I won't be back this season. Not because I want Todd or Danny to lose there jobs. It's how bored I am watching the Hockey. I never thought for one second I would say that. I loved watching the flyers, I have for 20 odd years.
I had a ticket for last night, I ended up sitting in and watching the Sheffield Nottingham webcast instead and no regrets there.
I just want to be entertained, if we lose but its a cracker of a game, edge of the seat stuff I don't mind.
This is what a fifer would say DUG S.....

In no way was I condoning damage to anyone's vehicle for any reason, and never would. To suggest that this will incur further bad refereeing in future is also a disgrace, we must not lose sight of the fact that our players were at risk of severe physical injury last night and the official's that were tasked to referee the game made it abundantly clear that they had neither the will nor the inclination to offer any protection to Fife Flyers players by applying the rules of the game to the Cardiff team, if players think that we will be targeted by poor refereeing decisions in the future in light of this incident, they might find themselves not wanting to play in an unsafe environment, where their personal safety is not held to be of any value by the officials in hockey games. Hockey at it's best is a fast, physical and entertaining sport played by athlete's who work hard to be in peak physical condition to earn their salary, this depends on both teams playing by the rules and by those entrusted with officiating at these games to apply them fairly and evenly for the benefit of all participants, this was clearly not the case last night and has been suggested in a previous post, this might also not be the case in future games. Can someone from the Elite league not address the situation of the standard of officials provided to control the games played under their auspices. We were assured that over the summer, all officials had been subject to rigorous training and fitness coaching to enable them to keep up with the evolving rules of the game and the speed at which it is played. We have had the same officials at more than 50% of our games this season, how can that possibly be fair in any sport. As things stand we seem to be unable to be given a chance at this level of hockey, largely due to underperforming officials, so no matter what playing staff we have we will not be allowed to succeed. Supporter numbers are already declining and on last night's performance this only going to get worse, and another loss tonight will see us once again struggling to stay in touch with the other teams. We are too good for any other leagues that we could participate in, even if we wanted too, and are clearly not wanted in the Elite League as on ice and DOPS decisions always seem to be enforced more severely against us than other teams, so a lot of difficult decisions ahead, but lets not forget this topic was about changing our coaching staff, not about officials vehicles. COYF. Cardiff played physical last night and on the edge of ilegally but they were by no means dirty, I think a lot of our fans are looking for excuses, we could not handle there physical style, they owned us basically, we were hammered every time we went in there zone and a few times in our own as well, it's a hockey tactic to gain advantage and we could not handle it. I don't really have many issues with there style or how it was refereed to be honest. If we can't handle it we should not be on the ice.

I would love to get DOPS take on last night's game from the point of view of player safety.
Cardiff were not playing on "the edge of legally", the rules do not allow three players to hold an opponent whilst working him over, the rules do not allow persistent checking from behind into the boards, the rules do not allow hitting a man on the ice with your stick while an official stands and watches, the rules do not allow the repeated punching of an opponent on the ice and so on. Last night was not anywhere near the edge of legally, that train had long gone.
I have watched many hard hockey games and we have won some and lost most, but a fair hard game is great to watch, last night was the worst example of Goon Hockey I have seen in a long time, at times it was a bit like a rerun of Slap Shot, except the violence was real and not staged.
The referees had no control of that game from the first minute to the last, they were intimidated too by the way Cardiff were playing.
If that is good hockey then I for one will not be coming to too many games in the future, that was a disgrace and people should stop being nice about it, it was not nice, it was dangerous, do we know how many injuries our players suffered last night and what frame of mind that game left them in. I would certainly not be too happy at a son of mine being subjected to that level of intimidation and raw aggression as shown last night. It is a sport, not legalised warfare.

You must have watched a different game from me. Nothing jumped out as being especially dirty from Cardiff. A few digs with sticks and some good hard hitting from both sides other than that I saw nothing that reflects your post. Our guys had no injuries or had their minds broken from playing a game of hockey. A huge part of hockey is intimidation and controlled aggression it's s physical sport. If our team played like Cardiff I for one would be very happy.

I agree with Waterboy, nothing over the top from Cardiff, they like all the other teams in the league are just more physical than us, we better get used to it as this will be the tactics of coaches up and down the country when they come up against us as it is well known that we are a bit lightweight. We have some good individual players but the balance of the team is all wrong, bad enough no enforcer on D, add to that no power forward to drive the net / make himself big in front of the goalie, occupying a few D men, it is gonna be a struggle.

Looks like you won't be at many games then because a blind man could see that this is the tactics needed to beat the Flyers this season. And I think most teams will be playing this way against Fife. There was nothing over the top last night from what I could see. Just hard nosed (niggly at times) hockey. It's probably too late to get a new coach in. I know I said in the thread to get rid of Todd and Danny but perhaps just get rid of Todd and give Danny a chance this season. Maybe move him as full time coach and bring in a replacement player?

I can't see it happening but I definitely think it's time for a coaching change. Todd has been a wonderful servant to the club but perhaps he is more suited to a 'Head of Hockey Operations' role within the club, similar to Thornton in Belfast, rather than a coaching job.
Unfortunately we're probably limited by what managers we could bring in, as Jambitink said above. Not only is the timing a bit problematic, would Fife be able to tempt an experienced manager when the owners aren't willing to pay more than a few pounds for their Brits? That would probably put a few managers off of joining us.
And sadly we can rest assured that we'll more than likely win the next couple of games against the Stars & the Caps and the cracks will be painted over by the club - Todd & Danny will remain in charge and the complaints from the majority of fans will disappear until we start losing again...

I'll go next Saturday. If we lose to Dundee again that's me for the season. Season ticket or not. I'll wait for Dutes to go. Don't get me wrong, man's a legend, and I would love for him to contiue to be a part of the club. Just please God not as head coach. It's the same brutal c*** constantly. Same bull**** excuses every interview. Tactically inept as coach, probably still a class player. Don't think changes in the players are what's needed. Brown maybe, Haines if he keeps going like this, and maybe Fox? And obviously Horne, Wilson and Scoony. 100% need an enforcer, this "team toughness" that Todd spoke about is something I've yet to see. Other than Paquet having a decent go, Rioux getting battered and Muir/Danny's usuals. A Fulton/Ned, and a Fitzgerald/Hendrix would go down a treat in this team aswell. But lets be honest, what calibre of coach are we really hoping to bring to our auld barn. Considering our Brit wage budget is probably no less than the cost of a chippy from across the road. Hopefully, as crowds continue to fall, Tam Muir gets the message and does the deed, sooner, rather than later. We were playing well to the team learnt the 'systems'. Onwards and upwards (can't go much lower really) I guess. Time'll tell..

It's a real pity that our posts are again just more or less a repeat of last season and previous seasons. The players have changed but the performance hasn't. Listen again to both Todd and Danny's interviews after last nights game and it's obvious they don't see it or at least they won't admit it. The players are pretty good, although a bit of a more physical precence is required, but they must know from their past experiences that our systems are wrong, so is it a case of just doing what you are told and get into the mould and your safe for the season. Tom Muir stands in section A each week watching the games, or maybe just counting filled seats, so he sees exactly what we're all seeing, so he's either passionate about the hockey or just purely interested in the takings. Don't know if Mr Muir reads or is told about any of the comments on here, but it is time he took charge of the situation, otherwise non action or continued silence will give us all the answers we need.

I thought that Cardiff played great last night. Hard, physical, at times maybe just a bit over the top but nothing noteworthy in my book. They had us in their pockets for most of the game, We did nothing against them, although we outshot them by a bit I could have saved most of our shots.
They weren't dirty but they played with an intensity that is alien to us. We need to buck up our ideas or this is going to be our worst season so far.

No issues with Cardiff play at all, a wee bit hand bags at times yes, but nothing that looked dangerous in any way at all.
We lost, end off

I have to agree. It is a far cry from coaching in the BNL to coaching in the Elite league and I'm afraid it's a step too far for Todd. As for Danny I can't deny that he gives 100% however sometimes it feels like we are an import short ( no pun intended ) Got to take issue with this post, particularly after watching Saturdays performance against Cardiff. Not only did Danny get the MOM award he also was the only player to finish his checks consistently and wasn’t afraid to get in the face of Salters and Hendrix. Also I think it’s a sad reflection on our players that Danny seemed to be the player with the most energy on Saturday night. The rest looked a bit jaded from the game on Friday night (Fox, Caig and Lee in particular). Danny’s stats from last year don’t make great reading, but you have to remember he was stuck on the “hockey for all” line with Jamie and Gunny for two years. Danny is by far not our worst import this year.
