It will take years, i've went to Kestrels games and there is no one there capable of stepping up at the moment, the EIHL is suited to big body players and the best young guys have reached their growth potential and appear too small for the more physical league, just my opinion though so in effect no cavalry on the distant horizon.

1984 / 85 since the biggest National prize, i do not think Flyers ambitions should be anything less than trying to emulate that and not being a large arena team should'nt be the deciding factor. Flyers imports today with maybe the exception of Todd & Danny would get another club in Britain no problem, getting in 3 younger guys in the same mold as the likes of Haines / Keller and the rest would have the team competing for honours SURELY.

In 1984/85 guys mostly played for their local teams and the teams only had 3 imports though. Also - we had some of the biggest crowds in the league so we were in essence one of the arena teams of the Heineken League. We should always strive to compete to the best of our ability but I don't see how we can eclipse Sheffield, Nottingham or Belfast over the course of the season under the current set-up. I think the team are doing pretty well this year when you look at it like that. More depth to cover injuries and suspension would be great, but I don't think it'll suddenly have us challenging for the league title.

At the end of the day most teams have 3 or 4 import D and the other 8 or 9 make up 3 forward lines, how many teams do you see playing 4 line hockey, most Brits are used as a checking line and if they score ................ great. It only took 1 man to start throwing the body at Dundee to turn the game around and Brits can do that if they perform as well but the major part of any game is decided by imports and whatever the number required then Fife should match that. We all would like to see a sensible number of imports being implimented , probably 6 - 8 would be ideal but thats down to the owners to decide.

Why is it crazy though? I really don't get this ah we should play Brits cause their British mentality! If they deserve to play they play, if they aren't good enough the shouldn't! Just look at the couple of Brits on our team who are simply out of their depth! We need rid of the certain British dead wood next season and start with 10 imports and Danny on the bench! That's how I would go!

hows it crazy? Like the guy above said if there's Brits around that are good enough they'll get a game no matter what the import limit is. There's been hockey around in the uk forever and there's just not the pool of top class Brits around that could allow a fully pro league with a smaller number of imports. And for me I want to see the best I can for my money and if that means 2 Brits or 13 Brits per team I genuinely couldn't care.

If we cannot get an 11th import you can only assume it financial ( worrying that its only 3 Months salary + expenses ) are we that close to the breadline - Teams with less crowds manage it - Our Brits will never be replaced as we cannot afford the better quality players and you need them to make up a team. Lets face it we cannot even recruit a bench Coach Would be happy if Directors just came out and said its a 3 - 5 year project and we will retain a core of the imports going forward starting with 10 next year going to 11 at xmas - A road map that isnt foggy with lots of de tours like it is now.

apple you cannot assume every import costs the same or the standard of living that clubs give the imports is the same etc. I can tell you 1 thing JD was cut from the stars because they wouldnt pay his wages and he is on our wage bill and Horne is an ex-GB D man who will probably be on a bigger wage than our other local players.
I think the directors probably could invest in another import but maybe they don't have accomodation set up yet for an 11th. Or perhaps, they want to give the British players a chance which as a club is our philosophy and always has been.

Yes Flyer007 - don't need to know what wages there on just a clear path forward ie we cannot afford one or its quality over quantity - no accommodation etc

That doesn't mean we gave him the same wage he was on up there. Where was his power to demand a high wage once the Stars dropped out the equation? He wanted to stay local, has a full time job that makes it difficult for him to train during the day. Flyers were a perfect fit and would know there was nobody else competing for his services. I'm all for the British guys getting a chance, however, the truth is we don't have enough of the required standard to be handicapping ourselves.

Quality over quantity is fine if a) you have the depth in Brits and b) we stay healthy and stay suspension free. None of those apply to us so it makes no sense. Other than its the typical Flyers way. Start short, get someone in at Xmas and then someone else January. With that attitude, we'll always be fighting for scraps at the bottom of the table.

One Brit that we spoke to about coming here is getting around £1500 a week from his current arena team apparently. A good authority that I have no reason to doubt his word as he has proved to be right in the past.
How can Flyers even begin to think about competing with that.
If a team is silly enough to be throwing that kind of money at you, you would be stupid to say no to it

I doubt even the top import in the league is getting much more than half that amount! Complete nonsense.
