One thing I have realised since my move from Dundee Stars is that Flyers' fans are really special people.
Let me give you my thoughts, whether you like them or loathe them.
We are in our SECOND season in the Elite League and the strides we have made since this time last season have been immense. We are still within touching distance of winning our conference, have great imports who give their all for the club and our Britpack have improved no end.
Okay we haven't run with a full import quota since day one but what we have done is nothing short of remarkable. Edinburgh have been in the EIHL for more years than we have but I feel we have progressed quicker than they have.
Fife have been used to success at every level they have played at but the EIHL is a step further than we have made in our 75 years. Believe me no-one at the club is more determined to make Flyers successful than our owner and the work he does goes unseen by many of the support.
We are still learning and we will get there. We want it now but remember Flyers have been around longer than every team in the UK and yet we still play at the highest level, attract an audience of loyal fans, both home and away. What we are building is something special and I am convinced that we WILL be a top four club sooner rather than later.
I've seen fans getting frustrated and posting what they think is our income and expenditure and believe me it's way off the mark. I have first hand experience in what it takes to run an EIHL club and please believe me, it's a huge undertaking.
We have been accused of stringing the fans along, not signing imports but I know now that the coach and his assistant have been unbelievably unlucky in their recruitment aims.
I have personally been disappointed with my own performance this year as I have made mistakes and hopefully have learned from them. I am now focussed on what lies ahead and have already made progress for next season.
Steven, the webmaster, has taken stick in the past but that guy lives and breathes Flyers. Ross is amazing and his enthusiasm is second to none. The three of us are a team, a team who now meet weekly to ensure that Fife Flyers are promoted throughout the Kingdom. Only last weekend Ross managed to get the Flyers v Capitals game mentioned on 'Off the Ball' on BBC Radio Scotland.
We are learning, the directors are committed, despite what many think, and we will succeed. All I ask is you give your continued support and we WILL get there. We haven't been around for 75 years without doing something right.
I know not everyone will agree with what I have said but all I can promise is that we will ALL be working our butts off to get this to where you want it to be.
Tom Muir does so much more than he gets credit for - why do you think we have had so many players return year after year. To quote an old cliche - ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DAY

To quote an old cliche - ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DAY I just think if the club was more transparent, things would be a lot better. I don't mean you have to publish accounts, but we have no idea how long Haines is out for, we don't know his injury. If we were just updated we wouldn't 'make things up' Just give us some information and it'll calm everyone down. Can you understand the frustration for the fans when they see how tight the Conference is and if we could just get even one more import, it would make such a difference? If it was explained to us why we can't get one, then it would shut a lot of us up.

Jonathan I can't disagree with that but that side of the club will take time too. I get frustrated but we are doing our best to improve that

I dont know what my thoughts are on Alans post, it says a lot but says nothing.
Long term success is of course what we all want and I agree that we will eventually get there. I also agree that the directors take far too much flak and are given little credit or no credit for their stewardship of the club.
Immediate success, and by that lets assume success this season, is the issue that is causing a great deal of frustration for many of us special people.
One more good import on the ice would have made, perhaps, a huge difference to our season to date, I think the Gardiner conference has been there for the taking. We could have had our immediate success this season. We may still get it but its getting tougher and tougher for the fit and healthy players we have.

Again I can't disagree but it's not the coach or the owner's fault what has happened in the last couple of weeks I wrote last week that I was in a blackout regards information but believe me I now know how much hard work is going on to bring someone in in the last few weeks. I know that the communications with the fans can be improved but I assure you that will happen.

Agree absolutely 100% there Allan. Jonathan- sorry going to have to disagree with you there! as I think as a club we work exceptionally hard to keep fans up to date with everything that goes on at the club. There can't be another club in the league that keeps fans as up-to-date with what is going on as we do at the Fife Flyers. The constant news on website, Flyers TV pre and post match interviews, Steven's midweek interview for website, the very fact there is a PR section on this forum that I contribute stuff to several times a week, the fact you have me and Allan on here to answer questions from people, and even things like the recent podcast that we launched is another example of the many media platforms we have at the club to give fans an insight into the club and to hear whats going on. not to mention the excellent coverage of the Flyers from the Fife Free Press and also Kingdom FM. With Casey Haines, the guy has been out and every week Todd and Danny hope he's ready to come back but it's each week as it comes. There isn't anything we or they could be more transparent about. And with an import, the club (as has been said on Flyers TV) is working to identify the right player to bring in but there have been various obstacles in the way as Todd said on Flyers TV.

Can i ask Alan what makes the flyers fans special, sounds to me as PR at its best. They may have more fans or less fans than other clubs.. but they are no better or worse.. I wonder if you would have said these words if you were still employed at Dundee..sounds hollow.. only my opinion , am sure other will be delighted with your views

Ross, you can disagree as much as you want, but I am trying to let you into the psyche of a fan like me. No one has come out and told us what is wrong with Haines. It is speculation after speculation. Also, at the time of the injury, a ball park figure could have been given of how long it will take for him to get back to health. No one tells us why it takes so long to get someone in when other clubs seem to take a day or two. This leads to total speculation from the fans. There is Flyers TV and podcasts and the like. They are great to have, but they're not explain to the fans what we (or some of us) desperately want to know.

I have never seen fans get behind their team as Flyers' fans do. Speaking to Rick Strachan, David Simms and Paul Thompson, they all agree it is a special place to visit. At the recent Challenge Cup tie against Nottingham at the end of the game one of the Panthers' players was coming off ice and said, 'What an amazing atmosphere'. Listen ther are some who do my head in but for every one of them there are 100 who are amazing. I will admit that in the last month or so I had the chance to rejoin Stars but I am still here. I am committed to the cause. I know some people will give me stick but I will prove to you all that I am serious

Now I just need to know if I'm in the 1 camp, or the 100 camp Allan ;-) Look, we are all Flyers' fans. In two years time there won't be a split because we WILL be a force. You are a FAN, you care about the club and I will never deny anyone an opinion. It is because of the fans' voices we learn
