Sounds like Todd's back-tracking on the "11th import" situation and Casey won't be back for another week or two. And then he makes a statement about us never having iced with 10 imports but he's happy with what we have if we can remain healthy.
Hello, we've been weakened with injuries and suspensions and we're happy to rest on our laurels. Todd's a great servant for the club but he seems far too happy to accept the status quo and being under-resourced every season.

That's exactly how it sounds! He makes it sound as if when Haines is back there won't be anymore injuries or suspensions. Ridiculous.

What makes it worse long-term is that players like Haines, Caister, the Pittons, Hogg and Keller are unlikely to come back to a club with limited ambition. especially if better offers are on the table. So back to building from scratch in the summer....

Nice to know we might get someone in if we're making a run at it!
You couldn't make this up.

What do you want us to make a run at?
A run for the league title? Not a chance. Only three teams will ever be in with a shot of being champions and those are the arena teams.
A run at the challenge cup? I belive we have achieved what we set out to do at the start of the season, get ourselves an extra games revenue. Ask Paul Ragan the owner of Cardiff if this was in his plans and he would definately say yes.
A run at the conference title? Not beyond our means. Even with 9 imports we haven't ruled ourselves out of that. When Casey comes back we will have lots of options.
A run at the play offs? Well traditionally if it looks like Flyers will make the play offs we tend to bring in an extra body precisely for this. Would I like this to happen this year, absolutely. Will it happen. not my call. It does look like Dutes would like the extra body as well but from a playing perspective I want to see what we are like as a team with 10 imports first and if it was my money that is what I would be saying to Todd as well. We have been competitive nearly every game and I would be asking Todd seeing that is the case and its been happening with 9 imports why put the extra expense up to 11 imports when we don't even know what kind of team we will be with 10 imports.
What frustrates me is that Dutes and Danny don't seem to be able to get the team up for two games in a row, or really up for games on the road irrespective of where those games are.
It appears as if they have said that we will concentrate on making Kirkcaldy a fortress again and make teams work really hard to get anything from here and see what we can pick up on the road. To me thats the unacceptable ascpect of this season. We have shown that we can compete with everybody in our barn but that belief/confidence seems to evaporate when we get into another teams building.
Yes I know road games are different from home games but you have seen all of our conference rivals go away from home and have some unlikely success especially against the other conference but none for us when we clearly have the ability and quality to do so.
I don't see this club as lacking in ambition. If you had asked the directors and Dutes what they would consider as a successful season at the start of the season I would bet they would all say be competitive every night, get to the challenge cup quarter finals, challenge for our conference and qualify for the play offs.
Are any of those not going to be achieved? I really don't think so

You say you want to see what they're like with 10, ill tell you right now even when Haines is fit they won't play the majority of the remaining games with 10, it doesn't happen. Of course it's a lack of ambition, if they had done what most will assume they can afford and got the 11 in from the start in my opinion they would be sitting mid table and more than likely top of the conference. But we'll never know. End of the day of course they've improved but it could have been a lot better by just commiting to it a little bit more. That's when fans get angry about getting taken for a run.

Our next 4 games could see us only a point away from Coventry in 5th, if our results and theirs go our way, with a game on hand on them and still to play them in Kirkcaldy. That to me sounds like mid table.
Our 4 games are
Hull(A) Hull(H) Edinburgh(H) Dundee(A)
All winnable games for us even with 9 imports.
Coventrys next 4 are
Nottingham (A) Cardiff(A) Nottingham(H) Hull(A)
Considering the horrors Blaze are going through just now, the only team they have beat in their last 6 games is Hull after a shootout, how many of those games are realistically winnable for them. For me its the last one.
Those scenarios happen Blaze have 39pts from 39 games, Flyers have 38pts from 38 games.
Will the scenarios happen, who knows. Can they happen, absolutely and we should be looking to win those next 4 games whether we have Casey or not as its well within us

And what about the teams in-between us? Dundee and Braehead are siting in better positions than us.

Compare this season to last - we are a much better hockey club.
If we make the play-offs, win plenty games at home and finish near the top of our conference, I'd say it was a successful season.
Then we can build on the improvement of this year again next season, such as re-signing our current imports and looking to strengthen too as well as continuing to improve the off-ice facilities. It's a sensible strategy if this is what the directors are going for rather than just being cheap. I guess only time will tell...
