bothered by us

I wouldn't worry about grit expect to see a much grittier flyers team when Danny and Todd talked on the podcast they talked about how they should of played more physically which is something we as fans have been crying out for. Guys like Tyler Michel are the type of player I would like to see in a Flyers jersey along with skill guys like Bobby and Casey.
I think if we can put a better product on the ice this year we will win the conference and seriously challenge for a top 4 spot.
